,,,,except that the mr matthews seems to be the one who brings up whatever issues are eating his innards....and all he EVER contributes to this forum is to vent gripes, promote his events, and tell us why he is doing everything right for pool and why everyone else is doing everything wrong. i personally can do without his "contribution" to azb. seems to me, grady is loudest when he has a gripe to vent.
i have to defend splinter because it seems to me that he is criticizing grady for his "contribution" here at azB. which for the largest part has been nothing short of crybabying and acting like an old curmudgeon. i too, not going back far enough, can only identify mr matthews for his COMPLAINTS here and not what he has done for the sport.
i see mr matthews as part of "the old guard"....a highly indivisualistic person who refuses to hold hands with others for the greater good,,,,CONTRARY TO WHAT HE HAS US BELIEVE. and i can only believe this because there he stands fighting everyone and telling us about it, because it's his way or the highway. this refusal of cooperation is just one barrier that pool has had to face(ie,,,mens pool) in its bid to seek mainstream acceptance. in short,,,mr matthews way is the wrong way. it is a method that propagates spirited non-cooperation, as everyone is merely out to get their piece of the pie.
it IS sad that grady has had to eat his losses in the past, but you know what,,,,that just means he's been a very bad businessman.... and who in his right mind would ever accuse a poolplayer of being a smart business entrepenuer. that kind of sad business model should have been trashed eons ago because it has only contributed to pool's lack of product.
as mens pool inches into the 21st century, and it eyes a bigger stage, it will need bigger players, not some throwback indivisual who thinks "small potatos". this also means, btw, that a lot of people will have to suck it up and sacrafice for the greater good. if things happen in the future that gets pool off the ground, i can expect almost with certainty, that people like grady will not be part of the change.
