free tAR vs PPV tAR

I enjoyed the Webb/Rousey match even though I could only watch portions of it at a time due to other commitments. I thought Rousey played extremely well in the banks and 1 pocket and Webb played extremely well in the 10 ball. These are two people you hardly get to see play, so it was a treat in that respect.

At least the TAR people will get to recoup some of their initial expense setting this up from this revenue even though they haven't exactly hit the lotto.

I'm not so sure about that. 1000 users is nothing. There must be a couple hundred thousand league players with pins, patches, and buttons all over their cases/shirts. You know those bangers would be all over the free feed...

I doubt they scratched the surface for the league player base... TAR should really think about how to advertise. Maybe pay APA, BCA, TAP, etc... to force the LO to hand out fliers. Or go to all the yearly events and pass em out. You know they would tell all their minions back home :) Then word would spread and the free user would climb real fast ;)

I think TAR has a real product. Just needs some time to take off. It would be a shame to see them fold up without giving it a good 3-5 years... Thats very acceptable for any start up...

$$$$

To start with I want to say that I am all for what the action report is for and has done for the sport as of recent. and here comes the BUT. After watching the one pocket match between Shane an Cone I beleive they need to work on the comentary.
Especially knowing what they know about the players. ie Shane has stated that he dosen't play 1P very well and is interested in working on his 1P game . With that when prospective customers tune in to watch the people they seen in all the billiard publications, and get the comentary that took place the other night. than tonight is what you get. Just this guys .02 worth now let the bi^&% session begin .....

Why would I pay for an event that happens when I sleep ?????

as far as banning folks for giving updates... I didnt see anybody complaing when there were updates for the WPC or the Mossconi Cup... hell there were 10 different people giving directions on how to watch for free on line... both of those productions cost WAAAAAAAAYYYY more than the TAR stream..

Junkie you are right about the commentary. It was biased to say the least.

The feed was free though, and having champions like Frost etc talk about the match is interesting to alot of people... just wish they wouldn't commentate will talking so bad about the other player.

Seriously now......

When it was free, I was watching between 500 (minimum) and over 1000 users logged in constantly..... chatting away, having a blast, commenting on someone dogging shots or making monsterous shots.

Everyone was living it up for days on end until 7am or so, every single night. Some people commented on whether or not they'd take off work, or whether they'd be late... because they couldn't pull themselves away from the action.

The hotel's internet has been a constant struggle. I'm not affiliated by TAR in anyway, I'm not an employee, sponsor, owner, anything. Therefore, when I say the hotel's internet is the worst joke of the galaxy --- the fact it's going as well as it is is AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!!!

In fact, IF I recall BCN had a JIZZZOKE of a time running their live stream here in years past. Since I'm in the industry, I always check out how others do with this type of stuff. I pay attention. This year, BCN is tape delaying their matches because they know the network at the hotel is as laughable as the guy who got mauled instigating the tiger at the zoo the other day. Smart people. TAR stepped up into a tough, tough situation and invested berserk hours (MOSTLY for free) to ensure everyone at home was set with their gambling fix.

I'm just merely a volunteer who is a fan of what they're doing, because my business does similar stuff all the time--- so I'm very sensitive to how DIFFICULT it is to do what they do..... ESPECIALLY for how much they charge to do it. I love volunteering with them because I know everyone wins: you and them. It's GREAT for pool.

Industry average for managing events of this length..... a company like TAR would need to clear $15,000 to make it worth while.

Over the last few days, I repeatedly asked people to buy the PPV even if the matches didn't wet your whistle. Because I know a HUGE majority of you guys were sweating matches for days on end for free (and loving it). I know by not supporting their PPV is the equivalent of eating your young, if you like their product.

50 people is a joke people. Yes, the video is choppy at times but it is NOT TAR's fault at ALL. I personally spent at least 2 hours on the phone this week with Wayport technical support because they are not getting the dedicated bandwidth they paid for. The majority of the time it is ok. Not perfect, but as good as it'd get from this location - that's for sure. If you're really unhappy and you feel you got "hustled" out of ten measly dollars when you've been sweating matches for free all week, I'm SURE Nasty or JCIN would be more than happy to refund your 10 dollars - no questions asked.

Personally, if I was online all week for free - I would have bought a t-shirt and 1 or 2 PPV's, no questions asked, even if I played PS3 all night and didn't even watch it.... but that's just me.

I hope the rest of the 950 people who had the time of their life all week ask mom for $10 and support TAR.

Unreaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal.

i paided my 10$ to see Sarah and Monica play and after about 30mins of choppy feed, i was like ehhh oh well. I dont know why the feed was so choppy and the free feed was so good. But if the feed was the same as the Actionreport cam, then it would have been a 10$ well spent.

Surely you don't think it's that simple... Being rude will not help TAR get more business IMO

I didn't want to see that spesific match, I chose to practise pool myself. But I have just ordered DVD's for 100 $.

Hope others support the TAR too

I'm not being rude at all - I was just trying to be funny with the mom comment, BPG24.. IMO. I won't do anymore mom jokes, sorry.

Just to make sure no one reads into my last post for tones that aren't there... let me be clear:

It's a shame that nearly everyone partied all week online until TAR asked for a modest fee to help keep them clicking and hardly anyone showed up. Yes, I know it's that simple.

If you don't like my opinion, yell at me not TAR-- I'm not associated with them in any way. This board's full of opinions... that's mine.

Ok, I can respect that... Sorry I misunderstood your mom joke

Many people have stated that this wasn't a match that they cared to see. I will be shocked if the other PPV's don't get more people. I know i will be getting the Chohan match and Shane VS Efren or Busta if they play...

Good job commentating by the way.

Thanks, BPG. Thanks also to TAR for giving me the memories of a lifetime with that.

The bottom line is if TAR doesn't make it because no one will support them for $10, you'll never see someone else make a go of it. They'll think, "If TAR couldn't get people to pay $10, why would we try to make a go of it?"

It's about the value of your entertainment-- not necessarily one match. When I go to the movies by myself, I spend at least $23 ($8 or so for the ticket and the rest on a $5 soda, $5 candy and $5 popcorn). How long does a movie last? 1.5 hours?

Many of those 950 (I know cause I scanned the user list when I was manning the computer) were on from 10pm through the wee hours of the morning, for the last few days. Conservative estimate over 3 days is probably 15 hours - and watching SVB/Hennessy bet it up is way better than any movie.

So, in my humblest of opinions... if you enjoyed yourself from Friday through last night.... either pay $10 for a PPV you might not have been enthused about or go to their site and give them a Paypal donation of $10.

Who sings that song, "You Don't Know What You Got, Till It's Gone?"
I wish I could attach it to this post.

if i could view the ppv from work, i'd gladly pay the $10...but that's not tar's fault.

Just for the record ...
I know I was one of those who stayed logged on forever... but I had the last 2 days off and just turned on the CPU and let the stream run all day.. checking in from time to time...

I will be purchasing some goodies from the guys.. but not b/c I feel guilty for watching a FREE broadcast... honestly at times the chat was better thatn the action on the table... of course I was watching during dead hours.. anything after 7 in the morning or so wasnt worht paying for

Spidey: The clarity of your thoughts is beautiful. Everything you've said has struck a nail on the head.

What an odd coincidence that the people that were available for the free feeds over the last few days (which consistently drew 500 viewers) all had prior commitments for tonight's PPV feed (which peaked at 58 viewers as the 10B began).

It's too bad all 440 of those people missed the opportunity to donate their measly $10 to the tAR cause. Oh well, I'm sure Chad & Justin are more than happy to continue negotiating the rights to haul in & set up all that equipment and establish the video service with the hotel & their ISP. From what I can see, they have strong backs.

Hey, they've made something like $600 so far. Surely that's covered their living expenses for the last few days, the cost of all that fancy equipment, the cost of the PPV feed,...,etc.

Altho I have been watching the FREE feed for the past few days..... Ive only got to watch it before I go to work at 7pm and when I return home at 7am.....so the attitude about this is not needed.........Heck Ill gladly send the TAR boys 10 bucks right now just for the fact that the little bit I have gotten to see the Free feeds was jsut outright awsome!!!!!!! Talking to Darren Appleton, Karl Boyes, Scott Frost, Racheal Abbink...............hell it was great!!!!!!

I surely wish I was able to watch the Sarah/Monica Match last night. SArah is one of my favorite players and as I told TAR the other day....I will be buying this match on DVD when it is ready!!!!

As for the live feed, I popped in for about a total of 15 minutes on Monday and 5 yesterday. Its too choppy on my end to watch it. I just figured it was Ustreams fault since when I ordered the Strickland/SVB match it was perfect quality and I was impressed with it. I havent had time to do much watching at the moment, so its not that big of a deal to me. Would lose my job if I was up all night watching action matches and on AZ during the day.

Last night I logged in to their site and realized that they had the match going on, and I almost bought it. I chose not to buy it since I was not really interested in who was playing, and only had a couple minutes that I was going to be able to watch the stream. I fully plan on purchasing future matches from this event/TAR, as well as purchasing items from their store.

However, I will say that if the quality is choppy and not watchable, I am not going to feel obligated to just donate money for any other matches etc, even if it is the hotels fault. If the stream is not watchabable, its not worth it. If I walk into a movie theater and the movie is unwatchable, I am walking out, end of story.

Tar

I have multiple views on the overall of the Action Report. First off, I must say that I didn't tune in last night due to the fact that I was playing pool myself. I had not planned to order this PPV but had been leaning towards the Chohan/Daulton match. I have also supported TAR by purchasing the SVB vs. Deuel DVD.

There is a fine line behind what people would pay for. I am writing this based on my opinion but I am sure there are many others that feel the same way. I would plan to spend my money on the PPV's, live feeds, DVD's for two reasons, entertainment and learning experiences.

I supported the BCN when they first tried running a live feed on the Internet at the DCC. The first year it was $10. It was great. You would see a few matches each day and a little gambling at night. Perfect. The next year it went to $30, I believe followed by $50. Inflation: WOW. $10 was an amazing buy but $50 became ridiculous.

I like to pay to see good pool. That is why I am typically tuned in to see who is on the two tables gambling. I am glad to see that you are trying to put the big names or big money amounts on these tables. I would prefer to watch better players and learn from them. This is also the reason I bought the SVB Deuel match. I tend to purchase the good matches of Accu-Stats. I like either watching a player catch a gear and have a solid shooting percentage or a battle in a one pocket match with strategy, or just some plain ole sick banking.

Now going back to today. I will admit that I have followed TAR live streams so far. If they were planning to do this again, it is the perfect $20 idea for the week. Charge people $20 for the same thing they are seeing this year. It is great to see the pros come in the booth and talk about the matches and about stuff that is going on and the chat room interaction. I think the best part about the feed that I have been able to see is the comedy hour with the British. It adds quite a bit of entertainment. All by looking at some of the numbers (ie. 1000 viewers), by throwing in the price for next year, I think the good word would spread and TAR would have ~$20,000.

Now going to the flipside. The things that I can't stand are putting people in the booth that are absolutely terrible to listen too. If I had paid $20 for the live feed, it would make me cringe to sit there and listen to Derekdisco claim he is Jim Rempe and crap like that. Get the hell out of there. I don't care if you claim to think or want people to think that you play like Jim Rempe. Obviously you should invest some time into playing instead of talking. It gets old!

In conclusion of my novel: I think it just takes a little bit of marketing and economics to keep these guys there for the long run. Make sure that the advertising is there and information will also pass by word of mouth. But I think the key thing to remember is supply vs. demand. A lot of that is determined by price!

I think another fact that would need examination would be the length of time each user viewed. In my case, I could (can) peek at it from time to time, but couldn't invest a whole hour to viewing.

TAR Rules though, one cannot deny!
