got freddys book and its hard to put down:)
ive really enjoyed all the stories and all the pictures of the players
seeing some of the players out of the pool room put a nice personal touch to them
i didnt expect a section on one handed hustlers but its in the book

all in all excellently written and presented
great job freddy :thumbup:
cant wait for the hard copy

The Beard's new book is a must have for any serious student of the game and all the rapscallions that populated it over the years. I first jumped around to read about the people I was familiar with and now I'm doing a cover to cover comprehensive read. Terrific tome Freddy! :thumbup:
 
The Encyclopedia,,,,,!!!

I received mine last weekend and read it,,,,,,

I've read and owned virtually all of the well known pool books and this is by far the best one out there,,,,,

Move over ''The Lions and the Lambs'',,,,there's a new Sherrif in town and he goe's by the moniker of ''The Beard''.....

This book exceeded ALL Expectations,,,,!!!

Even my wife won't put the book down and she doesn't even care for the game.

What an entertaining book Freddie has put out here, and just as informative as well. A lot of work went into this 380 page volume! Truly a must-have for any serious fan of pool. 95% of these players I had seen play and it was still fun for me to read about them. Hard cover, soft cover, no big deal. Just get one! You'll be glad you did.

please guys stop :grin: My copy has to travel long way over the ocean, and reading how remarkable the volume is tortures me.
I'm so glad I jumped on pre-pub order, good to know the book turned out to be so cool. Thanks for great work The Beard!!!
 
Is it in bookstores......I want one....I used to sweat Freddy's action in Chicago years ago....some great one picket....

No bookstores yet, Jake. But here is the latest commercial:

I haven’t put the books out to the general public yet, but what is available now are a limited supply of 8.5 x 11 proof, soft color- cover copies, 300 plus pages. The proofs are the same exact thing I sent out to the 100 pre-publication people except the proofs are larger size. The ones I sent out were 6 x 9. A proof is an actual sample issue of what a writer is publishing.
I am charging $50 + $4 shipping for a proof and I will throw in a companion DVD. Diana Hoppe's, "The Road Scholars," retail on Ebay $20. It is a DVD with candid interviews of 11 of the hustlers featured in the book.

I also have a few 8.5 x 11 full color proofs and they cost $74.95 plus $4 shipping. I have a 7.44 x 9.69 full color proof and that costs $64.95 plus $4 shipping. The bonus DVD is also included.
 
When do the hard cover copies go out? I can't wait to read it. Or should I get one of these as well?

Yes they do!

I have been enjoying the book in spurts and loving every minute of it. Especially the section on the Rack in Oak Park, MI...my home town. I had a friend that gambled w/Jerry Howard in all three: golf, bowling and pool.

Thanks for the effort on putting this together Freddy, I hope it's a huge success.
