I run into him every now and then and we catch up for a few minutes. Last time I spoke to him was maybe 6 months ago. He was still running Mills Modern Social (formerly Freezer's Ice House). That place is making a TON of money focusing on the college and young adult crowd in Tempe, AZ. We have several better options to play pool around here, so I haven't been in there in a few years.
Several better... You mean for 'Players.' Anyone that has owned or Managed a PR knows the 'Players' do Not pay the bills! It's the 'Bangers.'
Still don't think I've met the guy. Maybe if some of the rooms offered free pool, free drinks, and free food I would have a chance of running into him!

It definitely was a players room when it opened. It evolved from a players room into a successful business!

Within 10-15 minutes of that place we have Main Street Billiards and Dozer's. Both super clean and stocked with clean and shiny diamonds!

Yeah same here, although now I haven't really been to any of the pool halls around here in a couple of years...lol
Actually I don't think I've been to a pool hall to play since before Corner Pocket closed down...

You don't make money off of pool... OR pool players for that matter. Maybe league players some. Incentivizing the college kids from ASU to come in (who are just looking for a place to drink) and offer free pool with a drink purchase, is just good business.

I am alive. Haha. Have been so busy with the bar in Tempe that I haven't been playing, watching or streaming pool. I do miss it. Definitely lots of great memories and great people I met on my journeys. Hope all of you are doing well.
Yes its a great deal. We get a fair amount of retirees who take advantage of it and some guys who like to practice. During the weekends the more fun crowd take advantage of the deal. 11am-5pm pool is free with purchase. We have leagues Sunday through Wednesday. We don't do weekend tournaments or have serious players in there on the weekends which is okay with me. We get a good crowd of people playing and having fun on our 22 Diamond tables. If you are ever in AZ stop on in!

P.S. They are definitely poolrooms and Main probably has the best equipment. With the college kids and sheer volume, our tables take a beating but they are still in good playable shape.
Kolbys was a great little poolroom. I miss it.
