Rumor has it, from the ever famous usual reliable but unnamable source, that the Galveston World Classic will be issuing a press release on their site. Should be up later tonight. I believe they are trying to get it posted now.

It is good news for the promoters which means it should be good news for all of us. Having been sworn to secrecy on my Eagle Scout medal* I can say no more.

Too much anticipation for this event. I believe we should let things flow on their own. When the info comes up, we can all participate in a discussion if necessary.
 
Goes to show you how big pool is in the Asian market. They can't get enough of it over there. More power to the IPT if they can make this happen. Wow, I never thought I'd say that! This deal is worth MONEY to them. If the Taylor Road bunch is smart they will get some money added for the television rights. Of course they could also pocket it. :rolleyes:

On the surface, it looks to me like the Taylor Road people simply bought access to 40M Asian viewers from the IPT. It does make me wonder whether or not the IPT people were affiliated with Taylor Rd. from the beginning.

Regardless, if this event is even modestly successful, it'll raise the bar for pool events, sponsorship, and pool broadcasting.

Sounds like the IPT was in an agreement to provide ESPN Star with match content. This probably works towards getting them off the hook with Star.
11 hours means they'll only be airing the finals in asia.

Have they made any announcements about how the streaming will work yet?

If I am understanding correctly the IPT already had a deal to provide the programming for x hours of TV time and hasn't been able to provide it. Galveston World Classic seems to have stepped in to provide 11 hours of the programming that the IPT couldn't provide.

I have zero information concerning the financial end of things between the GWC, the IPT, and ESPN Star. Hopefully this is where the Galveston group recoups a bunch of their expenses and guaranteed monies. That is how I read it, I may be off base though. Although the people putting on the event may be willing to lose a little money once or twice I don't expect them or anyone else to take huge losses over and over so I very much want to see the promoters make a buck too.

As for connections between the IPT and Galveston World Classic, I hope and think that this is the only one. As far as I know there is absolutely no IPT involvement with the Galveston event.

The IPT is not affiliated with Taylor Road Productions and has never been.

The idea to ask the IPT to share some of their Asian broadcasting hours was the brain-child of one of TRP's consultants (but who isn't employed by the IPT) but apparently knows the industry and knew that this might work.

IPT to their credit had to see this as an opportunity to improve their image and to make a positive contribution to the efforts of some people who are trying to do good things for the industry.

Hopefully, the amateurs and professional pool players and the rest of the people in the pool industry will see this as something positive and get on board.

As long as they don't let KT hold any escrow money, who cares broadcasts the event.....although I think that a choice other than the IPT would have been better.

This all defaults to one of the rules of money owed (even though I believe the IPT has paid in full) - all debts are voided and forgotten after a 2 year time period.

I heard of a super strong 5 man team tonight for the Galveston event. I don't see how they could be beat.

A song I always listen to in full when it comes on

Galveston is a song that I'll pause in what I am doing to listen to in full when it comes on. Great song. I listen to Rhinestone Cowboy for another reason. A good song too but it always makes me grin. Glen was talking about his relationship troubles and he said he knew one marriage was over when his wife asked him if he was really going to cut "that silly cowboy song."
