I went back home to Endicott NY for my new born son's baptism. While I was in town I had the chance to go to my instructors house (know the guy since I was 6) to play some. I owe my instructor Dale a lot for the knowledge and lessons he gave me so I did something that he would never forget... I brought up his childhood hero... Mr. Lee Sibly!!

I contacted Lee through AZ and I told him about Dale and how much he admired him and how it would be an honor to have him come up and play for a bit. Here's the email I sent him:

Hello Lee,

My name is Jesse Janovsky from Endicott NY. I use to watch you and all the guys play at Triangle Billiards as a kid and loved your game!!! When i went back home to Ithaca my game was honed or sharpened by a Mr. Dale Baker... Ring a bell?? If not no matter. Dale admired your game just as much as I did when he was younger and I always wanted to bring you up to his place to play. He lives in Trumansburg and has a beautiful Brunswick GC in his billiard room addition on his house. It was there iIgot my ass handed to me for 3 straight years and Dale talked very highly of you.

I dont know how much or how you play these days but the next time in up in the Binghamton area i wanted to know if you wanted to come along to his place.... He would be honored and it would be the least iIcould do for him. Let me know what you think and I hope you decide to tag along. Take care Lee and ill talk to you soon :-)

Well Lee was pretty touched and agreed to go up to Dale's house with me. We talked about the good ol days that were Triangle Billiards on what is not a delapitated crumbling building. Full of memories but screams despair.. On the brighter side I told him about the booming pool scene in the NOVA, MD and DC area which I find myself very lucky :thumbup2:

When we arrived I was pretty excited and could not wait to see the look on his face. When he answered the door I said hi and then introduced Lee to him. His reaction.... "Lee Sibly??? You are LEE SIBLY!!!!!!" "Get your asses in here!!!!!" He looked like he was gonna faint!!!! Over the moon he was!!! Pretty soon were down in the poolroom were Dale was talking about how he met Lee and how he enjoyed watching him and all teh greats play.

It was the happiest I had ever seen Dale and Im so glad that I got to do this for him. He has givign me so much and I felt that this was a great way to re-pay my debt to him. Not really a debt but you know what I mean. My apperciation for the time and enegry he took to mold me into the player I am today

MR. Mike Andrews also came down to play for a bit and was showing us his famous 1" jump shots. Not to mention stories of pool greatest and the road. Dale was in pool heaven for at least 3 hours and for me... It was the greatest 3 hours I have ever spent in that room.

Dale if you are reading this THANK YOU!!!! Thank you for everything and I hope that what I did this past weekend brought you that much joy. I am eternally greatful for everything you have done for me and my game.

To everybody else if you every have anybody take you under their wing make sure to show them how much you care and apperciate them. Im pretty sure I did this all in spades.

Just thought I would share :embarrassed2:

That's a cool story. It definitely feels good when you can do something good for someone that helped you in the past.

JJ;

That was a most enjoyable read and nice pics, too. A very fine display of kindness and thoughtfullness on your part.

Thanks for sharing - and congrats on your new baby boy.

Triangle billiards

About 20 years ago I was scouting for billiard antiques around northern
Pennsylvania.I consider myself quite an independent person but I woke
up one morning in another strange motel and realized I hadn't talked to anybody I knew for four days.
So I drove up to Endicott and hung around the Triangle for the afternoon.
Lee was there (it's Sibley btw) and Bob and Jerry.
We argued about 'greatest players' 'best tables' 'how to play certain shots'..and politics and religion and good looking women....

When I left I didn't feel so lonely anymore and stayed out for a few more
days.....what a suck..:embarrassed2:
Places like the Triangle remind me of my first pool hall...decent Brunswick
equipment...but it's the people that make a room a pleasure.

thanx for reminding me of these fine people

regards
pt..<..who is more gregarious than he'd like to be

Jesse...I had plans to be in Ithaca today, and was going to stop by Dale's house afterwards (I would have missed you, though). Unfortunately my Ithaca lesson had to cancel at the last minute, so I went on to Buffalo. Played for a few hours tonight at Bison Billiards, on their Diamond tables. Boy that humidity really made the table squirrelly (it was raining)! LOL Dale's table sure is a nice one! Glad you had a great time! We'll run into each other one of these days, when I come through DC!

Scott,

You should have stopped by Camelot Billiards in Rochester. If you are travelling East from Buffalo, please let me know. I'd be happy to meet you. Haven't seen you since that night in Vegas at Pool Sharks. We watched Dippy do what Dippy do!

Lyn

Hey JJ,

Glad you and Lee finally got together.

Lyn

Thank you for hooking us up!!! I really apperciated it. Lee really liked his table so he may stop by Dale's place again soon ;)

Mike Andrews was pretty impressed with Dale's room and table and talked about setting up some challenge matches. Would love to see that

Funny but I told Dale you were in the area and he asked me how I knew that. I told him to get on here so he could keep in touch with the pool world.

I think he really would've fainted if you walked into the room unannouced :lol::lol:

Lyn...Actually you walked right by me, out of the elevator at the Riv, going to the basement parking lot at the BCAPL. You were in a hurry, so I didn't chase ya down! LOL I was headed west this time...but we'll meet up again...hopefully in your neck of the woods.

Jesse,

1. Congratulations on the birth and baptism of your son! If you're semi-retired from pool now, it sounds like your priorities are in order. You'll have more time later, when he's older.

2. Thanks for the great story. That was a nice gesture, and seemed appreciated by all.

When I was going to college and grad school in Ithaca, I used to drive through Endicott to take lessons from Babe Cranfield in Syracuse. It was paradise b/c I got to see Mr. Cranfield AND I got to stop in the A&W (which I think was in Endicott) for a cheeseburger and a root beer float!!! I'm dating myself, but as of the late 70's/early 80's they still used to put a tray on the side of your car window.

Thanks again for sharing your story and for bringing back some pleasant memories.

Larry
