I can't speak for the pros, only for myself. I enjoy pool in all it's various forms, the good, the bad and the ugly. Tournament pool, money games, pool in far away places and pool in historic places. I like it all, even if occasionally someone on here pisses me off. I can take it as well as give it
. Yes, pool is not always pretty, and it's not always pretty on here either. But guess what, that's how life is, unless you live in a guilded cage. If you can't handle the give and take of an AZ thread I'd suggest you stay on YouTube.
Pool has been a mainstay of my adult life, a form of recreation and a source of income for the last 45 years. Why would I not embrace an opportunity to interact with people who share my interest in the game. Early on, I found AZ helpful to me in promoting various events I was working on. It was only after several years posting in the tournament section and on the various calendars that I discovered the Forums. I'm glad I did.
I typically come on here at least once or twice a day to see what's going on in the pool universe, sometimes posting my opinions and more often finding nothing I wish to share. For me AZ is a diversion from the many other areas of my life that I'm involved in, like helping out with the grand kids, attending to various rental properties, spending time with family and friends and taking care of all the little tasks that come with maintaining a home and running a business out of it. I guess you could say that I'm semi-retired since I rarely work more than a few hours a day. That gives me time to visit AZ more often than others I'm sure.
So yes, AZ is an aspect of my life that I enjoy, so why not. There have been times when I haven't visited this site in days and weeks. But the thought of leaving (that's always amused me when someone announces they're leaving - WHY?), has never crossed my mind. If I want to leave, I just do. I don't have to be here if I don't want to be. I don't come on here when I'm busy with other things. No big deal, I've never felt like I have a commitment to be here.
I happen to like the freedom that a forum like this has. You can post or not post. You can come when you want and leave when you want. Much like the poolrooms I hung out in for so many years. Maybe that's why I like AZ. It's always open 24 hours a day, like an all night poolroom . I can even book a little action here once in a while, and might even get paid if I win.
Well you get the picture. Why more pros don't utilize this facility I'm not sure. I expect it's because they're busy out there trying to make a living and don't have the time or energy. I can fully understand that. I used to shoot pool 10-14 hours a day, so how much time would I have to spend on the internet. I didn't have time for movies, dating, going out to eat, ANYTHING! I was a poolroom rat! If they had the internet back then, I would have been the last one to use it.
Anyway, thanks for hanging out in the AZ poolroom with me. I hope we can make a game one day. Sad to say I rarely play anymore. I guess you could say I'm a semi-retired pool player too. For whatever reason seems the only time I get a "jones" to play is when I'm walking down a side street in Manila and I see one of those hole-in-the-wall poolrooms. Something stirs in my blood and I have to go in there and challenge someone. I love it!
