Enough with you nits and nitwits

Well 1 thing is for certain.....

sorry guy, titanic has gambled a lot in his life and wasn't afraid to bet his own dough..I'm married also with 2 kids and still love to gamble.. sounds like the 14 your old has more balls then your friends..besides I don't think the tooth wanted the kids cash

This 14 year old definatley had more balls than your friend...Bucktooth...

I could care less if he does or does not gamble...It was just the impression I got from the wording of his post...If you say he gambles...great...never said there was anything wrong with gambling or not gambling. I was just responsding to the impression that he layed out on the table.....Perhaps he should have said somewhere that he matched up....Personally I could care less....

I never said I don't gamble...I routinely gamble...But you don't have to "go on the road" to be considered a gambler.

That is what irked me most about his post and your good friend Bucktooth...and you (if you hold the same postition)....

You all come accross like you are some kind of better man because you gamble...and others have no heart because they don't...

The fact of the matter is that none of you have any heart...Sure you have bankrolls the size of freaken footballs...very nice......but I have played MANY hands of poker and watched over and over the big stack bully the short stack by pushing all in (knowing that the small stack can't call and risk his whole stack)....That is all you guys do is try to bully the bet....

It takes more heart (IMO) to do the right thing with your money and support your family rather than risk it all on some fool bet that some idiot with 100xs your stack is trying to sucker you into......

And you need to re-read my inittial reply...I never said anything about Bucktooth barking at my friends......What I said was he was barking at EVERYONE in the entire room. He made no exception to who he tried to degrade into a sucker game....AGAIN...Here is what the origonal poster (obviously your friend) said.

All you youngsters have absolutely no class whatsoever.

You talk about Bucktooth being a lock artist. Did he ever ask any of you to play? No. Why? He played big action and played the top players.

Barking at EVERYONE (with no exception) means he was barking with NON big action and or NON top players.......and when a 14 year old (that of course had the backing) stepped up and called your boys bluff and said lets play...Your "good buddy" BuckTooth ran like a scard chimpanzee.

Don't kid yourself...It is very entertaining watching Bucktooth make a fool out of himself in front of a whole room...It is kind of like driving by a car wreck...You just have to see what the hell is going on.

But...don't kid yourself.....I don't think there are very many that have much respect for Bucktooth...Except some goofball that rides his shirtails everywhere he goes...

And BTW....you really did not need to get personal about my freinds with the having more balls bit.....That is a bet you would definatley lose. ;)

When your barkin' allot, you can learn a heck allot about another by the way they respond or react to your statements or reactions. Getting tells in this manner is a classic Minnesota Fats move, and Fatty was a master at making a game he won at and gettin' tells. Now if B. Tooth never won, never matched up, never played and just woofed I would have similar thoughts about this man. But only seeing him a few times (heard is a better word) I don't really know enough but to stay away from this type of action.

I have been reading the posts all you nits and nitwits have been writing about the Bucktooth and Fatboy debacle.

I want to set the record straight one final time. I have been a friend of Bucktooth's for over 50 years. I have known Grady Mathews almost as long.

All you youngsters have absolutely no class whatsoever.

We could all whip Muhammad Ali today but in his prime you would have got down on your knees and begged him not to hit you.

Bucktooth and Grady and Freddy all have one thing in common. They played
in POOL HALLS . Places you people would have never had the JUEVOS to even go into. The RATHOLE in Oakland, John Singer's on 7th Street in East Oakland, Trees in the Fillmore District in San Francisco to name a few.

These old players laid the grounwork for the sport you nits and nitwits are doing your best to destroy.

In their primes you would have been the "OWLS" who sat on the sidelines and tried to make your little side bets and couldn't wait to get back to your joint to tell your stories.

Im not going to say Bucktooth invented the jump shot but he is the first guy I ever saw do it back in the 6o's.

I remember watching him and Ronnie Allen play one handed one pocket and many of the games one or the other would make a ball on the break and run out. That was in Cochrans in San Francisco.

Those pool halls of their era were not FAMILY BILLIARD CENTERS!!!!! If you got out of line you could get your ass kicked pretty fast and good. When the players played I don't care how much money you had bet on the side or if you were staking a player you made no calls and did not interfere with the game.

You talk about Bucktooth being a lock artist. Did he ever ask any of you to play? No. Why? He played big action and played the top players.

Don't blame him if he got or gets huge handicaps. He doesn't put a gun to anyones head. They didn't nor do they now have to play giving him weight.

How many of you nits and nitwits ever got in a car and took off down the highway just looking for a place to play? Playing whoever was there.

I was not at the Derby Classic but I have seen the video. Why is there no sound.....to keep you idiots entertained. When Fatboy showed that cash Im sure Tooey said " Well you finally showed up with some cash follow me to the slaughter". He beckoned him at least three times to follow him.

And how many times have any of you ever seen anyone anywhere flip a coin for thousands of dollars?

If flipping a coin was gambling it would be done in every casino in the country.

When you see guys like The Beard, Grady or the Tooth you should show some respect and thank them for their contributions to this game.

And finally some words of wisdom from the old school:

If you see two guys shaking hands in a pool hall one of them is a sucker!

Don't beleive anything you hear and only half of what you see with your own eyes in a pool room.

My only regret is all you nits and nitwits are too young and you never saw pool when it was GREAT and you never will.

OH WELL!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love reading posts like this... because it reminds me of how glad I am... to NOT be you.

I've got 2 words for you tugboat: ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Oh how time pains me as I go through the realities of life. My take on this is and as time and reality has thought me, there are two types of people for the male and female genders no matter what time, epoch or era of history. Here they are:

Males - are either GENTLEMEN or A**h*l*s and;
Females - are either LADIES or B*tch*s

Now make four columns using these headings and then feel free to 'FILL-IN' the blanks. BTW, you can start with your Toothie if you like then go down the line. ;)

LOL, good one.
That reminds me of the closing line in "Big Brown Bear" (a drinking game played in the enlisted club by U.S. Marines in the early 60s)

Doug
( "I am not a fig plucker, nor a fig plucker's son, but I'll pluck figs, til the fig plucker's come ", must be repeated rapidly 3 times without a mistake or you had to START OVER from the beginning of the Big Brown Bear while buying pitchers of beer for the entire table )

*A 60oz. pitcher of beer cost .40 at the E club at the time..... and Pvt's pay was $80 a MONTH.

BIG BROWN BEAR:
Big Brown Bear
Couple of duck
Three green geese
Four running hare
Five fat females
Six Sicilian sailors sailing the seven seas
Seven Simple Simons sitting on a stump
Eight egotistical idiots echoing egotistical ecstasies
Nine nipping nips nipping and napping at Ned's knuckles
TEN, I am not a fig plucker, nor a fig plucker's son, buy I'll pluck figs 'til the fig pluckers come

.

hey smart guy, casinos make money off games that have a losing percentage off the house. casinos dont do any games that give even or better odds to the players cuz then they won't make any money off of them.

Nice one Doug. The version I knew in England was "The Pheasant Plucker's Son."

You tell us about how great Bucktooth was, then tell us not to believe anything we hear. Uh... OK.

Well, I'm nearly 50, been playing in the pool rooms and bars around 35 years or so. I haven't been posting on here as much lately as I used to. So I come here today with a few minutes to kill, and find out because I dropped by, I'm a nit and a nitwit. Imagine my surprise, I may not gamble much any more, but I never been called a nit before. Lets just say I'm more than a little offended. And as for some of my friends here, who love pool as much as I do, I'm offended for them too. I don't know who you are Titantic, but you have absolutely "NO CLASS" .... To come here and group everyone together, you need to step back, take a deep breath, and then apologize to whole forum.
It's fine to stand up for your friends, I applaud you for that. But if you have a problem with something someone said on this forum, aim your comments at them, not the whole group. There are plenty of people on here who will bet it up. I didn't follow all the posts about Tooth, but the few things I have read in the past, were not too flattering.
Like I said, in the future, maybe you should direct your posts, to the offensive poster. Or maybe find someplace else to bide your time, since you don't seem to like all us "NITS AND NITWITS"....

This is one my wife and I made up one night while watching a Strongman competition.

However I totally vote for the nitwit one - that should become a CLASSIC

I don't believe that we're allowed to vote. You had to be there IN PERSON.
Doug
( Rules. Always Rules and negative waves..............sheesh )

my final post on the subject

I would like to apologize to anyone who has been involved in this controversy that is not a nit or a nitwit.
I did not address my post to everyone on this forum. That would be stupid and that I'm not. You know whether or not you fit the category or not.
I'm sure most of the people on this forum are straight up people who enjoy this game as much as I did when I was younger. And to them please accept my apology.
To the nits and nitwits AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE my original post stands on it's own merit.
When two players try to match up and are jivin back and forth they are BOTH TRYING TO GET THE NUTS and who could blame them for that.

Over the years there were always people in pool rooms who had talents in other things and would challenge me. I had the same reply to all of them "THIS IS A POOL ROOM NOT A GOLF COURSE, TENNIS COURT OR BOWLING ALLEY". YOU WANT TO PLAY SOME POOL THATS WHY I CAME IN HERE.

Titanic:
You seem to be knowledgeable about Bay Area pool back in the day. That certainly was a fascinating time. Someone needs to write a history of those times - especially someone who knew not only Cochrans and the Palace but also the Oakland, Richmond, and Fillmore pool rooms.

I believe that most of that will be covered in Jay Helfert's upcoming book. Johnnyt
