Free At Last!!! Retired to do what I want to!!

Hey now you sound like my kind of guy! I think I like your philosophy! I'm going look for a place to hunt today, might get my hair cut after I take my morning walk.

That sounds way too busy for first day of retirement.... ;)

Today was my last day at work, now I'm on vacation and taking overtime off until 11-1-14 when I am officially retired. It doesn't feel any different today but I imagine I will be able to get used to it.......Free at Last!

Whoo Hoo!

I retired 3 years ago this month. I play pool almost every day. It has been wonderful to say the least. The happiest time of my life. This will be my 5th year in a row at the Derby which is pool paradise for me. I hope you enjoy your retirement, there's been nothing like it for me.

Congrats on making it across the finish line. Sounds like you made it in time to savor the victory. I know you've talked about a lot of ideas for giving pool the shot in the ass it needs. Best wishes for your well deserved retirement. :)

Speaking of fish, snorkeling off the caymans is not to be missed.;)
Oh and there's a full blown solar eclipse (in the u.s.) coming up in 2017, so start making plans now:p

If you get bored and want to do some reading , I have lots of historical research for ya'

congratulations for making it through! hope you have a lot less pressure about early morning rises and toughing it out through a long day at work. love it for all you guys and gals who have 'tired out.

congrats and I hope to make it to the land of retirement myself one day.
(I did get a brief taste of it in my late 30's early 40's when I took some time off working to travel and play pool. I was a great 2 1/2-3 years)

The art of crowds avoidance...Cindy & I usually stay home on weekends unless there is something specific we don't want to miss. We do our playing during the week...less traffic, less crowds.

Just doing our bit to make things less crowded for all the working stiffs...;)

What ever you have plans to do, do it. You are a lot closer to the end then you are to the beginning and once we pass a certain age we age very quickly.

In other words 20 years from the age of 30 to 50 may mean nothing.
That same 20 years when from 55 to 75 can be huge. I hate to be a downer but that is how life is and things can't be put off at a certain point.

I think the only reason I just wrote this post was because I just read this story like 10 minutes ago.

It hit close to home because the same think happened to my uncle after working at a job he hated for 35 years. He never collected the first retirement check before he any my aunt were killed in a car crash.

I'm curious where do you retirees play and how often?

I retired 12 years and spent 5 years fishing before getting back to my love for pool that I had when I was 20. Started practicing at an old small pool hall where the local kids hang out and with all the info online it really advanced my game to a higher level from, what I played back then. There is a dive bar in the area that has an 8ft with simonis that gets some good players in the evenings but would like to find a place where retirees hang out during the day.

Congratulations

I retired 18 months ago and now hang around the pool hall all day. You will not care anymore what day it is. You will know it is Sunday when you see no mail in the mail box!

Enjoy

From your descriptions, you guys all seem to be retired and single. Since hanging up my business attire, I have gotten a bit more time for playing pool. But mostly, my job is to keep my wife entertained.

Congratulations on your retirement. Just remember, there are no days off.

I retired almost 10 years ago, the first day my Blood Pressure was down 20 points. Stay busy and enjoy!

Oh yeah

Congrats sir. Go to pool hall; stay waaay tooo late. Go home; sleep in until late afternoon. Get up shower and repeat ! Congrats on your retirement !

On my first day I did a few chores and yeah that's where I ended up..in pretty early but there is always tomorrow!!!

That is if the new boss has her back turned!

Today its endless One Pocket!

Thanks for the Reminder

Yes I know what you mean. My plans are to do some serious taking care of myself first and get back in shape getting some of the stress fat off being behind a desk will do things to you. Then I am going to start formulating and working on the bucket list of things I want to do.

Ive been in a lot of chaos in my job and I know that I am going to go through some changes as I tune things down and dial things back a bit. I do have a business where I do commercial lawn care but that's going to be kept strictly part time to one half day a week. I have no desire to work full time at anything except playing pool or something to do with pool and really I don't want pool to get in the way either but I want it in my life very deep.

New Players

Yes you are correct I have talked about doing things with pool and I do have plans.

Eventually I would like to develop some events but events don't seem to foster a lot of local interest or build the base. What I plan to do is come out with a series of books that are instructional, small and available in pool rooms. I want them to be cheap enough so that if a room owner sees someone who seem interested in the sport but is having a hard time that he can suggest a copy to help the person learn to aim better or bank better or learn to apply English in a better way. I want them to be cheap enough for the room owner to be able to just give one away knowing that if he keeps a customer interested that he will get much more back in return. I think if we can make some of the leaguers better and if we can keep people interested that is a step in the right direction.

I think there is something that each of us can give the sport that will help bring in some new blood. Events are great but new players is probably the most important theme.

Congratulations on your retirement. Lord willing, I'll be there in twenty five years.
Awesome idea to advance the game through writings and events. With more thinking this way, the sport will survive.

Yard work and Pool

Yard work and Pool. Not a bad way to live a life. I need to add in fishing I think.
