GAG order on WPBA players?!?!

PS:I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of the WPA ladies in the open tournaments.

I hope the ladies get to play in the US Open by next year. I'd like to see some of them in action with the top men players. I think it will be very interesting.

In the beginning the PCN guy blogs:

"Rumor has it that el presidente has issued a gag order to the players, telling them that they are not allowed to talk to bloggers or post on the boards."

That means (in part) our beloved Sarah's, Robin's, Melissa's, et al can't even post on AZ Billiards! (I believe they are all WPBA members).

Anyway, like I said, that's preposterous and I'm skeptical at this point.

I saw him post the "rumor". I just didn't see any post where the prez actually said it.

Thanks

Kevin

I read the blog which Superstar (whoever that is) and this thread. I do not see and have not seen anywhere that substantiates this rumor.

That is why we are patiently waiting for someone to chime in. Either to dispute it or confirm it.

I know John personally and have met with him a few times. He is a very smart guy who really cares about the ladies and the WPBA. He is trying to do things differently and put life back into a tour which is in a bit of a jam. I do not think we should be bad mouthing the guy, he is a new President and is going to make changes, some stuff will not be agreed upon and others will. Not even sure that this rumor is even true yet, we will see and I am sure John will not be bashful and will explain why he wants this if it is true.

I think as far as the media stuff goes I wish they would give ESPN the fu#%ing boot because that is a horrible deal for the tour IMO. John is an intelligent guy and a guy who knows business, not just a lover of pool or a player, this guy has all the tools to make the tour better then it ever has been. The tour needs a business guy going out there and getting sponsors and money because most pool players are not going to make it happen. Good luck John with what your doing, I know your heart is in the right place and your making personal sacrifices to make the tour successful.

So does that mean that despite his business prowess, that you would AGREE to a gag order to the players?
I wonder what would be considerate punishment for opening ones mouth, sanctions of some sort?

What did Jasmin get in trouble for when she played in that tournament?
2 or 3 tournaments?
2 or 3 tournaments seems to be the entire 2010 season.
If it is true, and sanctions have been dangled in front of the players faces, seems that missing an entire season is a pretty big threat for some.

I say we wait until John speaks on this which I am sure he will, you do not even know it is true so what your doing here is just a rumor and really in poor taste. It would be like me putting it out there that I heard that you did this or that without any facts to back it up but just rumor. Who told you this?, I am sure you wont tell us that so basically its just a rumor then.

This is the precise reason that we have open forums.
To discuss things.

Why is it that we aren't ever supposed to discuss anything potentially negative, and instead, discuss only the positive things that make the pool industry look squeaky clean?
That's not how the pool industry is, and you know it.

There are two things that can come from discussing this.

If it's true, and he is putting restrictions on the girls from opening their mouths, on multiple platforms, that is a little bit on the oppressive side, and John can be called a power hungry dictator. I don't care HOW well he runs the WPBA.

If it is wrong, then we can safely discredit the blog that it came from as false, and never take it seriously again.

But keeping quiet on it is not an option.
Considering that we have several WPBA professional females that post on this forum, all it takes is just one to come on and say that it is not true and that would be the end of it.

So far the silence is deafening.

Did it ever occur to you that whoever writes that blog, might actually know someone in the WPBA?
If that is the case, and if it is in fact true, then they WOULDN'T be able to tell you who might have tipped them off, without potentially jeopardizing that persons career and potential earnings on the WPBA.

Weighing that possibility as a factor, and if the girls indeed have officially been silenced, how are they supposed to speak out against this if everything they might say, threatens their future on tour?

So at this time it is nothing but inuendo being propagated on this forum by you using your blog to back up said rumor. Why should anyone have to confirm or deny something with no weight behind it to begin with...that is nothing but espousing baseless tabloid mentality dirt to stir up dissention.

Hey now! Don't try and saddle poor Superstar with being responsible for the PCN blog. That's just plain old mean. Whoever does write that blog though, man is he a jerk. And he doesn't know a thing about what's going on.

Come on blonde(?) Sparticus! Lead us in a boycott!

Interesting that you seem to think that the blog in question is mine.
Sorry to say that you are wrong.

But going along with what you say, there have been many times where someone said something about the WPBA, and the girls immediately have come on, and voiced their opinions on it.

Why is that not happening here?

Someone brings up a possible controversial issue and all of a sudden, they should be censored?

It's a simple matter of looking for answers.
Why is looking for answers so wrong? Because people might have met this person and don't like anything that might be negative that is said about them?
Sorry, i don't work that way.

I am waiting for answers just like everyone else.
Sorry if the topic rubs you the wrong way, but i am not concerned with who gets upset or not. I am only concerned with finding out the truth.

How would you feel if what has been said, is CORRECT?
Are you going to have an opinion about it?

As for said rumor. If it is wrong, then well, it is wrong. Simple as that.
But if it is correct?

Well, if it is correct, one has to wonder. Why would the president issue some type of gag?
Maybe, and this is stretching it a little bit cause honestly i have no clue if it is accurate or not, but maybe, the president and the board are sick and tired of their secrets being blasted all over the place by bloggers who have friends in high places and WPBA members who might think what they are saying is harmless in the forums, when in reality, the board doesn't want ANY info leaked.
Considering that the WPBA has taken a pounding in the forums this year with everyone having an opinion about everyone involved in running the tour, it kind of makes sense if they got tired of certain info coming to light.

Hopefully we will find out the truth.
If you would rather stay in the dark about it, by all means.

Good pooint. I made a comment a few weeks ago about the WPBA contract with ESPN and I think it was Melissa who very quickly told me I was wrong. (She never returned to the thread to explain how I was wrong, but that is neither here nor there)

You can't deny that it would appear from the limited tour schedule, that there is something wrong at the WPBA. If there is no communication from them, speculation is going to continue. It would be pretty simple for them to put an end to the speculation.

I mean, giving the girls benefit of the doubt, they are all migrating to San Diego for the tournament there this week.
So they might be busy with flying, driving, and getting settled in, not to mention the pro am and players meeting.

But if a couple of days go by without a single member coming on and chiming in, i think we can safely assume the worst.
