F-250 smashed through Diamond Billiards today, tough loss...

Terrible things can happen at any moment and some people, like this wacko, don't belong in society. He should be charged with attempted murder and buried in a hole.

So sad to read. Deepest sympathies to Ron, his family, friends, and loved ones.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families.. Drunk idiots costing people their lives, I say zap the F***er.:angry:

Sorry to hear about this happening and please keep us informed as to the others that were injured. I hope they make a full recovery.

RIP Ron.. :frown:

There absolutely will be numerous charges. The report from
the news didn't even mention whether the driver of the truck
was detained or arrested. As far as I know, you can't be arrested
without being charged. There's no way they let this guy go free
at the scene, but the news report didn't mention his name, if he
was being detained, or arrested. Off the top of my head there
should've been a handful of charges. Involuntary manslaughter,
assault with a deadly weapon(multiple counts due to the number
of people he hurt), DUI, etc. The judge should allow no bail or make
it so high it's hard for him to get out anytime soon.

I'm going to google it and see if there's more info on this asshole's
status. He better be behind bars, unless he fled the scene and escaped
on foot.

I saw the license plate and sticker on the truck indicated the driver is in the US Coast Guard. The Uniform Code of Military Justice and federal authorities might take this over if that is the case. So maybe that's why the lag in details?

Maybe. Not much moves fast around here. I'm told he was an older guy.

They said alcohol was involved and that they were not going to release anything until there was a full investigation. I'm sure due to the circumstances they are just being careful.

UPDATES:
***ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED REGARDING THIS TRAGIC DEADLY STORY FROM MY LOCAL BILLIARDS COMMUNITY***

Yesterday at 5:00 pm at Diamond Billiards here in Cape Coral Florida, there was a deadly "accident". I play at Diamonds about half of my time. We have 5 pool halls here in SWFL and Diamonds is definitely the premier place to play.

Details are a bit rough but apparently a 75 year old man was kicked out for hitting on a young server as he was acing inappropriately (probably a creeper). He went outside and drove his Ford F-250 through the front window through the pool hall and pinned 2 people down between the bar and his truck with all the debris. I've been told he told the police "he did it out of revenge". I HAVE TO SAY IT IS MORE THAN 60 FEET TO THE BACK OF THE BUILDING AND HE WENT ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE FAR WALL.

They had to extract the two pinned people out and they are in critical condition and two more in stable condition. One of the victims so happens to be the Ron Gravel, he was the cook at Diamonds and a LONG time player and fan of the sport. A super nice guy I just met a few weeks ago and had a conversation with about Brunswick Centennials which I happened to have in my truck. We hit them around and weighed them and agreed they were great. I didn't even know he played and that he was a walking billiards encyclopedia. Great guy.

Ron didn't make it and sadly he passed away in surgery shortly after... RIP Ron Gravel. ***SEE BELOW HOW TO HELP***

There are three "money tables" right there in the front (9 ft Diamond Pro Ams) and that's usually where everyone sits and watches or just chats all day if not playing.
Apparently Justin Hall was racking at the table right where the truck came through (see photo below) and was clipped but he is fine. If two packages hadn't been delivered by the post office I would have been there and likely would have been right there. I had all intentions of going.

There is a GoFundMe account setup for Ron's family and his funeral expenses, if you feel you could give anything, please do. Even $1.00 helps. I donated $100 on behalf of Billiard Bill's, my business.

I think he may be in the hospital ... don't worry he is not going to run away ... The state will have to prove 'intent' and that can be hard to do without air tight evidence.

This is why they will be careful and diligent ... now if this idiot has already claimed it was revenge, that will be very helpful in the conviction of an aggravated manslaughter charge.

That alone can carry a life sentence in many jurisdictions ... add to this all the other charges and he will be wearing an orange suite for many years.

Alcohol, man oh man ... When will people learn to shoot pool and not drugs?

News story, the driver was 75 years old.

I do not know the other critically injured lady.

Just sad. So much destruction and loss for no reason at all. I hope the idiot responsible hates every second of whats left of his life. Who does something like this?

Tragic event indeed. Just horrible. Hard to imagine someone can be this mean. Money sent. Every little bit helps AZB. He was "one of us", do what you can, "Pay it Forward"

RIP Ron.

75 years old ?!?! ... Very unusual, someone capable of something like this is usually serving 20 to life by the time they are in their twenty's.

I suspect a long rap sheet ... and perhaps a temporary insanity plea.

The police can hold, or detain an individual who is suspected of a crime. The length can be anywhere from 24 to 48 hours depending on the jurisdiction.

However to be arrested you have to be charged with a crime or crimes ... this delay is the state simple making sure they do not leave any money on the table.

I retract my statement above, he should be charged with attempted murder AND 3rd degree murder, along with aggravated assault among other charges.

Give him the electric chair. The guy went crazy, take him out of society ASAP.

man thats messed up. condolences, sounds like he was a cool guy. so bad whenever random tragedies happen such as this one...

Where in Denver, maybe Table Steaks on Sheridan.
I'm probably older than you, but I was out of pool from 1974 to my divorce in '02
My first job in '67 was at Varsity 8-Ball right by DU, University & Evans

I remember when an SUV went through Pool Sharks in Las Vegas

This is a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to everyone involved.

The two incidents I remember are:
An angry pool player who felt like he lost everything and wanted to get back at someone rammed through the door and windows at Tournaments in Commerce City. If I remember right he lit himself on fire first.

The Billiards Institute at Sheridan and Colfax had a carload of people going at a very high rate of speed (100+ mph) miss the corner and come crashing right through the front window.

As far as I remember, nobody was seriously injured at either one. I was playing on the table by the window that got demolished by the car at the BI but stepped out for a late dinner and luckily wasn't there.

Alcohol was involved in both of those crashes.

James, one of the the owners of Diamonds just called and said that the guy had grabbed a female customers chest and the server told him that he needed to leave and the police said he was going 55 MPH when he hit the window. They ONLY served him 2 beers before he got kicked out but he had a plethora of empty beer cans in his truck.

We both agreed it is amazing there was ONLY 12 people inside when there may be 8 people right there normally alone.

He called to say thank you for posting the link for the GoFundMe info for Ron.

They have seen donations from anonymous, from players, cuemakers, friends, family and people that have never even been to the state of Florida and they are VERY thankful for all of the support throughout the local community as well as the online billiards community.

Ron does have two kids, and a wife here that he unfortunately left so unexpectedly. Any help is greatly appreciated from all.
