Help me decide new case

Better made than either, and will last you longer. In your price range also.

John Barton may be an abrasive-type personality, but without a doubt makes the finest pool case interiors in the business. I personally would give these cases some serious consideration.

Measureman, I have the very case in your link, the Burgundy Elite 2x4. I really like all aspects of the design of the case, and it is a nice looking case. Pockets are ample sized (nice touch to add a cellphone pocket). Zippers are of decent quality. I like the fact that the butts store to the outside and the shafts nestle in between them. I've had mine for about seven years and it is still in like-new condition. I have no indication of any of the problems another poster had with his. The downside is, it's not a John Barton interior. The Elite case while padded, does not hold my cues as tightly as does my Sterling Wave case (which I love) with its JB interior.

If you have decided between the two cases in your OP and those two cases alone....then I will recommend the Burgundy Elite. I certainly have enjoyed having mine.

To be honest? ... I'd absolutely LOVE to have a nice 2x3 JB case .. but $600 is more than most of my cues.

I'd go for a JB Rugged for sure, they really are good casss. If that's too pricey then go with a Focus case that uses a JB interior. Personally I wouldn't use either of the ones you posted. For $200 the Rugged cases are money well spent in my experience.

(The Fields case I use has a JB designed interior)

I don't like either one
Go with something that has little better interior.
Especially for the times you venture outside with your "Mighty Lucasi"

I have a Rugged just sitting around, PM me if you want to buy or trade. It is flawless, just used for storage in the past

I'm not spending the money to get a JB.
Unless its used and under a $100.

Hard to find one used for that price. I do agree that the higher cost of the JB is more than some can or want to pay.

But it's offset by the fact that they have better protection from day one and forever, has a lifetime warranty which is rarely needed. (Porper has a lifetime warranty as well does BTW but you will likely need it more often), and has a much wider range of design options and features to choose from.

The year on year cost of owning a JB Case is often far less than it costs to own the el-cheapo brands.

All that said, I would buy the Porper on the left if these were my two choices. The Elite is indeed poorly made as someone else pointed out and not what I would ever recommend to anyone to carry their cues in knowing what I know of how both cases are built.

As I'm looking at a lot of on line sites for Porper cases I'm seeing a lot of discontinued and out of stock.
Is Porper not making cases anymore?

Cue cases

I haven't owned but one nice pool cue case in my life.
All the rest fell apart fairly quickly.

I bought a used Instroke Leather cue case 3x7 Heavy MF ....
Nice case, durable will outlast a dozen cheap cases ...and has value on the secondary
market , but as I said it is a heavy case .

Good luck .

This could become your favorite case....

Another vote for JB rugged. One additional note is that I don't think there is anything worse than embossed or stamped leather trying to look exotic. Fake croc/gator/ostrich/lizard is the worst. If I'm not going to have the real deal, some regular old bridle leather or aniline calf is fine with me. If I'm going to take it with me into pool rooms and bars then I want that JB nylon exterior and the best interior there is.

Castillo case's might be a good choice personally on the cheap I got a J&j case that suits my needs when I'm traveling light , unless your throw your case at a wall or going to run over it with your car protection inside the case is drastically over rated in 30 plus yrs of playing I've yet to be stuck by lightning nor had any of my cues been damaged in a case

I have noticed this with almost everything porper. I had a very hard time buying the porper travel case, and I am about 90% sure I found the last one online anywhere.

Does anyone know if they went out of business or something?

Muelller Sporting Goods bought Porper. I don't know if the production is still in California or was moved to Nebraska. Best bet is to check Mueller's site though for what the current models are.
