Eating before a match

Does eating before a match affect your game? I used to play tired and hungry when I was just a pup, but that was because I was broke most of the time and out later than my bedtime.

I have always read don't go into a match hungry or to full. I never play to good on Thanksgiving:wink:

Nothing real heavy and stay away from Buffets.... I cannot play well when I am full from eating.

Take a hint from Alex from his most recent match with SVB on TAR...he was "spent" at the beginning of the match and SVB took a big lead. Alex ate fruit while SVB went hungry. Alex took control, erased SVB's humongous lead, and was ready to play more whereas SVB was toast.

When I'm too full my game suffers physically; I can't execute so well. When I'm too hungry, my mental game suffers and I start making bad decisions at the table. I think I need a portable liquid food IV drip system I can plug into while I'm playing so I can stay in proper region of operation long enough to complete a tournament. :o

fruit, oatmeal, energy gels, ginkgo biloba (this helps me alot), B vitamins, multivitamins... anything that will make you feel lively and refreshed.

The worst thing you can do, IMO is play when you are hungry... so if you must eat unhealthy, at least eat... your brain uses A LOT of energy and you don't have any when you are hungry. Everyone is different, but there is no doubt that a healthy high-energy meal is going to help your mental state.

i can't say enough about taking ginkgo every day and drinking lots of water.

I always try to eat before a match. This is because I have generally low blood sugar so if I don't eat I can get the shakes which is not good in this game.

A classic tale: Blame it on the fruit.

eat light, eat right

Anytime I am serious about something, competition, all day testing, something else I have to be near my peak for a long period, I try to eat some slow release carb's an hour or so before I start and little else. If I can, I'll nibble or eat something light during the event but I would rather be a little hungry than full.

Hu

eating a heavy meal before or during your match will likely make you play bad. I am sluggish as anything after I eat, although eating about 30min to 1hr before the match seems to be ok, just keep it light.

I like to eat a light meal about an hour before playing and keep juice with me while playing

Don't ask me to explain this but I have played some of my very best pool when dog a$$ tired

I play well too when I'm tired, but I can't play long after I get tired if that makes sense. I believe it's just that your muscles, particularly the ones that twitch or tighten up when your adrenaline flows, are more relaxed.

I suggest eating bean burrito for extra "punch" during the match. :D

If i stuff my face, it's a food coma.
You really have to find out what approach is right for you as everyones system is different.

If i plan to play the following day in an all day weekend event, then usually, the night before, i have a big meal with a lot of carbs.

Then about 4 hours before game time, i usually have a decent breakfast.
(I usually employ this when i have an arranged game at night)

If the tournament is a marathon, and there are no established dinner breaks, i had a very good habit of bringing along MESO-TECH bars, and would nibble on half of one here or there in between matches.
That stuff works great, but i'm sure any energy paste or bar would do.

I usually go hungry and have chicken wings later on to fill the void.
Besides, one has to leave room for the golden libation.
