Hello, I need some help locating a Pool Movie called The Player, starring Minnesota Fats from 1971. I came across an Original Movie Poster from the movie and have attempted to do some research on it but the only information I can find is as follows.

The Player (1971)

Starring: Jerry Como, Rae Phillips, Carey Wilmot, Jack Colavita, and Minnesota Fats

Written and Directed By: Thomas DeMartini

Theatrical Release: 1971 (limited)

Other Release: (none)

Plot: Billiards legend "Minnesota Fats" (real name Rudolph Wanderone) plays himself in this feature film that seems to have been lost in obscurity.

I don't know what you paid for it but you may have made a decent investment there? The only thing I find about the movie is it was "unreleased". Check out the link below at the bottom of the page..

Thanks very much Billy, I also think that this is a very Rare item. I have contact a number Movie Promotional item Specialists and no one has seen this poster or the Movie in question.

Thanks for the reply!!!!!!

As was mentioned, the movie was never released. Besides the poster, there is an 8-page press book that has sold on eBay for between $10 and $50. I have a copy of it, somewhere.

A check on www.imdb.com shows that none of the actors listed was ever involved in another movie. I think that Jack Colavita's son may be the best person to ask for more info.

yep never released , and if it had came out in modern era of now it would have came out straight to video aka no interest . it is worth about as much as you prolly paid for it .no market value or collectable.

holy smokes, wouldn't that be sumthing to see. i'd pay TAR or anyone who could get a hold of that a bunch for an online feed.

any detective framed minds roaming AzB with time to spare? this would be worth a serious investigation.

Thanks for time Bob, I will follow up on that. I have been contacted by a couple of individuals today, it appears this may be the only poster of it's kind left. This is one that I will never sell, it will make a great addition to my collection.

Thanks Again Bob!!!

I have a large copy of this poster in my pool room, so there are at least two of them. I also have a 4 page Movie Brochure (larger than legal size - black & white, glossy paper) with photos, and cast information. I saw this post while looking to see if this movie was ever available. I now have my answer thanks to you all. :) Thank you. Keep on strokin!!

"...set in the dingey grime and stench of the poolroom"

Guaranteed to make everyone want to get up and go patronize their local stench-hole!

even though the movie was never released, there has to be copy somewhere.
i'm going to look around, maybe europe.
european americans would smuggle anything out of the u.s.a., for fun, notoriety, fame :)

I had made inquiries into the Estate of the Producer and Director,

From what I found, the estate of the Producer, had an original of the movie, but I contacted the trustee and accoridinly it was stated that the original is not in the estate anymore.

So, good luck on locating a copy or the original reels,

If anyone finds one, please contact me, I would love to get a copy also,

But, I think this is lost and probably never to be had again,
But you never know

Good Luck on the SEARCH

Rod accepted and came flying from the large audience only to beintercipted by the local Police and tha whol thng squashed. That was pretty out rageous in that day

Another great historian and collector of something exactly like this would be John Lewis (I'd be very surprised if he didn't have this poster). I'd give him a call, he'll surprise ya and tell em I said Hi.

The movie was never released, so it couldn't have been at a drive-in in Denver. I also saw Fats at an exhibition in Denver, at Gart Bros. sporting goods in '75. He never shot a ball, but stood by the table for 2 hours , just holding his cue, telling jokes and lies. He had all of us in stitches the whole time. I knew Rod, but he wasn't at that exhibition.
