Just wondering how our friends in the PI and surrounding areas are doing following this 'superstorm'.

Please check in and let us know.

best,

Tap Tap. Good OP Brian.

Prayers out to our friends there. It's hard to fathom what's really going on there, but it sounds absolutely brutal.

The BBC News channel seems to be doing the best coverage of this disaster. The pics I just saw are not comforting, looks like the immediate area was flattened then flooded. Very, very sad....

Thanks for the prayers guys. We did not feel the typhoon here in Manila. It was Central Visayas province, Visayas Island, which was devastated by haiyan. Specifically the province of Tacloban, which, according to news, was almost completely flattenned by the typhoon. Bohol province, where the cute tarsiers come from and where the chocolate hills are, which experienced strong earthquakes few weeks ago, and was in the path of the storm, was miraculously spared.

I'm always amazed at how devastating these storms can be. Then they show you a satellite image of a ginormous front heading towards these teensy-weensy specs in the ocean. Kind of puts it in perspective.

Good to here the most populated city was spared the worst of it.

Right now, I'm waiting with bated breath on news from family members. Nobody has heard from my aunt yet.

The connectivity is down still in many parts of the country, preventing folks from finding out about loved ones and friends who survived.

We got good news from family members who were on Mindoro Island, San Jose, that they are okay though their home lost its roof and was flooded (total loss).

But they are okay. :)

Hoping your aunt is good, also.

Would like for some other az members there to check in and let us know what's going on, though, as JAM has pointed out, that's not gonna be possible for many just yet.

best,
brian kc

Thanks Brian. My dad's eldest sister moved back to the PI after decades living in Atlanta. She lives in Tacloban where most of her kids were born prior to their move to the States. Tacloban is an absolute disaster at this point.

My other aunt (my mother's sister and my godmother) was in the area as well, but she got herself to Davao prior to landfall. She is safe.

I hope you hear soon. The connectivity is probably going through difficulties right now. Everybody is probably trying to find out information at the same time.

Praying for good news soon to reach you today.

Hoping for the best, Fred. Sorry you must endure this trying moment in your life.

Had the the USA kept Clark AFB, and Subic USN Base in the islands, the U.S. Military, and all it resource would be their helping alreadt with rescue, and rebuilding..... IMHO.
