You got a game to which you have the advantage and are about to play.
Then a railbird tells your opponent that he has not a very good chance.
Your opponent starts asking for all kinds of weight and pretty much you lose your fish.
Do you think it is proper for someone to stick thier 2 cents in if they have nothing to do with the bet?

That is what we used to call a "knocker". Being a knocker could cost you a few teeth in the old days. Nowadays it might cost you more.

It sounds like dirty pool to me...

You ought to show up at whever the railbird works, and tell his boss that he likes kiddie porn....if he's gonna mess with your money, you should mess with his :D

Oh, and if you truly had the fishy over a barrel, it's called robbing, not gambling ;)

Also, your avatar and picture are misleading, unless you've got some type of crying game thing going on....

It's proper if they care about the person you're about to stick up.

Don't sweat it. It's part of the pool world. Someday, a railbird may save your backside/wallet.

If it is my friend about to be taken, I will worn him/her. If it is a stranger it's none of my business.

It would be like a bystander at a poker game telling your opponent that you have the nuts after the river... and how right would that be!!!

actually it might be more like someone sitting at a poker table and someone tells them their opponent is much more experienced and maybe they should ask to always play position. Its not like pool skill is something people are not suppose to see (like which cards I hold), its just someone you try to keep hidden. So I wouldn't call it blatant cheating, like your analogy would

Ditto! I would do the same.

I like what Buddy Hall said on the actionreport.com pod cast. The cell phone is the greatest knock tool ever invented :)

Guess it all depends on if it is truly gambling or just being a pool predator.

If they are a friend or someone you care about, they should be warned.

Chances are if the situation was reversed you would be posting why no one warned you that the guy was going to rob you.

True gambling means that both parties have an equal shot at winning. If you are just there to take advantage of someone the moral high ground has already been forfeited. You reap what you sew type of thing.
Karma is a good thing in this world.

Equal? Karma? Take Advantage? Pool Predator?

Please, spare me.

Maybe someone should have pulled Dennis's shirtail and told him he couldn't beat Cory at 1P. Seems thats what most of the pool detectives think, hell so did I.

These threads are amazing to me. People complain about a lack of action, but then say they would warn their "friends" if they thought they couldn't/shouldn't win. That is total BS.

Those people are knockers as Jay called them. They ruin any chance of action, because they think they know how people play, and have alot of friends.

There are very few people that can handicap a game of pool that well. Any there is seldom, if ever, a time when each player has an equal chance. One player is almost always a least a little better, if only on that day.

Example, I play you today, you are a better player. I play exceptionally well and your a little off, I win. The next day I play someone more closer to my speed and the local railbird runs up and tells them I beat you yesterday and they need weight. When, in fact, its a close game.

Everyone uses this "friend" "care" BS, to try and show how smart they are by telling people whether they can win or lose. Really they are just showing how stupid they are by killing any chance for either player to have a good day.

This thread was not about road players or pros, just about someone who felt they had an advantage playing someone else, LIKE ANYONE THAT PLAYS SOMEONE FOR CASH! The poster might have lost, but no one will know because some a$$hole on the rail killed the action.

Do you wonder why everyone talks about how there used to be so much more action "back in the day"? It partly because people then knew to keep their mouth shut when players were matching up, unless your moneys in the pot.

As Jay said, guys like this used to get a lesson. Too bad it doesn't happen much anymore, as there is clearly a bunch of people that need the lesson.

There are many ways to let on that a friend should not play somebody. In your case, you would allow your friend to play the guy, but you just wouldn't go in with him and you definitely wouldn't back (stake) him.

Each to his own. I would just directly tell my friend to get more weight or leave the guy alone. But that's just me. For some crazy reason, I value friends more than the big thrill I would get seeing them lose their A$$!

^ Probably one of the best posts I've read in a long time.

Also keep in mind that the knockers and pool detectives are bad from a pool hall business perspective as well. Lack of action in the pool hall = less revenue. When there's action, it attracts people to watch, hang out, and spend money. But when someone's action get's knocked, it's not just affecting the "knockee", it's also hurting the bottom line of the loacl pool hall.

In my opinion it has a bit to do with the size of the bet. If said friend is only going to lose a hundred or 2, then let em go. No better way to find out how you match up than to throw down and play. If hes tied up a few thousand he cant afford to lose and the game is way out of wack then yeah Ill let him know. But lucky for me my true friends arent pool players, all the pool players I know are aquaintences, so bet it up!

He's been banned twice under other names so he figured he would go with something a little more feminine.
