Gabe Owen vs Sylver Ochoa Saturday

Sylver lives a couple of blocks away from me. I'll shoot over to his house after the hurricane passes.

If you break his thumbs, all bets are off.

Know thats funny right there:thumbup:

Didnt Sylver match up with Frost about 3 weeks back in LA. Iknow Frost won the tourney and Sylver took second, but Sylver got him for the cash when they gambled.

Sylver is one of the upcoming one pocket players. Stepping out and playing tougher players is one this but Gabe is up there on the One Pocket players of today. I wish him luck. He may surprise everyone. I hope he doesn't. I was wanting to bet on him at the Derby.

All of the above is correct.

I'm wondering if this match up isn't staged for the up coming movie.

Also, are they playing on that realllllllly tight table at Bananas?

Hey, if people thought Larry Nevel had a chance against Johnny Archer and were willing to bet on it, I thought there might be at least ONE Texas player local to Sylver who thought he was the favorite.

I just wanted to get to that person before anyone else did.. :D

At least I'm opening up the wallet lately, which is more than I have done the first few years on the forum.

Russ

I saw on CNN that there was an unexplained swarm of moths over Iraq.

Now I understand.

Russ opened his wallet! LOL

That would be tabler 11. It ain't that tight. The pockets are pretty small, but pretty forgiving. It is though a pretty phony table.

Gabe Owen and Sylver Ochoa are scheduled to play 1 pocket Saturday in San Antonio for $5000.
The game is race to 8, dead even.
Who do you like?

Should be a great match. I was very impressed with Ochoa's game at the Hollywood Billiards tournament, and I sweated two sessions of him gambling with Scott Frost getting a little weight. He's at that stage where you don't know how good he might get, but he needs a little jump to get by this one IMO. I watched T-Rex do it a few years ago. He got better every time you saw him play. Wish I could be there. John Henderson

I wouldnt be surpised if sylver pulls this one off. Itll be a tough match but if hes on he can do it.

Hi-Ho Sylver.......Away ! (it doesn't even LOOK right)

I know Sylver is playing good but I still like Gabe. Sylver's action must be running dry. I wouldn't think this is the easiest game he can get.

I like Gabe too. I ain't bettin on nobody that can't even spell their own name correctly (Silver).

Duog
( I mean.......SHEESH ! what next ) :)

Right now Sylver is playing absoloutely jam-up pool. He was plowing thru both the mini and main 1 pocket tournaments at Hollywood Billiards. IIRC he took 2nd place in both of them.

I still think Gabe is the slight favorite, but he is gonna have his hands full.

Your right, and he just won the fast eddies tour stop in austin, the one gabe walked out of if im not mistaken. Hes shootin good right now. If he likes his chances without a spot theres a reason.

Something feels funny about this one. And not that way. Sylver has gained a lot of confidence in his game lately, and for good reason. He's playing great right now. His game has jumped a full speed in the last six months.

Whether that's good enough to handle a player like Gabe is another question. IMO Gabe is one of the best One Pocket players alive today. Right there with Cliff, T-Rex, Alex, Jeremy and Scott. He might even be the favorite.

What it comes down to is who is in the best stroke right now. My pick is that if Gabe is playing his normal speed for the last two years, he is the slight favorite. Sylver has the game to make it close, but Gabe still moves a little more consistently, and can run balls better than anyone this side of Reyes.

I would take Gabe based on the premise he will make fewer errors and capitalize the most on his opponents mistakes. As far as pocketing balls, Sylver can fire them in from all angles, banks included. But that's not what wins One Pocket matches.

Final score: Gabe 8, Sylver 6.

I have a video of Sylver beating a guy 3-0 playing 1-pocket. The entire match is only 21 minutes long. The man has got game.
