Highest number of balls owed?

I'm watching some of the DCC One Pocket matches on YouTube and it got me wondering...what's the highest number of balls you've seen owed during a One Pocket tournament? And did the player owing those balls ever win that game?

No idea in a tournament, but I have seen Cliff with nearly ten coins on the rail a number of times. When Grady played Roadman, the game was 20-10 and they had to spot 14 balls. I have no clue in tournament play.

I used to spot a guy 24-7, all the breaks, and my fouls count as 2 fouls..

Fun game... :)

I started off every game owing 15 balls, so I basically put a penny on the corresponding diamond and moved it around as I spotted balls.

I don't like putting one penny for each ball owed.. It always seems like my opponent "loses" pennies here and there, and all of a sudden, they don't owe as many.

Using the rails for the fouls is much more accurate and easier to count.

There is an old Accu-Stats video of Cliff Joyner playing Jose Parica or Rafael Martinez where Cliff needs 16 and his opponent only needs 1. Cliff comes back to win the match. I think it was Parica but I am not 100% sure.

Frost vs Schmidt.... at one point Frost had ten pennies on the rail. Score was John +5 to Frost -10...the game is on youtube. Scott finally paid all the balls owed and at one point the score was tied. There were more fouls than this...I think Scott took at least 15 intentional fouls and John had around 6 or 7. Scott made an error and lost....he talks about that game on one of his videos.

I’m pretty sure Nick Varner has the record in an even up match.
I can’t remember what the figure was but it was mentioned here years ago..
...anybody know?

Scott frost- 8 fouls-
against john schmidt-
is on youtube-
scott lost the game 8-7
took about 1 1/2 nours"

I know Nick spotted a guy 50-5 once in a action match lol

I've never seen more than eight owed and it was by Grady Matthews in about 1996.

In 14.1, I've seen Tony Robles go into the minus 50's against Allen Hopkins in 1999. Tony took an intentional third foul three times in that match.

I know very little about One Pocket, but understand the concept of owing balls. Can you explain the "50-5" reference you made? What is the 50 and what is the 5?

Thanks!
Nick Varner once played a one pocket gambling match and gave the guy he was playing a huge handicap.

He had to make 50 balls in his pocket before his opponent makes 5.

I think I remember him owing 18.

I can't imagine.

I watched this match last night. It's pretty ridiculous, but definitely worth the watch. The funny thing is that it's a race to 3 and the first 4 games only take about 35 minutes combined. The rest of the almost 2 hour video is only the last game of the set. The other peculiar thing is that all of the balls are clustered below the foot spot without being makeable. That's kind of an usual happening which probably lead to the weird game with all the fouls.

great match

To keep the game from going too long we play 3 fouls in a row you lose.
this is for cheap stakes.
high stakes make your own rules.

Nick starts out owing 39 balls. Need to do some creative coin counting!

I think one pocket can be a great game. I've barely ever played it but I can enjoy watching it and can learn some things that help my game from time to time, but some things about it are absurd and ridiculous- such as some of the scenarios mentioned in this thread. :boring2::boring:
