Fed Up with UPS

Please allow me to vent my frustration.... On November 30th 2006 i went to the local UPS store (privately owned franchise) to mail a cue over seas. (Europe)..This cue was not sold and no $$$$ changed hands. I was giving this cue as a gift...The cue was a lower end Joss That i got wholesale for under $200.00. Anyway, the UPS store employee told me that the price to ship it UPS with a tracking number would be somewhere around $90.00 or so. I said that that was just to much for me and he stated that he could send it USPS cheaper because they have regular mail boxes also and they do accept mail and parcels for the local post Office. He said it would be somewhere around $40.00 to go that route. So i filled out a customs slip and away it went. The clerk originally told me that i could track it with the customs number. That turned out to be false. Well guess what, it has now been over 2 months, and to my knowledge it still has not been delivered.

Now i feel like a jerk because i did not spend the extra 45.00 or so to have sent it straight UPS. The Store owner has no idea where it is. He keeps telling me that he is going to the local post office to see what he can find out. I told him that i have already spoken to them and their answer quite simply put is this...Since you dropped it at UPS, how do we know for sure that it was really sent by mail. Therefore they are and wil not be responsible for its loss.. The UPS store owner keeps saying that it will be delivered in the end so please be patient. He now tell me that for the money i spent it was shipped parcel post. The cheapest way possible. I told him if i had known that. I would have never shipped it that way and would have taken it to the Post Office myself.

So because of my stupidity or cheapness i guess i am going to lose all the way around. Unless i take the UPS store owner to small claims court and sue him.....Which under my current circumstances i simply do not have the time to do.

To the intended receiver, you know who you are and i am sorry that this whole mess is so screwed up. it is not your fault and i accept all of the responsibility. You my friend have done nothing wrong. Hopefully someday your postal service will knock on your door and deliver this nice cue to you.............thanks for letting me rant..I now feel a little better......mike:.......mad:

USPS surface parcel post I believe is 6-8 weeks delivery. And USPS does have the WORST tracking system in the world, specially when it comes to international packages. I just sent my friend a package in China and I tracked it everyday, but their site says nothing. Then I just got an email from my friend telling me he got it.

EDIT: I checked USPS and it's supposed to be 4-6 weeks

Mike,

Unfortunately, you don't have many choices. The package should have been sent via USPS Global Priority Mail, which does have full tracking, and gets there in about a week usually.

I have to tell you that I have sent many packages over seas this way and I think $40.00 is the most that I have ever paid. Parcel Post should have cost much less. Go to usps.com and you can calculate the postage to your intended address. They will give the charges to ship it all the different ways that USPS offers, and Parcel Post is probably the cheapest. You should take that information to the Manager and ask why you paid $45.00 to ship something that cost much less. I think his employee must have made a mistake and charged you based on shipping it Priority, and then actually shipped it Parcel Post.

I hope that helps!

cueball1950,

I feel your pain, my friend. The package delivery business here in the U.S. and abroad can be brutal sometimes. A person can sure get edgy whenever they send something of monetary or sentimental value through the mail. But it sounds to me as if (in your title) you are miffed at UPS in general (and the USPS). This being an individually owned and operated UPS business may warrant taking some of the blame from the UPS main division. They have always done me proud whenever sending or recieving packages, though all of my deliveries have been within the U.S. border. I hope this all works out for you in the long run (which it literally is:( ).

USPS only insures and gives a CONFIRMATION of DELIVERY only in the U.S...if sending to Europe UPS may not be in that part of the country you send to..when sending in the U.S. and overseas i always send Priority Mail when i send thru USPS..i have never had a probelem all these years ..i think with all that PRIORITY MAIL stamped and taped on it helps some..i wish other luck...last week on the 2nd i sent an ARMY friend in Afganistan a 12 lb.package i sent it Priority Mail from the Chicago area he received it yesterday thurs.the 8th.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) :)

Cuedoctor...I changed my title.. please do not get me wrong. I am not blaming the USPS. I am sorry if you got that impression. I am blaming both the UPS store and myself. Believe me when i say that i was/am embarrased to have made this post. The only reason i did not go to the USPS office after being told how much it would cost to go UPS is i figured i would be saving a little money and gas by doing it that way....Boy that was MY mistake....So please cool down and stop geting so uptight..Maybe i should have not just posted this in the 1st place. Was just trying to save a little money and maybe this post will save someone else alot of headaches........mike

Phuck UPS! I am tired of everything being lost or redirected and two or three days late. I am still waiting on my cue that said: Out for Delivery on Wed. morning. When it didn't come, I rechecked the web site. It was sent back to Oregon, then they realized they screwed up, changed the web site for Wed. to just show Arrival Scan for Vancouver, etc. etc......then Thursday came, now Friday it says again Out For Delivery. Yeah right.

Can't rely on anybody anymore.

I have received many packages in China from the US by USPS Global Priority mail with no problem. Takes 4-5 days.

I have also sent packages from China using China Post EMS delivery to the US, UK, Australia, South America, etc with no problem. Again 4-5 days.

Sorry about your problem. I think you can give USPS another chance, but take it to the Post Office!

For international I only use USPS Global Express. (EMS) fully insured. I understand it's the only international service they offer with tracking. I've been paying an average of $40. Domestic I use Fed Ex, mostly 2 day insured. My average cost is $25.

When you go to those privately owned UPS stores, their rates are marked-up exorbitant, and who's to say that a highly insured item will ever make it to the post office?

Just a word of caution to everbody: Don't ever say anything bad about USPS. Bad things can happen, didn't ya'll see that episode of Seinfeld? Ain't that right cuedoctor? HAHA

Hey cueball don't blame yourself..how are you suppose to know.you went to a legitimate business..that's what's nice about fourms .thanks to people like you posting about problems we all learn from mistakes...i hope things work out for you..sincerly

At the company I used to work for in England we called UPS "Useless Parcel Service." They once managed to lose a shipment of 20 electronic display signs that we were sending to France. 20 boxes that each measured 5ft long by 1ft wide & deep!!! How the hell does that happen?

Damm Right:D :D :D
Dont get me wrong,I aint never shot no one who wasnt asking for it:D :D :D

Short story about UPS. I have a lot of deliveries by UPS in the winter - a lot of them are for my neighbor who runs an international business from her residence and brown can not get up her driveway (4 wheel drive all the way). So you end up developing a relationship with the driver since you see him every day. He called his boss one day, told boss he would be playing pool with me for a couple hours, and his deliveries would be late!!!
---- of course the reason: he was broke down, we tried to fix it, couldn't, and he was waiting on the mechanic and it would be a couple hours.

No problem, just a little grouchy,I got bit by a big black dog today while walking my route while it was 18 degrees out and slipped trying to run from the dog on the ice that the customer didnt shovel because he was too lazy, not a problem:D :D

But really, figure this out for me.Every day DHL,UPS,and FEDEX back there trucks up to out post office and unload packages for us to deliver for them. How can they be cheaper when they subcontract out there delivery because the post office is cheaper than letting there own people deliver it and they trust us to get it there, not there own company. Its amazing that with the BILLIONS of pieces of mail the post office handles we even have to do private package companys delivery for them also! And now these franchise ups stores have the nerve to even imply to there customers that they gave the package to the post office and there's a problem. We dont need any help screwing up a package delivery,we do a good enough job of that by ourselves:D
LOL
