Earl's new cue

I'm thinking in a long race that the line will somewhere about 3:2, SVB favored. I don't think a lot of people believe Earl is "back" just yet. If the line is @ 3:2, I'd have to go with Earl.

Where do you see the line shaking out?

That pic was from this years US Open. Earl was talking to Shane and saying how they never seem to play each other. There was some friendly needling going on. Shane didn't say much, he just replied to Earl's comments with a friendly smirk and a "bring it" look, lol. It seemed evident to me Earl has a lot of respect for Shane and Shane's game. And that they get along well.

I hope this match comes off, and goes deep and tight. It could be a monster, quite possibly the match of the year, if not years!

bet

if they play race to 100 10 ball u got 3/2

Today's Earl gives that Earl in his heyday the 6.

With all due respect...NOBODY, past or present, could give Earl in his prime the 6. It's like saying you could give Mosconi the first 100 balls... no one at any point in the history of pool could and come out winner.

hey mike I think donny would play with the rules you stipulated if shane doesnt

Nobody is barred. The game is in Youngstown Ohio at Ice House Billiards, race to 100. 10 ball, 10 goes last. Break from a 6 inch break box around the spot. Call shot with the option to let the player shoot again and if needed a 40 second shot clock. If the player is going over 40 seconds per ball then the shot clock will be enforced. A referee will rack the balls and enforce all the rules. I am taking all sign ups.

How do you like these rules. I guarantee that this will produce the best player. Not the guy that makes the 10 on the break or comes with 10 ball combination's, but the guy that can get out of the most racks because of great shooting.

It makes sense they get along. If there is a modern player that plays with a style like Earl had back in the day it is SVB. There are some differences but they both use extremely long strokes, spin the ball, they don't roll the ball much, have monster breaks, make ludicrous thin cut shots better then anyone else on the planet...

If Earl shoots like he can this match would be one explosive show of firepower.

I gotta side on Earls side with the break rule. SVB's break in 10-ball is an edge that really makes anyone else on the planet an underdog. Earl breaks well, but he will be getting a shot after his break about 40-50% of the time and SVB will be more in the range of 60-70%. That is a HUGE advantage to fade in a race to 100.

SVB played Donnie Mills i rack your own 9-ball, he is clearly the better player in 9-ball, but he almost lost that match because of the break. SVB should be pretty open to thinking about a break box and making the match more about shooting and less about a clear breaking advantage he has that WILL cause him to win if they both shot equal otherwise.

We can write off Ralph Souquet then.
Good luck Mike.

Maybe you can use the magic rack. that way theres no advantage. It gives a perfect rack every time.I would also like to see no extension cues or jump or break cues. I know Earl would agree with these except for maybe the magic rack. He has stated this before.

Earl is 5' 10 or 11". This cue I believe has to do with the size of his stroke. Players follow through are longer than others, and his is the longest I know of.

When I met Earl I told him he looked taller on TV and he told me he was 6' tall. I'm 5'10" and he was definitely taller than me by a couple of inches.

let's not get ahead of ourselves

This is very enjoyable to read, but I'm afraid that maybe nobody is really interested when it comes down to it. Mousie is really stoked about bringing a big time match into Icebreakers. He's already decided to install a curtain and remove 6 of the bar tables to make room for bleachers all around. I could talk to a local video production company about filming the match for DVD. I just don't want everybody to get all excited, then have nobody step up for real to play the guy.

Face, has anybody shown any serious interest in playing Earl?

Somebody plz follow through with this, and let's get going on bringing this match on home.

cues

What Earl plays with, who cares, remember this is the guy who played with a meucci and then a beginner cue tec. He will play with a broom stick if you pay him enough money to do so. What he plays with, means nothing to me. Efren plays with a cue he said sells for $12 in Manila.
