Galveston BIG MONEY TOURNAMENT

Is it a reasonable expectation to get 75 companies to pay $1000 - $1500 for the vendor area? (Plus expenses!)

Yes, the advertised price of booths at the Super Billiards Expo in Valley Forge is also $1000 per space and I am sure they have 75 vendors.

IF, and right now that is a big IF, they can answer all these questions/doubts from the players and they can draw a big enough field of players, 75 vendors is not out of the question...maybe a bit ambitious for the first year but it's certainly done in other locations.

Danger

These are dangerous times for anyone trying to make money in any endeavour related to pool. The current environment is one of increased competition in a shrinking market.

The upside is: It won't stay this way forever.

Christina,

You are right!

Actually, the SBE has close to double that many vendor booths. I don't know if they have been able to fill all those from the start, but I know they sell most of them each year.

If the World Classic in Galveston can achieve the status of the Super Billiards Expo, then I am sure that filling 75 booths will be easy. If I could waive a magic wand and make it happen, I would have already done so. But, like anything that is truly worth doing, it takes hard work determination and effort to make it happen. As soon as the powers that be for this event start to answer some of these tough questions they will be on the right track to making that happen.

Again, I offer The World Classic any assistance I can give. Just call me!

I heard on the rumor mill from a prior BCA board member that attendee numbers for this years trade show were a concern.

island drive,

That is true, the attendance of vendors is expected to be low. However, I will be there, and from what I pick up on, there will be plenty of buyers there. I hope to have a great show!

I think the only places that gets close to 75 vendors is SBE, BCAPL and Valley Nationals. The three largest pool events in the world. Nowhere else is even close. I know that as a vendor I wouldn't put up the $3000-$4000 to attend with the level of information that has been released right now.

If they get 20 paid vendors I think they will be doing well. Hopefully I am wrong and they pack the place. I would be interested to see a list of paid vendors as of today. It would help firm up some questions about the event.

Anyone ever get any answers out of these guys? I know one poster spoke directly to them but it didnt sound like they actually said anything.

On their website you can look at how many booths are taken already by clicking the "pay registration fees" button. It shows which booths have been taken up to this point. At the time I write this, there are ten booths already taken.

It does not necessarily prove that they were paid for already and might be taken by the promoters themselves, but I think some of them have been paid for, just my opinion.

hope this helps a little.

The funny thing is, I can be there fairly inexpensively. I have numerous relatives and friends close to Galveston as I grew up in Pearland 30 miles North of there. I even have an old friend that lives on the island who has invited me down in the past.

However, I can't afford to spend a week somewhere out of the office and shop if I don't at least believe I can turn a reasonable profit.

Right now, I am not sure the players will be there to play much less any spectators.

I hope the promoters step up soon and clear these questions!

The word on the street is that some large advertisements will be appearing soon and some top players are already signed up to play. It is a start.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. I hope the promoters choose their course of action carefully. Their timely words or lack of words will be pinned to their tournament's success or failure.

Wow, no more news! :frown:

Joey, when I spoke to Clark he mentioned advertising that was coming out in the magazines, and also on here with a banner ad. He named a few players that they have contracted with to use their images and names in the ads to encourage other players to come out.

My fear is that they expect those players to recruit other pro players to come out, but I am afraid they either won't do that, or they won't be very good at it.

Without answers to some of the questions posted here, I think they are going to have a tough go of it!

I am still hoping!

For the record, it has been my experience that competitors do not make the best of advertisers, especially for pool tournaments. There is very little communication between the top players as a whole.

Hopefully, we will see additional information coming from the promoters and answers coming forth soon. It is still 5 months away. I have hope for answers to come in enough time for players and stake horses to make their plans.

They would do well answering some of the questions rather than waiting until every single question is addressed. This is a big undertaking and I don't envy all of the things that they will have to do to make this event successful.

I am jazzed and can only be excited for Galveston, TX and the pool world.

That being said, we humbly await a response to these questions.

I have not read through the whole thread but I dont understand why the promoters would not join az and communicate directly with there target audience

It is possible that they do not have the answers to all of the questions posed in this forum at this time.

I would hope that they would answer the ones that they do have the answers to but everyone on this forum should keep in mind that while this Main Forum is an excellent communication vehicle to the pool world, not all of the pool world understands how this Main Forum communicates or how well it does. Some people that are heavily involved with pool do not even know of its existence.

There is a lot at stake and the promoters should be careful about what they write but just as importantly, they should be concerned about the amount of time that is lapsing.

JoeyA

Well, that's true Joey.

But, Clark mentioned that he was aware of AZ Billiards and the forums. I told him that there was a thread here and that he needed to look at it as soon as possible.

Also, you have to consider that the promoters of this event just believe like so many others that if they put up the money then everyone will be there. And that is just not the case.

I am still hoping, but I am not holding my breath. :frown:

First off!!!!

I do hope this goes according to plan.......What baffles my mind is some really big names in the pool world are asking simple questions about this event, and some newbies on the forum (not saying they are new to pool though) are bashing them for asking questions...were talking basically spectators to this even are questioning the players why in the world they are asking questions about this event......that just cracks me up......Oh to be full of piss and vinegar again

In all seriousness, I do home this goes off as planned...I plan on attending and would love to be a part of this!

exactly!

Joey,

Your post is spot on. AZB isn't the whole pool world by any means but it is definitely a place to check the pulse of the pool world. I very much hope the Galveston event is a success since it would be the closest big event to us.

I am concerned with the apparent state of preparations with September rushing at us. As has been mentioned, many people need to be making trip arrangements including vacation scheduling now. Without having a detailed schedule of events that is impossible.

I'm planning at least a fast in and out trip to Galveston. Hopefully it will be a great success and I will find a bunch of people I would like to meet there.

I don't mean this disrespectful in anyway to the promoters or anyone! But, I am getting the opinion that the promoter have a bit of arrogance in them. I see allot of concern from people that's in this business trying to help get this rolling and they have not responded to anyone.

From the first post that I seen on 3-19-09 about this event names like Jay Helfert, RCB, randrg, and JoeyA just to list a few offering their help.

This is why I say a bit of arrogance, that this is my baby and I don't want anyone else involved. I don't care if they are billionaires, it doesn't mean a thing if you don't know how to proceed with a little help.

Unless this is a success (I sure hope it is successful) this has just been another dream for the pool world.

I wish them the best of luck!

Papa,
We have to give wide latitude to these promoters and calling them billionaires is a little over the top. This is their promotion and they have a lot of their plate.

Yes, they are getting some VERY GOOD SUGGESTIONS and I want them to know that everyone of these people in this thread are very supportive of their efforts to bring this great event to fruition.

From time to time over the years, those of us who have been part of the pool scene have seen tournament events as well as tours go up in smoke and we simply want the best for this one.

The promoters have already drawn up some great designs, now they have to fill in the blanks.

They have been cautioned about the problems of delaying or not answering the questions in this thread and it is really all left up to them as to where they go from here.

I think I can speak for everyone in this thread and that if the promoters wish to have OFFLINE conversations with any of us, in private, we are available and willing. All they have to do is send us a PM (Private Message) on this forum to get our attention. Of course, they could post in the thread but it wouldn't be all that private.
