Banjo strings are pretty thin. I know a banjo player. His fingers look like little knobs on the end from the calluses. Thats his left hand from fingering.

When I was in college, I played drums in a band. One night, I nicked my thumb knuckle... just a small nick... by the end of the song, my drums and clothes were covered in blood.
