Greetings from Black Boar!

If the "lower end" you are referring to is $6 to $10 k, like the Blackwood cues, I agree with you. I thought you were talking about pumping out cues at $2 grand in which case I would disagree.

I'm saying those now low end cues don't move very fast infact pretty slow , satin SW cues have zero effect on the worth of thier cues nor thier many yr waiting list the 2 or 3 market levels are far different from each other

I'm not sure what you are referring to? I'm not hijacking Tony's business, I assure you. I actually work at Black Boar as a junior artist and Tony put me in charge of social media. The only purpose of my post here is to let those who are interested know that Black Boar has an official Facebook page and Twitter now. If you go to the page, you can see that I took photos of the work being done right at the shop. I'm not trying to sell anything.

Edit to add: I even posted Black Boar's phone number if anyone wants to speak directly to Tony. If I was a scammer that would make no sense lol

Welcome to the forum! Should be a real treat for those folks here who salivate over the work that comes from your Grandad's shop!

A word of advice: No need for 'thick skin' per se. Rather, just learn to laugh at the forum "experts" like Nick. The rest of us do. Perhaps he's intimidated by your presence since he's looooong since told the world how tight he is with Tony and how he's a real authority on anything/everything Black Boar related.

ETA: I had to shorten my sentences in this post because of the HUGE photos somebody posted in this thread,
requiring one to scroll from east to west because the HUGE photos take up too much room in a thread. I wish
people would not do that. :(

OT: I used to have that problem and it drove me crazy. Then I changed my settings so that pictures would not show, only the links. Most of the time I didn't care to see the picture anyway. And now if it is something I want to see I just click on the link and the picture comes up in a new window without screwing up all the message on the forum page.

Click on Settings at the top of the screen, then Edit Options. Go down to the Thread Display Options and uncheck the box that says Show Images.

And Bob's your uncle.

Thanks very much for the warm welcome, Ted!

I'll be posting photos of the facility on Facebook pretty soon! If you're not on mobile right now, you can go to blackboarcustomcues.com and look at the "cue making" gallery, which shows some images of the shop. It's a flash gallery so it's not mobile-friendly. I'm going to be working on the website soon- it hasn't been updated in a few years.

If you're ever in the College Park/DC area, you're welcome to stop by for a visit any time. Tony loves having visitors because that means he gets to show off all of his antiques and odds and ends. It's a very neat place to visit, kind of like a museum.

There are a lot of diehard AZers that don't do FB....
...SO HOW ABOUT POSTING ALL THAT INFO ON HERE?

There are over 55 thousand members here...and two to three times as many lurkers....
...this is a dedicated pool audience, we don't show pics of what we had for dinner....
....much...:o
...but we love pool cues.

ETA: Damn big photos up above in this thread ruin posting in this thread. One has to scroll from left to right. Very inconsiderate to post
such LARGE photos in a thread.

Good Lord man! I apologized in the post right before this one of yours. Move on...it won't happen again.

I second this. AZ dedicated Pool fans, would love to see the pics posted on here.

I just deleted my pics so there'd be no issues and just keep them on the "Cue & Case Gallery" or the "For Sale" forum.

JAM is a "woman" not a man...just thought you'd like to know.

Good point, and I saw that franko cosigned on that sentiment as well. In all seriousness, I would be happy to post on here more often since not everyone does Facebook/Twitter. I don't even bother with my own personal FB page that much anymore to be honest.

I'm not a salesman and I don't want to spam the forum, but if there's an interest in seeing what we're currently working on, or if anyone has any questions, I'm always here at the shop; usually within yelling distance of Tony. I think it's just good sense for cuemakers to stay in touch with a large audience of pool players.

I have to call bull hockey on this. Tony's full of it on this point. Sorry not sorry.

Oh, those damn big pictures in the thread again. Crap!

About Tony watching a player's stroke when he custom-builds a cue, it has to do with where the forward balance is in the butt, how tapered the shaft will be, et cetera.

With Keith's cue, he likes a lot of forward balance. I actually don't know what this means, but I think it may have something to do with there the weight is in the butt of the cue. The taper, Keith's preference is a long taper, longer than others like perhaps.

HTH!

You posted after I wrote the second complaint.

FWIW, I enjoy photos very much, but not with they're so big that they ruin a person's reading enjoyment, requiring every single post after the huge photo to scroll left to right, left to right, left to right, left to right, on every line, every line, every line, just to read a person's post. It sucks, these large photos. They really do suck a big weenie!

I do like seeing photos, though, so I don't want to *not* see them. I just don't care for the big photos that ruin reading a thread. I think it's in poor taste to subject every reader of a thread to go through that process of scrolling left to right to read one damn line of text because someone doesn't know how to post a smaller photo in a thread. That's all. :)

I agree that it would be in poor taste if done knowingly. In my case, I am technologically challenged by photo sizing and had no idea the effect of posting the photos would have. The big photos really do suck and ruin the thread experience for you and even me. In fact, I'm calling black boar to see if the thread can be deleted altogether because I jacked it up so bad. This is the biggest disaster I have created in quite some time. I can't believe I could have done this.

If this continues to be an issue in this thread, please post up to let me know. :thumbup2:

Trust me when I tell you, showing the work you do is all to often taken as trying to sell your work like you're broke or something and will stoop to any low level you can to drum up sales....I know, I get accused of it all the time....so, I stopped showing the work I do for the most part here on AZB and show it on my Facebook page instead. I think it's cool to show what you can do so that others can see the work that is put into the cues in order to build them, has nothing to do with looking for a sale.

Hi AZBilliards! My name is Mika. I'm Tony Sciannella's granddaughter and the newest addition at Black Boar as an artist/where ever else I can find myself useful.

Just wanted to let you all know, we now have an official Facebook page and Twitter, which I will be tasked with running right from BB headquarters. I will be giving you frequent updates from Tony himself, lots of photos of our past cues, and plenty of photos and info of our works in progress.

If you have any questions for Tony or our lead artist Donnie, post here, PM me, message us through Facebook, or whatever you prefer. You can always email us at blackboarcues@gmail.com, or call Tony directly at the shop anytime at 301-277-3236. Thanks so much!

I'm sure we'd all like to see some of your artwork! You've sure got some big shoes to fill between Tony and Donnie!
