Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It is to be:
Grady's
850-C South Lake Rd.
Lexington, SC 29072
The phone number is 803-957-7665, although much of the time nobody will be answering until about mid Sept. It's on Route 6, exit 55 off I-20.
Eleven big tables and six bar boxes, Diamond Smart tables all with pro cut pockets. There's 7,400 sq. ft. and we'll be serving beer and wine.
I'm thinking about having a small event for a grand opening on Oct.13th and 14th. (The doors will be open much earlier...like as soon as there's a table on four legs.) The U.S. Open starts on the 15th but players don't have to be in Norfolk until Mon. evening and it's only a six hour drive from here in Lexington.
Frankly, I've been tired of 9 Ball for a long time and I'm kind of known for One Pocket, Banks and 14.1 anyway. So I respectfully ask this forum, do you think a Bank Pool or One Pocket event would work as an opening attraction? By the way, On Sat. nights, when there's nothing big conflicting, I run really nice handicap 9 Ball tournaments.
When I get this establishment off the ground I intend to start Senior tournaments, too.
I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Great news Grady! I will get that menu to you asap. Been kinda crazy here at Strokerz lately:D

congrats grady, hope it all goes well.

i would think tbh as an opening event a 9-ball tourny would work best, simply because it would attract the most players. which is probably the key thing. if it genuinely wouldnt nessecarilly attract more than say a 1 pocket or straight pool event, then go ahead with them.

my two cents!

Congratulations Grady! I wish you the best of luck!

I am 100% positive this will be one of the highest-class poolrooms in the nation in no time...

Congratulations again Grady, and best of luck.

I think a one-pocket tournament would be a fitting and popular way to christen your new room.

Congrats, Grady!!! I will stop in the next time I am through there. Hope to see you!!

Gary

I'm so happy for you!

Grady,

Awesome news! Before you know it, it'll be like the old days at Cochran's again, only better! You have a tremendous fan base, and I for one am so looking forward to visiting your establishment.

I like the senior part of your thread because that's me in a year and a half:)

As for suggestions...How about selling some shirts and hats, ala "The Beard" to help promote your pool room? I imagine that the brethren here on AZB would love to purchase official "Professor" memorabilia.

I'm so happy for you. All our best to you and Randi!

Congratulations, Grady! I've heard you've been put through a lot to get the room open and I'm glad you finally prevailed. I only wish I were closer so I could visit and take a few lessons.

As far as an opening event goes, a big 1P event would be pretty smart. You certainly know how to throw one.

If you want to go with one of the "gun slinger" games, go with 10B over 9B. As you know, 10B decreases the number of B&R's & adds a bit more complexity to better test a players knowledge. The game of 9B is obsolete to me.

Wishing you every success in this new venture, Grady. I'm sure you'll deliver a premium product to the pool community.

i like maybe a 10 ball AND a one hold event! $200 entry in both ,in other words you must play in both events, not one or the other plus a juicy calcutta...mmm.mmm. i smell money:D

Hey Grady, congrats on the new room :), and I agree wholeheartedly with Steve Lipsky, that it's gonna be one of the greatest rooms in the US, especially with your experience and knowledge behind it :)

I know what you mean, because as much as I love playing 9ball, I have also been bored of it, because I have always been more of a Straight Pool, Banks, One Pocket and other Full Rack Games, (Except 8ball, as I'm bored with that too :) lol) and so, it would be an absolute God send, to know of a room that would have more One Pocket, Bank Pool and Straight Pool being played, especially if there's gonna be some tournaments, then I would happily raise the cash to come over from Ireland to play :)

I wish you the very best with the new room and I very much hope to make it over to SC sometime early in the new year :)

Willie

Congrats Grady, but I really think that you'll have great success whatever you plan for your room. I for one will plan a vacation down your way just to visit and support you. Maybe I can bring one or two of the old Oak Park "Rack" crowd with me...Tom
