Somehow I missed seeing you voodoodaddy and blackjack, we were up there friday nite, saturday nite and a little today. We actually left early during alison vs. monica match because the seating was so crappy. I'm pissed that I spend $94 from ticketmaster for seats that were in the second row and at the far end of the table. I couldn't see diddly...and the crowd clapped for every shot that was made, that was so lame.
I was confused when looking at the board last nite and seeing jennifer playing alison again, until someone explained the draw to me--but, I'm still confused--I guess I don't understand the point and it didn't seem fair.
I think my spectating days for the wpba are over--I'm going to stick to watching the men's Florida pro tour.

Very True, but didn't they both lose at least once? GYK always seems to win the xtra match that takes her out of double elim, maybe she should dump the match before and then come back across. Maybe, if you make it to the ONE LOSS round, they should make the race to 13 or something.

I was there all day Saturday (I left after the final draw) but I had to start heading back to El Paso so I could be home today... sorry I missed you. I should be around Melbourne sometime in the near future, see you then. I have some pictures from the event, I'll try to post them after I get some sleep.

Melissa since you are a wpba player can you explain the reasoning of the second draw and tell us when the wpba started doing this. In the couple times I played many years ago they didn't do this and I'm just wondering what their thinking is.

They switched to the final 16 I believe to get more women on TV. The final 8 all make it to TV. Not sure of this. Maybe only at select tournaments.
The prize money is higher.
But of course it doesn't help people like Jennifer Barretta who drew Alison. But, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.
Monica Webb and Kelly Fisher will be up there every time. As will Lee if she is healthy.
Keep an eye on Tracie Hines and Sarah Ellerby. Both of them have now been close enough to develop the toughness needed to be winners. The butterflies should be gone, and now they both know that they deserve to be there and have the skill to compete at that level. That, I believe, is 90% of the battle.

I'm going to do a complete flip on my opinion about this format from my opinion about a year and half ago. At first I thought it was novel and interesting way to do a format, but re-drawing 1-loss players into the A-side chart just isn't right. It's just completely not fair to the players that have earned their right to a double elimination format.
Maybe the WPBA can do this format once a year, but every event is just not fair to the players.

Melissa Herndon was definitely ALL BUSINESS and she played tough all week! I also want to say that I was impressed with Melissa Morris this past week. She won a couple of nailbiters to get into the round of 16, including a hill-hill match with Helena Thornfeldt - Helena kept snapping in the 9 off the break in that match and Melissa (Morris) was able to keep her composure and still come away with the W.
It was great to finally meet Allie - and to spend some time with Voodoo Daddy and Nostroke. Girlwon1 had a a few tough matches and I enjoyed the time I was able to spend with her and some of the other players. Jenn Barretta had a great tournament - its a tough way to go out when you have to play Allison twice in a row - Jenn was able to defeat Allison in the first match by remaining calm and keeping her composure when things were not going well. She fought her way back into that match and deserved to win.
Lisa D' Atri played extremely well early in the week - she was very relaxed in her first few matches and she looked as if she was having a great time. That attitude wins matches.
Karen played well all week, so did Sarah Ellerby and Xiaoting. Xiaoting just couldn't get her break working, and when she defeated Anna Kostanian 9-1 she was still a bit frustrated that she was still unable to control her break. As far as the format goes, all the players seemed fine with the format despite the fact that it eliminates players after 1 loss. Some of the players did get some tough draws (Melissa Morris drew Ga Young and Jenn drew Allison again) but this tournament was not going to be easy to win with the all of the great players that were in the final round of 16. I though the tournament went great and Steve and Peg did an awesome job - as always.
