I saw a top player who was playing a top Filipino player speaking Tagalog to another top Filipino player between games in their match, insist that they speak English.
It could have been happening during actual games when it wasn't his turn but I'm not sure.
Thoughts?
I have always wondered what players listen to while playing with Headphones on ? I imagine there could be many different answers, and hoping some of the players might share....?

I remember a few years back when people said SVB had an advantage if he turned down his hearing aids. It seemed like he saw how it could and made a point of not turning them down but many people said there was no reason the other players could not wear ear plugs to not hear the crowd if they wanted to. That is not the same thing as maintaining radio contact with someone who could coach you. Also not the same as listening to the radio or another source of audio.
I believe in APA they are not allowed.
I don't think they should be worn during a match on any level. Just seems a bit rude to me. But, I understand some people want or need to block out distractions; so why not use ear plugs, like the foam ones that they use at auctions.

I'm not sure what the rules are on coaching during a match (assuming they were playing a tournament). But if there is a no coaching rule, then I can understand why the opponent would want them to speak English, or stop speaking period. And I can understand why this would make headphones not allowed.
That's what I was thinking: if I match up with a player evenly and he is listening to a coach...I am gonna have to give him the 8. :slap:

I just think it's disrespectful through and through.
To answer your question..YES...headphones should be DISALLOWED during matches.
I listen to a lot of trip hop while shooting. It's normally soft beats instrumental or accompanied with some signing. This caught me. I just scanned through my primary pool playlist and thought about the commonalities. A couple outliers on there serve me better for long session practice and I skip them in a match. But some themes... /4 beat, aurally awesome (my opinion of course)... mostly guitar centric but quite a few synth. Maybe 20% in the funk rap disco zone. Most 70s and 80s AOR. Some from 90s and more recent but few. Vast majority are my fave bands but I would say cuts that don't come up if you ask the general public to rattle of those artists well known ones. They all hit me at many levels and have what I would term a sublime quality. And here's the concept that just dawned on me... they all seem to have abbreviated or minimal bridge sections.
When I'm at the table my mind makes many many many calculations decisions and determinations. I'm a slow deliberate player. And my buds are at iPhone max. The music really gets the juice flowing in my brain. I work a coke/Pepsi and when permissible puff butts. All components that get me in the zone. I'm loathe to hit the supermarket with the family but dig going solo and playing the same list. On shuffle. I like the response of the Apple earbuds a lot. I've ruined a few sets leaving them in my pockets before the laundry cycle.
One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite bands, Garbage... What do you guys do in the dressing room before hitting the stage? (Very soft spoken) we listen to Radiohead. Very. Very. Loud. (I'm not fond of Radiohead per se but it affirmed that everyone who gets in the zone has a method and a preference. Whatever it takes to get to the next level of performance)
Zep, Crue, the Cars, the Cult, and Black Eyed Peas appear more than 4 times.
About to mow the lawn and collect leaves. With headphones on.
