enough with the cut break already!

seriously, the cut break is killing us at the Mosconi cup! Archer is the only guy that went to his regular break and it worked great.

Too many scratches IMO with the cut.

I totally agree with your comment on enough with the cut break! SVB needs to go back to the break that won him the US open!

Although I'm not a particular fan of the cutbreak either, I was at the US Open 9ball tourney the last 3 days, and EVERY player was using a cutbreak this year, including Archer. These were all money rounds, and perhaps the players had figured out how the tables were breaking best. Perhaps that carried over into the Mosconi Cup as well.

It seems to me that the cut break is effective at making a ball, but it has too many disadvantages.

Yes, you can find a groove to make either the corner ball or the 1B, but it comes at the price of an uncontrolled CB. The CB gets kicked around for "no shot" or into a pocket. If you make the 1B & don't scratch, you have to hope to see the 2B.

The pro's need to go back to the traditional break of forcing the corner ball in & playing shape on the 1B in the upper corner. That break spot & speed can be found (nearly) as easily as the cut breaks IMO. It's becoming a lost art though.

I'm going to break however it takes to consistently make a ball, and have a reasonable chance to have a shot on the one.

These guys play pool for a living, so they know better than I do. :-)

Even Earl? lmao

Before or after he yelled at us?

Don't know about the mosconi cup but at the open you have to break from the box. Are u saying there is still a line where a wingball is still hot?

Still hot....

Wing Ball is still hot from the break box, when the 1 ball is racked on the spot. Rack the 9 on the spot and wing ball barely goes......

I have only tried this with a cutbreak I usually make the wingball on the same side as the cueball with the cutbreak.

Never tried breaking from the box without cutting. If it works why did I not see anyone do this for 4 days at the open?

Controlling the cue ball was everything in the old days. Now I guess they are sacrificing cue ball control for making the corner ball or 1 on the side. I liked the days of the power break myself, it was more exciting to watch the big breakers. This soft break stuff just doesn't seem manly. But I guess what ever works and I get that, i guess it's the taking the power out of the game is what I don't like.

maybe some folks didn't realize the Mosconi cup had the 9 ball racked on the spot. I just went down to my table....very close copy of the table they played on and if you hammer the break from 8" either side of the head spot and play a hard stop shot you can make the 1 in the side or corner often and another ball goes round the table to the bottom corner. This I like because I wasn't letting the CB go off the side rail flying all over.
