Happy Trails to Tony Chohan...

I got a letter from Tony today. I had written to him a couple of weeks ago. He thanked me for writing and he said that it's the only letter he's gotten from anyone in the pool world. He told me how much receiving even one letter brightens his day. He knows he will be "down" for a long time and he would very much like to stay in touch with the pool world.

I am having copies of Billiards Digest sent to him each month, but if someone would like to subscribe to another publication for him, I'm sure he would appreciate that.

His address is:
Tarjit Chohan 619-088
5900 B.I.S. Road
SCI
Lancaster, OH 43130

jay can i send him some cash?

I'm not sure how to do that. You could write and ask him. I have a feeling his family is taking care of him that way.

Yeah u cant send cash directly to an inmate-it has to go to his 'account' You could call the prison and they will tell ya how.

Possible transfer to CA

The states do allow for interstate transfers. See

http://www.interstatecompact.org/

However there needs to be a good reason for such a transfer.

Hope that helps

Thanks Joe, I found a sample Interstate Transfer form on-line at the web site you suggested and I am putting in in the mail today so Tony can possibly be moved to the state of CA where at least his parents can visit him on a regular basis.

Inmates can receive money orders up to $100.00 from anyone. Money orders over $100.00 must be approved by the Warden. Money orders must have a legible signature of the sender and include the return address of the sender, inmate’s name and inmate number. The money order is placed in the inmate's account. While the inmate never has direct access to this money, it is available to him or her for commissary purchases, etc.

I don't know if anyone has posted this info yet, or if there is another thread with an updated addres. If so, please move this info into for me..

There is a site, www.jpay.com ,that can be ised for the following services for Tony:

Send money (for commissary purchaes and whatnot)
Fund his telephone csts
Send mail to him through an online servie
Video Visitation!

I dunno how much all the above services cost.. Just putting it out there for those f you who wish to make his stay a little bit more bearable...

Just to let everyone know..JPay.com worked fine.. I sent Tony a letter, and he responded back already. If anyone else was looking for a quick way to drop him a line, you can buy 3 stamps for a dollar, and he gets a free response to every letter you send..

He really appreciated the letter, and I thought it'd be nice to let everyone else know how to send him one if they want.

You guys can take the postage you are saving by not writing Howard Vickery, and write an extra letter to Tony.. :-)

I just coordinated with Don Akerlow from On The Break News grup, and he is gonna send Tony The Break, Rackem for the Midwest, Stroke for the East Coast.

I think Tony used to be in one fo these, so he should recognize a lot of the names..

Was thinking about Tony today. Does anyone have an update on when he may be sprung?

Keith talks to him just about every day. I spoke to him a few days ago, and he said there's a chance he could be out by sometime in 2014, but it's not 100 percent.

He received a 7-year sentence, but sometimes due to overcrowding, non-violent persons are let out early, especially if they have good behavior.

Tony has adjusted and has not encountered any problems, which is a good thing. He said he's up to about 300 pounds, though, so I guess he ain't missing too many meals. :D

On a good note, because of rules in prisons, he has given up cigarettes, as they don't allow smoking.

Tony is fortunate to have his family in California and his lovely wife stand by him through this ordeal. I think he realizes today what are his priorities in life. One thing he did mention to me on the phone is he knows who his true friends are. He doesn't have as many as he thought he did. :frown:

Thanks so much for the update!!! I'm happy to hear he's kept his head on straight while inside. I wish him the best and hope to see him make a roaring comeback once he's out.

Even if he decides to not compete or play again, I'm glad to hear he's figured out what the important things in life are.

I bet he really looks forward to talking to you and Keith. Nice to know his wife has stuck by him. Good luck to him here on out.

JAM -

Can he get old magazines, books and stuff like that to pass the time?

Dumb idea? I usually just toss old pool stuff in box.

No, he can't get anything used. Everything has to be sent from the publisher or a company, like Amazon.

Believe it or not, a letter from someone would be worth a million to him. Just to know somebody cares enough to write him, I think that would really lift his spirits. :)

Tony is not a bad guy - and has grown up because of all of this stuff.

I like him and he always treated me right.

I wish him and his wife the very best in the future.
I am really glad Jam & Kieth kept close to him.
