Home room, carpet or hardwood?

Carpet NO pad, padding carpet is terrible. It makes your legs tired after a few hours and when you set up the table it tends to settle sometimes, on a freinds GC5 he had the slates put on it for 2 weeks before it settled down good enough to stay pefect. Indoor/outdoor carpet no pad is perfect. I have set up alot of rooms and that is fine, I did have one room with wood floors and i put a Persian rug under the table it was thin and made of wool, that works good too but is expensive the rug was 2X the price of the table.

My floor is tiled- since there is a "no shoes in the house" rule in effect and play is done barefoot, I quite like it.

I have carpet in my room with no problems yet. This is the third house that I set the table on carpet in.

painted concrete, when you bounce a ball off it bounces back up and you dont have to bend over to pick it up. :D

This response does not surprise me. I'm just starting to put togeather my room, accually, I'm running out of time, Glen's getting pretty close with my Pro Am. Right now the room has oak hardwood floors. I too think I'd prefer carpet. I don't have the time nor the desire to carpet the whole room so I'm thinking of an area rug. It's a 7' Pro Am, appr. 54" by 94". Would anyone care to guess what size area rug I'd need. 3 foot extending out from all edges I'd think? Rich

about 3' is right on all sides, however a bit more on the ends looks better

I used a commercial grade carpet with thin padding. I set my table in place and let is settle for about a month before it was set up by Ernesto. It rolls perfect a year later.

how is it on your legs? thats the most important thing to me. I was gonna go with padding but after what fatboy posted im thinkin twice.

I went with this cheap/thin carpet from Home Depot... no pad. It works great and goes well with my 9-foot Pro Am w/tourn. blue cloth.

We used cheap, tan "carpet" with no padding in our basement. It's hard for me to call it carpet...it's only one step up from outdoor carpet. It keeps your feet warner in the winter than tile would. I can play barefoot year 'round.

For some reason it looks more gray than tan in this photo.

Commercial grade carpet with thin padding. Very easy on feet and legs, with or without shoes.

I ripped up the carpet in my entire house, patched the slab as needed, and stained the concrete green, just like the simonis baby! I LOVE the smell of green concrete in the morning. It smells like VICTORY!:D

I have played as long as 6 or so hours and the legs feel great. Its my head that starts hurting from those damn 4" pockets!!

Here's a pic:

I don't remember exactly what Erics point was, but if it was that thick carpet and pad would be TOO thick, then I agree with him.

That's exactly why I went with the thinner pad and carpet. A friend of mine has thicker carpet and pad and I think its harder on my legs after many hours. Maybe its just me??

Post up pics when you're done!!

I have indoor-outdoor carpet in my basement but I've cutout a place for my table & tiled there so there is no chance of the table settling.

Oak is great! I bet if you asked Glen he would say no carpet. In my area you can get hardwood refinished for less than 2 bucks a square foot. Carpet costs 3.50 per SF. Oak is a pretty hard wood and the finishes that are available are real hard. I am also a Realtor and will tell you that if you sold your house the buyers are going to be asking, "what is under the carpet?", they all want hardwood so it will help your resale value. If you put down an area rug the sun will fade some parts but not under the rug so you aren't trying to protect anything when you put down and area rug. I have Birch and just wear slippers because I have a no shoes house anyway, check my avatar.
