Gold Crown Questions

I have to second the "don't get rid of the Anniversary" thinking. I almost think that if anyone was abusive enough to mine to cause me pain, I'd get rid of them and keep the Anny.

Very similar, but here is mine. Repainted with automotive paint and clear, covered with Simonis tournament electric blue.

Good for you for getting rid of those damn skirts. The most unnecessary piece of garbage ever put on a pool table.

You guys are right. I must be insane to get rid of my Anniversary table.
Maybe I'll keep it and tighten up the pockets and put some Simonis on it.

What are the common rails that GC have on them? Generally?

Taiwan garbage. Buy Artemis rubber for sure. A new set is like $125.

Amen to that, Jay. I've got new Artemis rubber on my Anny, and it rocks.

Yes.....I believe that the GCV's are out now.

I have had a many tables and always wanted a really nice GCI. So I fixed up my garage, bought a GCI and fixed it up. I absolutely love it!! Ernesto set it up so it plays flawlessly, unfortunately.......I don't.....:D

That table is super nice. I have a line on a GC1 (original owner) that I will probably pick up after the Derby.

Do you have to get longer Artemis rails to make the pockets tighter or do they just use little added shims???

new rubber rails will be longer than you need. you'll have to cut them flush after gluing. So that would be a good time to cut custom shims. Rework your geometry to be straight cut and make them as thick as you need... Then put on the new rubber.

However, stacking shims is what most do...

Can anyone out there tell me more about the Gold Crowns?
What years were they made per edition? Which edition is the best?

I have a 1948 Brunswick Anniversary Issue that is in perfect condition that I'm thinking about selling. I'm tired of babying it and I know the Gold Crowns can take the abuse.

Thanks.

Here is a June issue of my description, I prefer the GCI's

I grew up playing on em, from what I remember the white aprons yellowed because of nicotene. But the two colors that come to mind are orange and the light pastel blue(there was a third color). I also remember that Brunswick made fiberglass aprons too at that time. The wall cue racks that went along with these commercial tables had matching color backings that were the same color as the aprons. The wall racks were the ones with the rubber worms at the top that held the cues in place. I have one of the orginal chrome rake holders, if interesed PM me. The aprons were made out of poplar and were four pieces glued together. The slate should be a flint based orange color, no leg leverers and the slate frames were thicker giving the playing surface ht. its natural 31" vertical. The side pockets (GCI) had barrel type (best ever) hardward that never loosened up. I feel its the best playing table Brunswick ever made. The orange...flint based slate was repairable because it broke clean, whereas the next generation and present, their slates shattered in layers...when that happened you needed a new matching set of slates. Ball boxes were standard and ball counters on the foot rail (wished Diamond had those on their tables). The formica of course was the best on the top rails and if your fortunate it still has the original cushions. The slate frames (on the GC I's) were thicker and a much better quality poplar/wood than the GC II's and later. The legs are not adjustable on the (I) because when put together the ht. was preset. They also had the USA made ball counters that were not cheap like the later day GC III's and such. One more item, very cool, the pockets were gray and did not transfer any debris/composite on too the balls, the black ones did. Hope this helps. I did like the GCII's, they were so close to the I's and had the thicker, better ball counters than the knock off models made from the GCIII's and later.

Gold Crown 2 for Sale Memphis

Since this thread is going around, I'll let interested parties know now. I will know with-in 2-3 weeks if I will be moving? If I do, I will be selling my refinished Gold Crown 2. Sides were striped and refinished with mahogany stain by a former furniture/upholsterer professional; bottom painted brownish. It is beautiful. The pockets are shimmed. If I move, I will be placing pictures. I have 4 white glazed dome lights with mahogany wood rims around the bottom of the lights; Super Arimus ball (pd $210)-all for $2500. Live in Memphis. It is set up. I've owned 2 GC2s and one 3.

Ernesto added wood to the ends of the rails and then installed new Artemiss cushions. There is only a facing on my table, no shims.

Russ.......

shims suck, good mechnics cut the rails to the proper length like Ernesto.
