Ebay Bushka

I don't know, he claims that he's never even set the cue down in over 40 years:

"It went from "his" hands to mine and has never left!"

That's a mighty long time to be holding a cue in your hands. Seems kinda suspicious to me.

OK...I'll be the first to admit I probably coudn't tell the difference between a Balabushka original and one of those Dale Perry's when it comes to an EBay purchase...Hell...I may not know the difference when shooting with them...well, maybe not that bad...

With that said I've looked at the seller a bit closer...Here's my 25 cents worth.

Think4ever16, the seller in question does have 348 ratings, all 100%..however, he/she has only sold 12 items in the two years I've looked at the reviews for.

In those 12 items sold, 6 were sold to user ralbabsusn within 10 days...

Looking at his/her purchases, which constitute the remaining 336 reviews..I went back just over 2 years and 200 reviews and found that he/she purchased 30 items from user bluelakefox.

I'm all about repeat business...but when the most expensive item you've ever sold is a $100 "Astrologer Evangeline Adams' personal desk "Elephant"" and 15% of your "buyer" feedback and 50% of your "seller" feedback come from one person respectively...
Something isn't right...

Sorry...I got into investigative mode...bad habit....

Sounds like someone might be getting set up. If the buyer does get fu@3ed, I am offering my services as a "problem solver." Let me know if it's one of us getting fu#@ed.

Hey Kev, how's it going...

You mean people don't just plop down bids for 25K on cues these days?

What do you thing it means and do you have any idea what's going on?

Muffy's up to something, nice cue though

Its going great thanks. I don't know all there is to know about Balabushka values, but 25K for this cue seems high to me.

I think the seller has the cue.

I think the seller will deliver the cue if someone buys it and pays for it.

I think the seller faked the 25K bid to lend legitimacy to his asking price and "fool" a prospective buyer (just my thoughts I have no evidence other than I think the price is high).

I'm not a rich guy, but I know rich guys and I know guys that can and do spend lots of money on cues. The conception that people with money are stupid about the way the spend it is generally not true and I highly doubt that you can trick a guy into spending more than 25K on a cue (especially in today's economy). I'm also a little dubious that the guy that supposedly put the 25K bid in is not a member here. In my experience, most players for a cue like this are members of AZ.

Its a cool looking cue and way probably a Balabuska. What do you think of the price?

Thanks

Kevin

I would request a picture of the cue on top of todays newspaper.
Pictures can be apropriated.
Of course authenication and escrow would be a must.

All he has to do is get one or more of his friends with e-bay accounts to bid on it to give it legitimacy.

I don't think you can make a purchase like that without seeing it in person. If I bought it I would make arrangements to pick it up myself. My nephew sells high end cars on ebay and it is nothing for someone to fly in to see the car and even drive or arrange to have it transported home. It's too much money to do any other way. At the very least you need an agent in the area you trust to do it for you.

You don't have to fly in, just have the deal escrowed. Since the seller makes no mention of a LOA and you'd have to have one regardless, having Tascerella escrow the deal (if he does that) while he authenticates the cue would be the way to go. If Pete wouldn't escrow, then Marcus.

But its all a little besides the point if the cue is not worth the 25K isn't it?

Thanks

Kevin

I don't know diddly about high end cues, but I do know about shipping in the US Postal Service. His post says free shipping in the US via "media mail'. Media mail is for shipping books, video tapes, manuscripts or medical records. It is subject to inspection by the USPS. I would hope the seller is shipping this Registered Mail and insured for full value, 25k. Regular mail is only insurable up to 5k, registered is the only service offered by any shipper to go up to 25k.
Personally, if I were buying this cue, I would be flying or driving to see it. Is this a normal price for a Bushka?

Having looked at several Bushkas recently at the Super Billiards Expo and the Southern Cue and Case Show, I think the price is a little high. But someone has apparently bid, so it is now worth $25,000 to someone.

S-H-I-L-L. Don't fall for it. Someone try and go see the cue in person.

So you have a shill bid on it and its the only bid. Wouldn't ebay still want the fee? The only way out would be to end it early, right? What would ebays fee be on 25 grand?

""IF"" ( Yea The Big little word) I were to buy the cue I would fly in to get it .
I don't see someone starting a big ticket item like this thinking that the buyer is just going to mail a bank draft .
I say it's leget and priced a bit on the high side but, a high roller might not think so . After all there's only so many Buska's in this condition out there .

Yes, But........

Most Bushkas for sale have little or no history, and have had restoration or repair work, replacement shafts, etc.

If his story is true, this is an original cue from the original owner, so you know the full history of the cue. His eBay description is well written, so you could have him write and sign a nice letter to go with the cue. I'd pay extra for him to do this if I had to.

In any high end collectible, provenance adds a lot of value.

Kevin:

I think the price is the maximum that cue could be worth in great condition, with an LOA and with the buyer standing in front of the cue, not on Ebay.
But since it's the Muff's cue maybe more.
