Anyone know anything on these Gullassay Cues? I was interested in one, didnt know how his work stacked up on a cue making level.

I know whom he is, just wondered what you think of his cues......

Mike's cues are fine! I don't currently own one but have owned two in the past and they played good. I got talked into a deal by a guy who really wanted mine and swapped for another Gulyassy and some cash. I didn't like the one shaft that came with the one I got so I sold it. Didn't have the money for another for a long time.
Give Mike a try. If, by chance, you don't like it you won't have any trouble moving it.

I had him make me a break cue. Very pleased with it! One of the best local players here, shoots with one of Mike's playing cues. Has high praise for his shafts.

His cues play real good.

Don't take my word for it though, ask Dennis Hatch or Earl?

But don't fall for the same trap Earl did when he made his deal based on X $'s per inch. :D ;)

Best,

Also kelley cues out of Louisiana......Im between these 2 that 2 people got for sale.....

Actually, it might be the best deal going to get the Earl Strickland model. You also get reduced pricing on:

  • a Thule car roof rack
  • a bag of bungee cords (to strap the cue onto the rack with)
  • and the four fluorescent orange "hazard" flags to attach to either end of both the butt and the shaft, so you can drive it home.
:p

''mg''

I have 4 of Mike's cues,, two are players and two are break cues,

He's one of the best craftsman out there and I own lots of the so called ''Big Name'' cues as well,,,,,,

Mike also builds an awesome shaft and can do any kind of repair work or modifications,,,

On top of all of that, he's honest to a ''T'', when he tells you a cue will be delivered,,,,,,,start walking towards your door, it'll be there !!

I have an original SledgeHammer made by Mike Gulyassy. I found mine at Super Billiard Expo a couple of years back, and I wouldn't give it up.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Mike Gulyassy cue. I think he used to be able to play at a high level and I think he knows what a good cue should play like. His leather wraps are top speed too!

Mike is one of the rare cue makers who ALSO plays at a world class level. That coupled with his extensive experience and attention to detail as a craftsman equals top notch cues.

He once put had me hold a cue at the very end while he held the tip. He scratches the tip lightly and you can feel it in the very end of the cue at the buttcap.

I thought this was a party trick and was meaningless. So I went back to my booth and tried it out with five or so of our cues and couldn't duplicate it on any of them. So then I tried out Mike's cue and it hit pretty damn sporty. I don't know if he still builds them this way or not but I was very impressed.

Yeah, he makes excellent cues and plays dam good too, but you can't forget that he is an innovator too.

That is one bad dude.

Mike makes a terrific cue. But before I go into that, I wanted to reiterate his innovative contributions. Mike is constantly looking for better ways to make cues. His work on break cue ferrules, shooting cue ferrules, cue joint and shaft design have all advanced the state of the art. In addition, he's an absolute craftsman with superior attention to detail.

As for my Gulyassy cues, my break cue and current player were made by Mike. I have a bacote/curly maple wrapless cue that plays superbly. Mike met my specifications regarding weight and balance precisely. The result is a handsome cue that reflects the attention of a woodcrafting artist, which plays great.

If you order a cue from Mike, be sure to ask about his Strickland shaft taper for the shaft, and get Mike's "Shaftfreeze" (another innovation) too.
