Just finished up. I haven't built a Merry widow in a long time and thought I'd show a couple pics.
I believe it's Indian Rosewood with a BEM handle. If this doesn't look like Indian Rosewood let me know what you think it is.
I have a local guy looking at it tomorrow. If it doesn't fit his needs I'll list it in the for sale.

For those who called about this cue the guy here purchased the cue.

Now this is what I'm talkin about! :eek: This is one FINE cue sir, it looks awesome! My focus on cues anymore is going to be all about the wood and the beauty it holds, not how many points it may have, or how fancy it may be. After all, cues are about how nice the wood is, right? IMO, simple IS better and this cue is a fine example of just that. Congrats on a fine build sir, Jeff

The orange highlights do make it look like Cocobola. I'm sure it's not Cocobola. It had a Rosewood smell when cutting.

Your finish looks like a mirror! Very nice work sir.

thats cool build a great cue and not know what kind of wood it is. i can relate to that, if it looks good roll with it to the top. great cue!!! The Szam cue came out great too.

Great Cue! The handle does have some off rosewood tendencies, but the picture of the butt sleeve definitely looks like East Indian Rosewood to me. East Indian is a very nice rosewood with almost the same specific gravity/weight as Brazilian, just not nearly as rare, but a fine wood nonethless. Also, Cocobolo also belongs to the rosewood family, the Dalbergia family. Mexican Cocobolo - Dalbergia Retusa, East Indian Rosewood - Dalbergia Latifolia/latifola, and Brazilian Rosewood - Dalbergia Nigra. That being said, It is possible that cocobolo could have some Rosewood hint/smell to it when cutting, but I'm almost sure you have East Indian Rosewood there. Sorry for being so technical, and if you already knew everything I just said here, my apologies, If not, then I hope it helped in some way. By the way, if your customer doesn't want that gorgeous cue, he/she would be crazy. Great work!!:D
 
My apologies. I meant to say the forearm, not the handle, has some off rosewood tendency. The cue is very nice, and again, if I'm going by the picture of the butt sleeve, almost positive, East Indian Rosewood. Just curious, did the butt sleeve, and forearm come from the same turning square, or were they from different pieces of stock? That could explain some of the color variation from butt sleeve to forearm. But in any case whoever owns that cue is a lucky SOB! By the way, I second Fatboy's motion, great work on the Szam tribute!

It's undoubtedly east indian. I have a pretty large stock of EI rosewood, and can tell you first hand how it ranges in color, grain & weight to a high degree. By the color of your piece, i'd guess it to weight just a hair more than maple, but not as heavy as typical cocobolo. Color is a good tell-tale of weight & density. EI rosewood is my new "happy wood". I'm falling in love with the stuff. It's stable, strong, tonal, & perfect weight for cues. It looks friggin cool, too.
