Those bumpers were very strong and very light, aluminum. They were in huge demand for circle track Camaros of a few year earlier vintage. That looks like the Camaro to me but the picture is blurred enough it could be a Firebird too.

Color and all matches the Firebird James Garner drove on the Rockford files best I remember. James did some pretty serious real world racing and just for grins ran off and hid from the helicopter supposed to film him on the twisty Pacific Highway I believe it was. Underneath the hood of that very plain looking Firebird were twin Paxton superchargers, must have been a blast to drive!

Especially when your a star and somebody else is paying for it!

I saw some car vid recently and the statement that Garner did all his own driving was made.

No Poncho.

The only way that is a Pontiac is if somebody put a Chevrolet bumper on it.

Yeah, I thought the Pontiac bumpers were fully covered. Not confident enough to say they were all years though.

GM often cuts corners. The 1970 Camaro front fenders were used for years with a cap on the front of them to change their appearance. Another funny, maybe even odder. The iron duke four cylinder went into early Novas. Must have had sidewalls a bit thin when they brought it back for the subcompacts. Somebody did a fifteen minute fix, riveted crudely cut out sheet metal cut with aviation snips onto the side of the block then made a new casting from that! No effort to make it clean and neat, probably somebody showing how easy the fix was and GM rolled with it.

He did a lot of his own driving, I think most of it. I also think the studio reined him in from doing some of the most dangerous stuff, other than things he did spur of the moment before they could stop him. He was a star and I am sure would not have been allowed to do a lot of the driving he did given time to prevent him.

The Pacific Highway is famously curvy and up and down. Running off from the helicopter on it must have required some serious speed since the chopper was of course coming a much straighter path.
