Gambling and Feds and the Internet

I got word from someone I know here for a couple years there is a Fed among us, mostly on streams.

I have never seen a bust in pool for gambling except for one time in a Nv restricted licenced 15 video poker machine pool room. Gaming(the gambling police in Vegas) came in and saw something they didnt like and gave a stern warning to the owner, he kept his licence and video poker machines.

But now there appears to be a Fed agent of some sort sniffing around, I wont say his name, but its clever and none of us would expect it. It makes sense because he will be able to blend in and get information. Perhaps its a rumor, or a investigation that might amount to nothing.

We all should be careful about what we say in streams or what we do. I cant imagine anyone getting in trouble for betting $50. Or the players getting into trouble, but higher up the food chain they might not like whats going on. We been doing this(pool action/tournaments/etc), Long before I was born, but if you never walked into a pool room or spent less than a week there; you might never notice whats been going on forever.

Like Ames in the Hustler, that place was its own world-men spent their whole life's in rooms like that and still do-its changed some. I realize thats fiction in that movie but pool is a life style and livelihood for people and people on the outside (squares) are never aware of it. The internet has put that private world infront of everyone's face. And even worse explained it, the commentary on the streams is damning evidence. I'm not knocking streams, hell I love them and its fun to hear commentary about more than just the just the game being played, but hearing the war stories of days gone past. But that educates the Feds and could perhaps cause problems. I hope it never does.

When I started playing in 85 and watching races to 11 for $300-$500 on the weekends, it took me a year to learn about action, matching up, spots, etc. Now within a month I could learn what used to take a year or two to learn. My point is simple, ignorance is bliss, if someone isnt aware of whats going on they wont bother it. Now that its fast and easy to learn about action we are waking up the sleeping dog. Never kick a sleeping dog they are harmless, a few years ago people would drive past a pool room going to work everyday never knowing whats really going on in them, they think they are bars with more tables. Now dog the might be woke up.

We all have the same version of the internet, if you can see it so can the Fed's can too and perhaps a little more. They might be seeing this world for the first time. Guys on commentary talking about betting $20K on this or that, "Or so and so just beat this guy for $10K 8/6 last week." "And next week if this guy gives that guy the 7 they will post up $50K" We know its 99% talk and 1% action, but look it from a Feds uneducated point of view. they might think all the woofing is going to end up being games. If that was true all woofing becomes action they would think there are millions being bet on pool weekly and THAT WOULD start the ball of a big investigation going. Their name says it all FBI "Federal Bureau of Investigation", they investigate everything. And the internet has taken a private world and put it in a glass house(not just pool).

I just hope if they are sniffing around they decide that pool isnt worth bothering with and busting 2000 players would be too big of job for the sizes of crimes being committed. Primarily illegal gambling.

I hope the rumor I heard is wrong and they leave us alone, pool has never harmed anyone.

I just wanted to caution everyone, if we are under the microscope we need to be careful, thats all. Hopefully i'm 1000% wrong and were not on the radar and the rumor I heard is just that.

as long as nobody here is booking action, i doubt there would be an issue. feds dont go after gamblers, they go after the bookies...

I honestly think the Feds as you say have ZERO Against Internet Gaming/Gambling. But they want their Cut of the PIE.

Many this have been outlawed by Local, County, State & Federal LAW. Then they become LEGAL, and Locals, Counties, States & Feds, find a way to get there CUT, and all is fine. JMHO.

One only need look to all the States that RUN Lotteries to see the truth in my statement.

I'd think/hope they would need to see the transfer of $ in the act to bust someone. Good wake-up post for those that like to flash the cash. You never know who's watching.

I must admit that when I first started cruising these forums, I wondered about how open all this gambling discussion was.

Of course since I'm not a gambler of any substance, I have no experience in this area.

It will be interesting to watch.

Be careful, folks.

25 posts to see the action room and now this. hmm...

that makes no sence to me, anyone can make 25 posts and go un noticed, just tell everyone their cue looks good or bump a few sales threads and nobody would notice anything funny about the posts, now lock out people with 1000 posts. it would hard to make 1000 phony posts,

I just got the txt last night and made this thread today, its not related to AZB, and I know lots about staying out of trouble, AZB is 100% safe, theyt are not promoting or booking action. they would be a witness if anything ever went down.

My point of this thread is just be careful thats all, nothing more/less. Know who your talking too

Bruce,

I agree with your sentiment. It is all about tax revenue. In New York State, the Native Americans originally were the only ones allowed to operate gaming establishments. Once the State saw how much revenue was being generated, suddenly all the horse racing tracks are now full line casinos. Table games and all! Didn't take the State long. How about Arizona?

So do you have a name or a screen name of who we should be watching out for?

Telling on your friend who stole a bag of chips isn't the right thing to do but telling your friend that a pig is watching and/or investigating him and telling him who the pig is, that is the right thing to do.

Now Man-Up and stick to the code of honor among thieves and tell us who it is.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit considering the high stakes 1p Dippy has been playing lately. When I see posts about Dippy supposedly playing for a half million I am quite sure that I am not the only dope that has taken notice of it.

I said this same thing to an old timer in the pool hall, he told me Johnston City was ended by a raid by the feds, they came in a took everyone's cash. Does anyone know if this is true?

Listen man, dont tell me to man up. I'm the last person you need to say that too.

secondly if I dont have all the facts I aint saying shit based on a rumor, thats kid shit.

However because of the source there is some credibility to it, so I just recommended that people be careful with what they say. nothing more nothing less.

If you dont have all the facts on something never run your mouth, thats what you need to learn, read myu post again and educate your self.

GREAT POST,everybody says how good dippy is for pool, well he just mite be the one bringing the heat on,if there is any?

Yes,that was true. That was the time Minnesota fats told the judge that if he cuts the bodies of the pool player and put it under microscope, all they will find is hotdog meat and coffee and pool players are harmless people.later the members of the grand jury rushed to fats to get his autograph. This is what I read from (?) Buddy hall`s book.

I still think Dippy is good for pool. Gambling breeds gambling and when high stakes like that are being played it brings people in to either get a game of their own, or watch it all unfold. Either way they are walking into a pool hall and that is good for pool imho.

In all seriousness what the h*** did everyone expect. AZ isn't exactly an unheard of site. Gambling in the open has been running rampant here for a loooong time. And if the feds want to catch anyone I am sure paypal would be happy to give them transaction records, actually would have no choice if they were made to do so. It's just a game until someone gets an eye poked out. :D
