I think there a coouple of guys already recording this.
I'm going on recored as liking Gabe to win 2 sets. He is going to have to play though. Plus, the table is a tight and tricky gold crown that rollss about like the Mississippi River.
SJDinPHX said:Hey Ironman, Is that the same room my old friend Frank Rodrigues used to own ?
Is any of his family still involved in it ? Just curious, I loved the guy.
Whats the connection that it bears his nick-name ? I'm sure you know Redbird. He has sent me some neat pic's and videos from the old days. I sure made a lot of good friends in Texas. You probably would have been another but I see you are about a generation too young. Lucky dog!

ironman said:You got it. Frank {Banana's} had no family to leave the place with so he left it with Ida and Julie who have been there since the big flood. They carry on, but, the place misses Bananas who as you know was a pretty darn goodd 1 pocket player. He passed in about 02.
I know Redbird real well.
Another of your old buddies says to tell you hello. Charlie Brown. He is a good friend and a great guy. He still lives in Henderson, up by Tyler and is doing well.
His wife passed on a couple of years ago and though it was very tough on Charlie, he seems to be doing quite well. He speaks of you quite fondly.
Yep I'm 56 years old and getting older every day, but got out early enough to know quite a few of the elders. I'm sure you would recognize me if you saw me. We played some back in the 70's, in Denver at the old Family Fun Center and it didn't take you long to send me packing.
Best regards.

SJDinPHX said:Thanks for the update Butch. Yes I knew Dorothy (Charlies wife) had passed. She and my wife were email buddies. She was a sweetheart. It's good to hear Charlie is doing O.K. I'll bet he's still King of the calcutta buyers eh. Will PM you my Ph.# maybe we can chat sometime.
Thanks again,
Dick
Thanks, but no thanks. I like Sylver getting to 6, not 7. Ill def bet with you in the future.SJDinPHX said:We're close Charlie. You overlooked a key word. I said MORE than 6 games for Sylver ( you are to smart for me)![]()
How's this sound. I'll take the $100 to $70 you offered, But I say he won't reach 7 games. If he makes it to 6 (and loses) it's a push. Of course he may just win it outright, in which case I would lose for sure.
Gabe is a notoriusly slow starter. :boring2:

PS obviously we'd be betting on the first set ONLY. Addl. sets would be subject to renegotiation. PayPal next day is perfect.
usakr said:I talked to him on the way up to San Antonio and I told him I was reading the threads and that Gabe was the favorite. He understood perfectly, then he said He was still going to beat him.
usakr said:I told him that because I know he likes to rise up for the challenge. You misunderstood what I said. He is a very good friend of mine. I taught him how to play onepocket. Well let me clarify that. I taught him the rules and the first game of onepocket he played was with me. He was about 15 yrs old. So believe me I was encouriging him and I would really like to see him be the best onepocket player out there.

Poolplaya9 said:This was a really good match as has already been mentioned. I was not able to record it because the footage is being used by "JoeSaints" as a companion disk to his "The Pool Hall Master" movie. Unfortunate for me but understandable. The match will make for a good video when it comes out though, and it was a closer match than the final score
You are right, this was closer than the score indicates. The killer for Sylver came when he left Gabe on the end rail with the score 5-5- and dhe found that dead 6 ball. Personally, I didn't think it would go, but Gabe wrped that ball in and ran about 4 other balls. Sylver was in one trap after another following that shot.
Sylver faded a lot of the heat Gabe put on him, but at the end it was just more than he could bear. I was surprised at how few times either got out, but, that tough table came into play quite a bit. Gabe couldn't make a short bank to save his back side and had far more oppritunities than he should have. If he makes a couple of those, it may have been over with more quickly. Sylver recognized he was struggling with them though.

This is Joe Santos, the writer, producer, and director of "The Pool Hall Master" movie coming out in September. You're right, it was a very long 8 hour match that showed great talent from both players. This game between Gabe and Sylver will be the second DVD that will accompany the movie DVD. This game will be shown in its entirety and will commentated by both players. This will give the players out there, both new to one pocket and experienced players, just what was going on in their thinking while executing these selected shots. Viewers of this DVD will see the strategies and executions of their selected shots. You can now be the judge as to whether that was the winning strategy or not and if you would have made a different selection.
I really enjoyed the match and I'm sure there will be another.
