Energy transfer from cuetip to whiteball

What’s the difference? Can you hit the CB fast but not hard? Hard but not fast?

I think so?

Hard to tell in pool coz there are different circumstances, but ..

3c players blend hi impact force and slow speed. Gives a cb that rolls naturally and maintains spin.

Can also do opposite, low impact force with hi speed.

The cueball is gone too fast for the grip on the cue to matter. It has been proven many times.

Sure it does p=mv. The problem is that as the weight increases your ability to move the cue fast decreases. So there is a weight beyond which it is not productive for a particular individual to increase the weight of the cue.
A firm grip does result in different ball action... back to 3c billiards basics.

The bigger balls and faster cloth and larger distances expose a lot of what is happening with balls on cloth that isn't easily noticed in pool.

Well, no. A firm grip only changes the action to the extent that it changes the speed of the stick and where you hit on the ball.

The main use of those ideas is that they might prepare you for particular shots that you would otherwise hit wrong. But that's psychological, not physical.

I don't think that's correct, bbob.
🤨

Here's 3 examples of the cue/cue tip moving, 'Fast/Short/Quick' but not Hard'!

These are excellent shots, and appreciate the examples of short stroke excellent draw.

But help me understand how exactly one is hitting the ball “fast but not hard”. I mentioned earlier that I understand how thinking of it as fast stops a player from tensing and actually slowing the cue, but are you saying something else? If so, what do you say is happening?

By being able to execute a more perfect 'Timing/Tempo' to the stroke to accomplish the Most amount of effect with the least amount of effort/force!

This video is from 1983, the table is a Brunswick 10' a Centennial, 4-month-old cloth/non heated, No foreign substance applied to the CB!

Tell me, "Does it look like I'm hitting the CB hard/force for the effect I'm transferring to the CB"?

F=MA is the correct answer. 🤷‍♂️
If I only knew what that means. 😉
My guess as to fast that isn't hard would involve deceleration. 🤔
Besides what's the definition of hard? 😉
Wasn't it President Clinton that responded with, "that depends on what the definition of is , is."
Hard could be the second grade or long and hard could be my Winchester. (The Winchester answer comes from a Granny joke in an old Playboy magazine.) Shrug 😉

See Post #64 for 'Fast' cue action without, 'Force/Hard'!

No 'Deceleration'!

My high school physics book was describing a spinning ball in flight. The illustrations matched how a spinning cueball curves. It matched up nicely with the illustrations and explaining of why a wing provides lift. Well my experience catching in baseball proved that ain't the way a spinning baseball curves. Of course when I objected in class the teacher gave me the task of explaining why. Er uh how come the book was wrong. Well I didn't have book knowledge I had experience knowledge. So I had to guess. 🤷‍♂️

Now show us a "Hard but not Fast" stroke.

Fortunately for me, 'I' never had to 'Stroke the cue' that way!

If a 'Player' has very good 'Timing & Tempo' there should Never be an instance/shot for a player to come out of their shoes in 3C or Pool!

Especially with the 'Faster' cloth for 3C and Pool!

So how does hard and or fast fit into a Force, Mass, and Acceleration or Deceleration equation? F= MA or D
F = MAD? Better call the Peace sign expert. 😉 Just kidding, hope I don't get sent to detention for getting smart like the high-school days. 😉

How about describing it for us?

How am I going describe something I've Never done/needed!

Here's the 'Closest' example of 'Me' hitting the CB sort of 'Hard'!

I'll let You present an example!

I'll put the question to You!

"Do You Think/Know I'm hitting the CB 'Hard/Force' in my 3 examples"?

"Do You Think/Know I'm hitting the CB 'Hard/Force' in my 3 examples"?
I don't know what that means - maybe something about the stroke/grip? The CB doesn't know anything about the stroke or grip - it only "feels" the resulting speed of your cue's mass at impact.

Great shots as always. (y)

I asked You, what 'You' think or think You know!

I never mentioned the word 'Grip'!
