Earl "The Pearl"...need I say more?

Seen it before...loved it again!

All that talent, all that fire....and kudos to him and Peach for shaking hands afterwards. Boxers try to kill each other in the fight, but they hug afterwards. Good to see some of that in pooldom.

I don't think there has ever been a player more determined to want the game to be played at a seriously high level then Earl. I can't find the old interview with Earl explaining his philosophy of pool, but after hearing that I understood why he does some of the things he does. He just wants our great sport to be respected, and when it's not he can go a little nutty.

theres worse things for pool IMO....

i love the way he despises the jump cue so much but accepts he has to use it for the mosconi. so he picks it up, makes an AMAZING shot with it, then throws it across the floor lol in a fit of disgust.

i agree. and that's one of the main things i admire about him and why he will always have my utmost respect.

a true legend.

He throws the cue then gets pissy when someone in the crowd heckles him. Well what do you expect Earl???

I dont like him or like him representing the U.S., but we all have our opinions on him.:D

I also believe he has the highest 9ball gear in the world-when he catches it nobody I have ever seen plays 9B like him.

No doubt, I think if he wouldnt have let everything get to him that he would have doubled his tournament wins IMO. But here lately its always someone elses fault instead of his own. Just play and wear earplugs Earl:D

Ain't that the truth.....

for me holding my highest gear only lasts for an hour once in a while(and thats been along time :( ), it just happens to me for no real reason, i cant dig down deep and find it, thus a average player.

Earl can hold it longer and find it often-but I believes it takes alot out of him mentally(i'm not picking at him, I like him and respect him) it just looks like it takes alot of him(energy and focus) to carry that gear, in sharp contrast SVB or Buddy Hall just seem to awalys play solid, not emotional streaks.

That what makes Earl fun to watch and I love it when he catches that gear, it hurts me to see him melt down,

Ronnie O'Sullivan the snooker player is the same way, he has the highest gear in that game. WOW.

I just started watching Snooker and learning the game (would like to play one day, but not many Snooker tables around here) but man is Ronnie one helluva player.

?????????????

Earl you either love him or hate him but how would you like to have a stroke like that? I've always been an Earl fan.

Earl doesn't need more equipment- he needs to get back to his roots, before elbow pads and funky goggles and just play. He's excellent at that, and a prime rep for the US. The world slanders Americans enough as it is, might as well stick it to 'em!

Earl rules the world. I agree that he's probably the best 9 ball player ever. He lost that 120 pt match to Efren but it was his "Earlness" that lost it for him. If anyone watched that match in it's entirety you can plainly see that on that third day his mind wasn't in it. If he'd kept the pace he had on day 2 Efren wouldn't have been anywhere near him.........as evident after day 2 when Efren was down by something like 30 games.

I met Earl a few years back and he is one of the nicest people you could talk to. He heard we were from Japan and he sat with us for close to a half hour just talking away.

Earl clearly has life issues going on in his head and he cant block them out when he plays, imo. Just doesnt have the mental toughness to grind out wins at that high level of play now. Time for him to involve himself in maybe other areas of the industry and relax on playing tournys as much. This late in his career he should have stayed with cutec and build a nest egg fot himself.

People that are the best on earth at what they do rarely care for social graces. In my mind, I see Earl like Isaac Newton. They are both wired slightly differently, but that is why they are the best at what they do. To have perfect focus at any one thing does not allow you, in that moment, to care how you act.

There is simply no one I would rather watch play pool than Earl.

His high gear is as strong as ever. However, his 'average gear' or whatever maybe isn't as strong as it once used to be. Maybe that's partly due to the fact that competition is fierce nowdays, much tougher than back in the 80's.
