Giving advice to a dumb ass.

A few weeks ago at APA Masters I escaped every safety i faced and either safed my opponent back or kicked the ball in. So afterwards a guy asked me some advice on kicks so I started showing him some 2 and 3 rails methods for hitting balls. So the whole time i am showing him this stuff he is standing there telling me why it won't work.

This guy isn't a high enough level to carry my cue case, asks my advice then tells me why it won't work. I wanted to punch him in the face but I resisted.
People are amazing.

You showed amazing restraint. Maybe tell him, "Yea, I suppose you're right, you have to have talent to get this to work"

No surprise. All too often, dumb asses idea of listening is having their mouth muscles engaged and their ear muscles turned off.

Not in billiards but in other areas, I've faced the same. I make sure I hit it quickly, after the first or second comment like that. And it's always the same, the way I approach it. "If you're so sure you know it so well, why are you asking me? You can either listen, or I'm stopping talking." Works 100% of the time, whether he listens or walks away pissed off.

Have you ever taken psychology?

I'm not trying to sound like a smart-ass ,but ppl do this all the time. They do this b/c they actually admire what you do/did and want to feel some of that glory themselves, so they "Kick" (pardo the pun :D ) it back to the only ppl they think will appreciate it. I have had others do this to me in other aspects of life, but not pool. :p

You should take it as a compliment, they are trying to mim,..... mimmi,.... mimmick,,,,, ah heck ,..... be like you ! <---- sound familiar?

If you can kick 2+ rails and make a good percentage of them, .you are a MUCH better shooter than me !

tips

I installed a sniper tip for a guy he said he wanted shaped just like i shape my tip. so i replace the tip and shaped it like mine.
I met him at the pool hall . he like the way the tip played but he said it was alittle round and wanted me to make it flater . so I sanded alittle off the top .
then he said he wanted a new tip put on because I had sanded to much off the tip.

I took my pocket knife out and cut the tip off and handed his shaft and his money back .

Unfortunately APA doesn't have a no douchebag rule.

Hello Mike,
Perfect method to handle people like that! If people treated you like they wanted to be treated there would be no problems.

I used to do tips in a pool room in NJ. I used super glue gel and could do a tip on the lath in 10 minutes or so,pretty quick. One night a guy says I need a tip for tonight and the Billiards store said they could not do it until tomorrow. I said how about now, give me 15 minutes. Ok so i do the tip and I'm back in 15 minutes or so and I say $10 (this was in the '80s). So this idiot says no the Billiards store only charges $8.00. WTF ! I start to walk away with his shaft and he says "Where you going?" I say "I'm going to remove the tip on the lath so I don't damage the ferrule" He whips out a $10 bill and grumbles as he walks away. Needless to say that was the last tip I did for him.
Forgot to add that this person owned a paving company and would play $100 a game 9 ball like it was nothing.

This guy should have been happy to have the tip put on in a few minutes instead of having to wait a whole day. Do you have an Hank's bottle water for sale?

I have never put a tip on but you handled it like I would have. I have found you can't do any kind of business with some people.
