Earl Strikland

He is a Pearl

You dont have to like him ,but, You have to love him. He is one of the best ever. There is no doughting that. If we were all the same it would be a very boring world. His nateral talent is second to none. His thirst for exalence has driven hin over the edge at times but I believe in him and I truly believe he will be on top again.

Here is what I know from the tournaments... Pool is the only game where you can pay your 8bucks for general admission as a spectator and then proceed to the tournament floor and talk crap to the players from the stands and not be tossed out on your ear.....

At the Open in past years I have watched as several fans have heckled from their seats. In one match no less than 3 guys were on Earl in the stands. Jay walks over and tells Earl to cool it and no more than gets out of ear shot when one of these nits pipes up with "Yeah quit your *****ing and shoot pool" or something equally intelligent... Earl tells him to shut up and the guy starts to mouth off again when a very LARGE Earl supporter 3 rows back yells down and explains to the nit that he will happily come down and shut the guy up..... AT which point I think needling Earl lost it's fun.. because the guy shut up....

If this were to happen at a golf tournament the marshals would have drug the guys out of the stands and tossed them into the streets.. The issue with pool tournaments like the Open is that you have Jay and Ken running around trying to do everything at once so they can't be on bouncer duty as well... I bet Jay has tossed a few over the years.....

If I were Earl I would find that large fan of his and pay him to take out the trash so to speak... An $8 spectator pass doesn't come with the right to interfere with players and possible impact their matches and livelihood.

What's to like about him? He used to be able to play pool. He's pretty much the "Clowned Prince of Pool". He throw's a big time red-ass when things don't go his way.

I certainly wouldn't consider him a pool idol. There are PLENTY of world class pool players that play with respect to choose from.

He has been good for TV ratings. But if I could choose a team of world class pool players. He wouldn't be on it...too much drama... Abba..dancing Queen.

If they ever made a game where it was all offense no playing safe Earl would take down everyone. The best shot maker the game has ever had.
Btw what he do to you,if you ever got a chance to talk with him you wouldnt even of made this post.

Homo homo homo homo homo

whoever things earl is bad at pool and what not. put weights on your wrists and arms and go play. see how long you can and if you beat anyone.. that all i have to say o ya dont forget your headphones hahaha

You should have asked me before you gambled against Earl. How much did you lose?

Earl wasn't so bad when he was winning. Now he is a has-been without a job. So I predict crime and jail time.

a has-been that could beat most of us blind folded and with a cue sticking out his A**. I would say he is more like a hall of famer.

Seems you were without a job and broke...did you turn to crime, and go to jail?

Ya, a lot of us knew him personally for years too. I remember in the mid 80s I was without a job. Just got out of the Army. Lost a few bucks to him. I quit since I was broke. We became friends. I even let him stay over a few times after late night matches and no where to stay.

Things took a turn for the worse when I finally started working again and I bet on him in an easy match. He dumped and split the money with his opponent. I didn't realize it at the time but all the other regulars explained it to me a few days later.

I avoided Johnny after that. I didn't hate him, but I no longer trusted him. I don't care what your financial situation is, you don't dump on your friends. Once you violate your friend's trust, it's over.

When he died I didn't feel bad at all. I felt like it was a relief, knowing he would never dump on anyone again.

A relief that he died? Wow...nice guy you are.

He used to be able to play pool? What's to like about him? Apparently you didn't see the gear he caught on the ten footer when he ran over Shane making the table look like a bar box.

I have never been so entertained by pool skills alone. Never seen that much talent displayed. That's what I like about him.

This. Nothing else needs to be said.

Kind of like a dancing troll who creates a brand-new thread every morning on topics aimed to irritate. I know what you mean.

I say this because:

A) You've started about 20 threads this month alone.

B) You never really reply to any of your threads. For the most part your only post is the first post and bam, you're gone from the thread, only to start another shortly thereafter.

Congratulations on being the inaugural member to my ignore list!

Earl is one of the best ever. Yes he does act a little strange at times. Now with that being said I saw him put on an exhibition here in Denver and he was funny and entertaining. My being from the Northeast I played and know a lot of players that Earl knows and I got to talk with him for about 10 minutes on people we both knew.He was just as normal as anyone and we had a nice conversation.

He's a real "role model" I guess ability to play pool trumps all?

Efren is Older and BETTER than him...and he always plays with respect.

Who's gonna jump on the "excuse" carousel?

No one on earth disputes the fact that Efren is a great role model and great player.

If you don't like Earl or what he does, then why start a thread like this? You can just hate all by yourself. You might get some action by starting a HateEarl Blog or something. There are so many people that are like you about Earl and all you have to do is search his name to find out what they have said in the past.

I don't like Earl's antics but I love to watch him play. It is like watching a great car or motorcycle race. You never know when you will see a fantastic crash.

In Earl's case, you will see a great player no mater what his state of mind.

Tap, tap, tap!!

Charles and Earl are a lot alike. Both wear their emotions on their sleeves. Aren't afraid to talk about any subject on the face of the earth, and will tell you exactly how they feel, and where they stand on it. And if you don't like it....(well, you know what you can do)

Charles has slammed people physically, and verbally, and made quite a handsome living doing it. (even throwing a guy thru a plate glass window, then saying his biggest regret was, "it was on the 1st floor")

Earl's not so bad.
