She or anyone else can bet all they want if I get the right spot.

Anybody else think this thread is kinda like Andy Kaufman offering to wrestle women? Before you start kicking me, I know Reid, and I know how good he can play. I just find this whole offer strange, there is a ton of action for Reid in a relatively short drive to the Southeast of Jackson, where he can get all he wants even, and maybe even get a ball.

It would be a more interesting discussion to evaluate what would happen to the women's game if they played all the men's pro events and gambled with them continuously. I do as much as I can but financialy it is too difficult to do that. We would also need 50 years to catch up to them. Remeber it was not very exceptable for women to even be in the pool room or play sports for that matter.
Monica-

Let me clarify, so you aren't confused. I have great respect for women pool players & they play superb. My 'argument' with someone like av84fun was that he can't understand the original premise of this thread was Reid wanting to give any women the 7. I don't think it was meant to be demeaning in anyway. But if someone like av84fun turns this thread around & states that the women of today can play equal with the men, he should be corrected. Heck, even you stated this is as correct.

I am confused on your reply above. How is it any more difficult today for a women financially to gamble continuously & play in men's pro events then a man? The 'cost' in doing so is the same. So you could see what would happen to the women's game very easily.

Take two young players like John Morra & Anna K. Why is John the 7 ball (at least) better than Anna K.? They are both young & a part of the current pool society & afforded the same opportunities to gamble & play in men's events. Nothing is holding Anna back. She can get all the action she wants, probably even more than a John Morra could at this point. She can play in both men's & women's tournaments.

Women pool players make more money on their tour, the men don't even have one. I would think endorsement wise - they make more too. Financially, that is not the issue. Hell Jeanette Lee had a whole day to herself on ESPN once. Has Johnny Archer? But if her & Johnny were to play, she might need the 5 ball. $$$ is not the issue.

I don't know about other cities but where I live, if you came, you could get action every night for a month. And to make av84fun happy, it wouldn't have to be for $10,000 a set.

Johnny Archer gave SVB the 7 out at the 2007 DCC??

anyone have the details on this? race? ahead? how much $$$?
I saw the match, it was an after hours match on the TV table. As I remember it they were playing by the game and they didn't play long because Johnny had a early match the next day.

I would like to see him make a list of everyone that he would play and how. Table, amount, game, etc. Then there should be action, and I doubt if there will be any waiting!!!!!!!!

It was 2006. I thought Johnny won.

I do like action. But to go to all the tournaments that you have to get 4th in to make any money I just can't go. I don't see how others do as well. As of right now the chances I would make money or break even just isn't enough. I could do it if I lived with my mom and no bills. I play in many around in my area, though. ESP Shannon's tournaments. Men have been playing at top levels with all the knowledge so much longer that it would take a while for women to really catch up and that is with them doing the road thing and going to most af the men tourn. My opinion. Over and out everybody, nice chattin but I have to go now. I have a hair appt. I really do.

I hope you have a great hair day! :D

The women are catching up faster than you think Ms. M. The top women of today could give the top women of 15 years ago the 7,8 & 9. Maybe more.

There are more good women players today than ever, by far! The top 15 or 20 on the WPBA Tour all play real good. And new ones are showing up all the time. I wouldn't be surprised to see a women emerge who can challenge any man. Jeanette and Karen have already had a lot of success against men in tournaments. And Jasmin might turn out to do even better than them. She looks plenty strong to me.

confused!

Not trying to be disrespectful, but what has kept you from playing better, what advantage does say SVB have over you? What advantage does a man have over a woman as far as progressing in the pool world? If anything don't you have more opportunity, because you can play in woman's and open events? And to go one further you can slide into some amateur events as well! Or at least some of the WPBA players do! One of your buddies, who is ranked in the top 25 on the WPBA, plays regularly on the Kings Bay "amateur" tour!
Basically i'm just asking in this day and age, why a woman can't pick up the game at the same rate as the men?(barring the break part of it)
No malice intended, just curious of your opinion.

Actually, I don't blame women for the war; while Lincoln probably deserves his share.

LOL! Lincoln took office about 30 days before Fort Sumter was fired upon. MAN he sure stirred up a LOT of trouble in a month!! (-: And during his campaign he GUARANTEED the southern states that he would do NOTHING to end slavery in their states

As for Weaver being opposed to feminism, I think his take on much of the attacks on the South, which continue until today, were spot on. The feminist attacks against traditional Southern society continue to this day. And by the way, Weaver's doctoral dissertation which was accepted by the University of Chicago (no conservative bastion, to be sure) that I mentioned earlier was no mere opinion or propaganda piece. It was fully documented and researched.

How do you know that? Have you read all the documents cited to in his footnotes? And the U. of Chicago is not a conservative bastion among major universities?? Are you KIDDING? It is one of the most conservative schools in America!!

From the Stanford Review (ANOTHER conservative university.)

Before writing this piece, I had assumed that The Stanford Review isn?t much better or worse than most moderate and conservative campus papers.

The University of Chicago can lay claim to one resource of which none of the other schools profiled can boast?-a daily campus paper whose editorial pages are relatively right-leaning.

Regarding the role the Southern ladies played in the conflict, it was his contention, backed up by serious analysis, that Southern ladies in particular were very jealous of their rights, and their social status in society, and with the growing encroachment of "Yankee industrialism" coming from the North, many saw an end to the respect due them, and were strongly opposed to it.

THEY HAD NO RIGHTS!!! NONE!!! ZIP!!! NADA!!!! And were WAS no "encroachment of Yankee industrialism" into the south. There was GROWTH in northern industrialism IN THE NORTH which shifted the balance of power to the North.

So if you wish to indict Weaver, why not indict Southern ladies of that time as well?

Because they had nothing to do with the conflict which was ENTIRELY based on the attempt to perpetuate the southern agricultural economy which, in turn, required the utilization of slave labor. Almost all wars are fought on grounds of religion, money or territory (a subset of the money issue).

The Civil War had nothing to do with religion or land...which leaves economics. And southern women...to the extent they were permitted formal education at all...were trained in the liberal arts and were ACTIVELY dissuaded from even DISCUSSING economics!

It's unfortunate, in my view, that Weaver never became Roman Catholic...

HUH???

This sub-thread is WAY off topic so we should probably continue...if at all...in PMs

These IPT events have been exhibitions with no monetary risk by the parties involved. You obviously don't understand gambling. Here, Mr. Pierce is making a very open challenge in hopes that one player will accept. Once this match is made, which is not likely, he will try to bet every $$$ he can. This will be done because the opportunity will not arise more than once. You see, it must be for alot of $$$ because it is a once and only opportunity (and probably not that).

Well, you don't seem to understand the difference between "exhibitions" and "matches." The IPT events are MATCHES...not exhibitions.

How do you know that he is looking for only "one match"? The challenge was issued to women (plural) in general.

How do you know that it would be a "once in a lifetime opportunity?"

I'm not saying you are wrong because I don't know one way or the other. But there is nothing in the OP that suggests a one time deal.

Certainly Monica you have free will to start your own thread and invite all comers to play you some. I will be on the lookout for this thread. I hope you get what you wish for. Reid, on the other hand, I don't think will have any women come & step up to the plate - no matter how old & past his prime he is.

First, Reid didn't challenge anyone. Hemi did. Second, Hemi didn't challenge "all comers"...he challenged women and only women.

How has he done gambling with Archer or Busta or Alex?

I have never been too shy to put myself in pecking order with the best players in the world. The men play awesome but the ones that, from no where, or constantly have to talk as if the women suck I think are trying to make up for their own shortcomings and lack of confidence. Grow up and get some Extensa and how about I just play you some instead of Reed Pierce.

THAT's the issue Monica. Good for you. Women don't go around dissing men and saying they suck. If they did, then maybe all this woman-woofing would make some sense. But they don't so it doesn't.

I have consistently objected to that sort of thing and have taken HUGE flak for doing so...but that's OK with me. I DESPISE bigotry in EVERY form and will oppose it so long as breath warms my body.

I have no desire to continue this unproductive back-and-forth with you. Suffice it to say, you could give Obama or Clinton or probably Mao the 4 ball in matters politic.

I wish you well.

You honestly don't have to have it at all. No one here disagrees that you are a great player, and no one here (I don't think) would accost you directly with the challenge. Good luck this year and if you are in AL sometime, I can get you some easy action.

That's just flat not true and you know it. TONS of posts in these threads have suggested that even Alli...with the greatest record in women's pool of all time...couldn't even finish in the money at DCC.

Others said that she would be robbed by 50 players in every state. (do the math).

Those comments DO NOT suggest that Monica is a "great player" so don't try to set the world land speed record...in reverse.

Admit bashing and dissing when it exists.

But Monica NAILED IT. Generally, men can beat women.

WHAT'S NEW???
.....WHO CARES??????
WHAT WOMAN IS SUGGESTING OTHERWISE???

Mr. Zero - really, your ability to dissect every word of every post is ridiculious. You have your comprehension, the rest of the world has theirs.

Obviously, Hemi was speaking on behalf of Reid. Hemi (a respected poster) certainly wouldn't post such a thread without Reid's knowledge.

More comprehension - Monica stated that she would step up and play the posters that she felt were being unfair to women. That was the reason I suggested she have a post to take on 'all comers' or whoever she felt the need to gamble with.

Reid wants to gamble with women, giving the 7. Can't get any more simple than this. You keep saying that women can play with the men - people with the opinion of yourself are probably the reason why Reid came up with this gambling notion. Unfortunately, people like you have no heart to put a woman that finished top 20 @ DCC in the box. Funny thing is - two women pros have come on here & stated that they cannot compete with the men at this time. They have taken any post that you have made in this thread & turned it to dust (please don't tell me that you can't find the dust, that is just a figure of speech).

Please, have a valid argument. Dissecting posts ad nausea is getting old & weak. Try to stay on subject for at least 6 seconds.
