GAG order on WPBA players?!?!

This is a pretty wild accusation, i must say.
I wonder if it is true?
Then again, if it is, i wonder if they are allowed to talk about it. LOL

Well, I heard the craziest sh!t that I just have to write about. Rumor has it that el presidente has issued a gag order to the players, telling them that they are not allowed to talk to bloggers or post on the boards. If this is true, the WPBA has some serious balls thinking they can tell the players on the tour who they are allowed to talk to, especially considering that there is all of one, count ‘em one, Classic Tour stop and that their president is a regular commenter and poster on both blogs and forums.

If you all are wondering why el presidente doesn’t seem to care for me or my blog, here’s the reason. The Rousseau/PCN Guy situation started out with a reachout by Rousseau to me saying that he wanted “to know everybody with an opinion, voice and audience; sense of humor too.” He even started commenting on my blog posts attempting to be humorous (I assume) by calling me a weirdo. No big, I’ve been called worse. The proverbial poopoo hit the oscillating fan at the beginning of the year once he took office as president.

36 hours after being elected president (by his count anyway), I got a note suggesting that I am not a real fan of the WPBA and that I use my blog only as a positive PR device for the WPBA. He also wanted to know who I am. You all know me and know that my purpose for this blog is to tell it like it is, not to drum up pub for myself. Seriously, if anything I think I’m already a pretty positive mouthpiece for the WPBA (with the exception of the past couple months anyway). Maybe the APA issued the gag order. After all they made the WPBA take a name (M.G.) off the ballot after being nominated becaused the APA threatened to end their sponsorship if they didnt. Sounds like the tails wagging the dog over there at the WPBA

If true, this is what's called, in the PR world, taking a big fat high caliber gun (mit a slug round in the chamber) and putting it right up against either one of your big toes, and pulling the trigger.

Once again, if so, their next move will determine whether they've chosen to take out the udder toe too

This all sounds very foreign to me, I was on the board my share of times. And we had by-laws that we had to go by, times are really tough. The WPBA is feeling the crunch for sure.

Something stinks here. The WPBA is not a court of law and the President is not a judge. These are individuals who happen to play pool, and also participate a few weeks a year in WPBA events. You can't put a muzzle on them because they are pool players. If true, they should rise up as a group and denounce this policy. That is if they have any self respect.

I'll be in San Diego this weekend. Wonder what kind of welcome I'll receive. One more interesting note about the WPBA tour stop at the Viejas Casino. They are issuing NO passes to the media. We've got to pay to get in and cover their event, and provide them with free publicity. This is almost as bad as what the past Commissioner of the Women's PGA did a couple of years ago when she restricted access to the media for the women's golf tourneys.

This is a ship going down, if they don't do something quickly to right it.

If this "mandate" is in fact true, it seems not only preposterious to make and enforce, but also guaranteed to be ridiculously unpopular.

Media members have to pay?! WTF?!:angry: Jay, I agree with you wholeheartedly. The WPBA is not doing itself any favors trying to keep a lid on things and should instead be as open as possible with the public.

Maybe, just maybe, the WPBA is learning that relying on casinos to give away free money was a bad business plan & now they're trying to formulate Plan B.

I find this VERY disturbing. EVERY year I have trouble getting into the event at Viejas. SOMEONE just fails to understand that PR and free publicity are the lifeline of the business, and that helping us (the media - writers, and photographers) helps them in turn. I point no fingers in blame, just voice my frustration.

I guess I didn't read right. I couldn't find where the new prez said the players couldn't blog etc. I remember this guy he used to post on AZ.

In the beginning the PCN guy blogs:

"Rumor has it that el presidente has issued a gag order to the players, telling them that they are not allowed to talk to bloggers or post on the boards."

That means (in part) our beloved Sarah's, Robin's, Melissa's, et al can't even post on AZ Billiards! (I believe they are all WPBA members).

Anyway, like I said, that's preposterous and I'm skeptical at this point.
