Happy Birthday Gus

Barry -

Just got one of your dads cues. It isnt often that a 45 year old man gets choked up over a cue.

Quite the legency. We should all be so lucky.

Its his birthday today? what a coincidence. I had a wake you up in the middle of the night bad dream last night. In my dream I was betting sky high in football and losing and the bookie said to me, hey you can get even with me if you give me your szamboti. So I did. Then in my dream I said..whoa I must be in a nightmare..this cant be for real...I would never do this. So I "woke up" and then ran to my case and pull the Gus out. Then I notice that the butt is bent and the cortland is unravelling. The butt is cracked and nearly broken in half. aiighhhh! Then I really did wake up... 4:55 am this morning...very agitated. I told my wife and my best buddy down here in Miami about this dream. Wife was like hunh..? Pool buddy was like oh damn what a horrible dream!

I really love my cue. Thanks so much to your Dad for making such jamup cues.

Happy B-Day to Gus, and best wishes to you, Barry. You carry on a proud, fine legacy.

Hi Barry, Happy Birthday to your Dad, Great man, and then great cue maker.I have never met anyone who as ever said a bad word about the name SZAMBOTI, and I never will. I am just glad that Pop took the time and patience to show you the graceful art of Cue Making to carry on the legacy. See you soon, and I want to start on a cue. Your friend Greg.

Gus Szamboti

hi Barry, what a legacy you have, to carry on the traditions you're father taught you. i've owned several Gus's, & Barry's, never get tired of aquiring another. there all monsters in my opinion. each cue Barry builds has a lot of Gus in it. Barry you have even a greater gift than cue building, its called INTEGRATY, which your father passed on to you. regards & all the best to you & family don

My name is Jesse J to all the fellow Az'ers.

Have a great day Gus

Today would be my Dad's 77th birthday.
It's a tough day for me.
I'm lucky in some ways. My idol was my Dad.
I wish you all could have known that as great a cuemaker
that he was, he was an even better man.

Happy Birthdady to the Man!

It's sad when someone is taken away before their time. We go on, but the wounds never seem to fully heal. Thankfully, Gus is remembered, loved, and adored by so many and will be remembered for so long.

No matter how good someone is at their craft, ultimately it is character that earns them respect. When someone is respected and admired enough, by enough, they become great people.

Your dad is one of those few great people, Barry. We were fortunate to have had him.

"THE MAN" is right. Gus was "the man" making cues and "the man" as a man. I never met him but I have heard many stories from Bert Schrager. Happy birthday, Gus.

Barry,
Happy Birthday to Gus. I remember the Friday Nights I would drive down to The Ball Room in Tom's River. This Big Ole Caddy with a PA license plate that said "CUES" was enough to tell me Gus was in there eating ice cream with Tony Catucci. He was always very nice and patient with my questions about cues, and even let me hit a few balls with his personal cue he had brought with him. I visited Burton Spain one evening and he told me he felt Gus was in his opinion, the cuemaker who understood the artistry and nature of the wood, and gave it life. That is a high compliment coming from another Legend, and Burton wasn't known for handing out compliments very often. Happy Birthday Gus!! I know you and Tony are sharing an Ice Cream Sandwich in Heaven!!!

he wasn't a great cuemaker...HE WAS THE GREATEST CUEMAKER.

i know a fellow in ohio, the cincinnati area...that owns 2 Gus cues...and they both play better than anything else ive ever played with. the only cue even close, is a franklin era Southwest. and the boti's are still king!

Gus S.

I recently got to play with a Gus Szamboti cue and now I know what all the commotion is about. You must be very proud of your dad as I'm sure he was very proud of you too.

Gus

Barry, it in no way can compensate for the loss of your father but he is remmbered daily in the hands of many and he lives on, that is something that many do not, Happy Birthday Gus in the billard hall above.
