I am finding gorilla glue to be better glue for alot of applications than epoxy. Been doing alot of trial and error and gg is really one of the main glues I use.
I use GG on internal applications but I have been afraid to use it for areas that show on the outside of the cue. For example; rings, joint and butt caps, because of the foaming I worry that there will be a big visible glue line.
Is that true?
Kim
Kim,
If you are using a polyurethane glue, which Gorilla glue is, properly your glue joints will have a tight intimate fit. The foaming only occurs outside the glue joint so it will all be cut away. If you have foaming in your glue joint, then the fit is very poor and no glue would hold it properly.
Polyurethanes are very good adhesives. Often times they are the best glue for the application.
I'm tempted to try Gorilla Glue (polyurethane) for tips install. I have seen it is not recommended for ferrules, right?
Generally we've been doing very good with CA gel produced locally (cheaper than Loctite which is superb), so I would like to add gluing method other than mechanical bond. So I'm looking for chemical bond, sort of like what GG does.
Could you please recommend certain GG type (White? Fast curing? NOT superglue by GG, right?) as well as share your experience and how you apply it when working on tips?
I use Gorilla glue on a lot of wood to wood applications! It works great for that. I have tried on paper on silver and on phenolics. NOT A GOOD IDEA!! It cost me time and money to learn that is it for wood applications only!! It will adhear to some other materials. Some ricon stones. I wouldnt use it on Ivory. JMO on that! I have found that Wes system works on just about everything!! I say that just about everything because had a small issue with silver veneers. Could have been my technique gluing also!Have any of you guys used Gorilla Glue to glue in points that are not wood? Specifically I am thinking of Ivory, Elforyn, Atlas XXX black paper and Atlas ivory micarta sheets.
Thanks for the help.
