Good players from california????

I played a guy from the LA area a few years ago in Vegas at the APA masters.. Elias Valles... lost 7-6 to him... beat him in 8ball but lost the 9ball race. He was a strong player & seemed a nice guy. Also Brian Parks from Bakersfeild is very strong... but I am sure those guys aren't at the top of the food chain out there. :)

"West Coast players are better then East Coast players"

Then the next statement is "I need the breaks and the last two in a race to 7 for $100"
OR,
"I need the breaks and 9-6, for $100 a game one pocket"

It's just talk.

There are plenty of good players out west and even more good players in the Mid west and east coast.

LOL that's so true!

There a are a few good players from the west coast but overall I'd put them last overall in the country, with the midwest, east coast and south all producing better players. How many U.S. open winners came from the west coast?

Jose Parica
Earnesto and Oscar Dominguez
I just realized I could keep going there are ALOT of great players on the West Coast.

I don't think either of those players are actually from the west coast originally. Because if that were the case the east coast could claim Mika and Thorsten as our own.

Let me help you a little. Parica has lived in Corona, CA for many years. Billy Palmer from S.F. is one of the country's premier One Pocket players. T-Rex and Amar Kang both hail from Sacramento. Keith and Ronnie were from L.A. and Cole from the Bay area. Tang Hoa is from Glendale. He could play a little in his day. Scott Frost is from Phoenix, but that is considered a Western area player. Morro Paez has been a monster player for a long, long time. He went back East a couple of times 15-20 years ago and made a fortune in Detroit and Pittsburgh.

Swanee was from San Diego, none much better than him, as was Richie Florence (and Little Al) from Los Angeles. We've had our share of champions. Not too many players can come out here and spar with "One Pocket" Rich. He's mostly under the radar, but that hasn't stopped him from busting many a road dog. We have MANY other area shortstops who play very good pool on big tables and small. I'd say there are at least twenty guys who play at, or close, to Dave Hemmah's speed, who are not regular tournament players. Guys like Dan Wallace, Shane Manole, George Michaels, Sal Butera and King Kong.

There are many more from Phoenix, L.A. and the Bay area who I could name, as well as a dozen more good players up North in Seattle and surrounding areas. Dan Louie and Rich Geiler were (and are) both very strong players. The West Coast has it's share of good pool players, and anyone who has come out here has discovered that fact.

Wow, I left out "California Kim" Davenport, U.S. Open champ John Schmidt, Max Eberle and Louie Ulrich. Glen Atwell can play with anyone today and Rafael has been living out here for years.

Where was Mosconi from Jay? I forgot about Dan Louie he is still a hell of a player. I saw him run 6 or 7 on Archer the last time we were in Tacoma. Also please remember Jay Helfert and Mark Cantrill watch those two play is like watching a tornado go through a trailer park :)

I heard most of the good West Coast players are transplants from the East Coast:). Johnnyt

Mosconi was from Philidelphia.

there are good players from all over.

There used to be a short lived annual North South tournament. Let someone do an East West tournament. I will add $500 provided no funny stuff-meaning no Thorsten, Mika etc.

Only a few players in California that would be considered top 16 finishers at the DCC, US Open 9ball, BCAL DP 10 Ball or Turning Stone.

Oscar Dominguez is one of them.

Rafael Martinez is now a regular Sacramento guy playing out of the Jointed Cue most
every day ... He plays a little...

West Coast Player

I mentioned Glen Atwell several months ago as an Unknown Monster on a barbox and several East Coast players said he wasn't. He then proved it by taking 2nd, 1st, 2nd at the Reno Open. He can also play on a big table as he has shown.

I believe the majority of the major tournaments and tours are on the east coast and because of that the players are better known. I totally agree with Chris Bartram and several other posters that have said there are great players all over the country. Some are just better known than others.
