Hotel Suggestions for Vegas???? HELP

i'm a frequent traveller to vegas and I know that town, so take this from me...

If you want to stay at an affordable hotel on the strip, Treasure Island (Ti) is the best place to stay and I don't think it's even close IMO.

It is in a prime location on the strip next to the best hotels (Caesar's, Wynn, Bellagio, Venetian), they have recently remodeled their rooms which are pretty nice. It's also next to the big mall on the strip which has lots of good dining options that are a bit more affordable (Fast food, CPK, Maggiano's, etc.)

If you want to go cheaper, then I have no help for you because I haven't stayed at anything lower than TI. Stratosphere rooms were quite nice, but it is so far away from everything else that it is not worth it in my opinion.

If you want to up the stakes a bit, the Encore and Wynn were doing some really really sweet deals on rooms (relatively). If you don't eat or gamble there it is worth the price in my opinion because the hotels are beautiful and the rooms are the best in Vegas.

Honestly if possible I would say STAY DOWNTOWN as the Circus is El CRAPO IMHO. Or to be Blunt it is a DUMP!

I dont go to the BCA thing because Im not a league guy, but I do love Vegas and ALWAYS stay at either the Flamingo or the LUXOR. Cab it to the tournament...

When it came to our attention about this thread at the CSI / BCAPL office, a senior member of the staff immediately called the Riviera (800) 634-6753. He received a short pleasant recording. A reservationist answered and addressed his questions in a concise and professional manner. They were not aware that he worked with the BCAPL but thought he was a player interested in room rates and availability. He was quoted the player rate and informed rooms were available.

We understand the room rate war is hot and heavy in Las Vegas. Please remember the Riviera has been highly supportive of pool and has offered reasonable and consistant rates in the years prior to the economic downturn. When other hotels were still charging 3x - 4x times what they find themselves charging now, the Riviera did not gouge the pool players who came through their doors. The Riv rates were $79 when the other hotels mentioned were much higher.

The Riviera DONATES 150,000 sf of convention space, which is required to host an event such as the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships. There are very few facilities in Las Vegas large enough to host an event of this size.

The Rio (163,000 sf)
The Mirage (171,000 sf)
Bally's Las Vegas (175,000 sf)
Caesar's Palace (190,700 sf)
Wynn (200,000 sf)
Las Vegas Hilton (200,000)
Bellagio (200,000 sf)
The Palazzo Resort (510,008 sf)
The Venetian (510,008 sf)
MGM Grand (594,000 sf)
Mandalay Bay with a wopping (1,663,697 sf)

In the past we've approached other venues and the costs were prohibitive as they charged for all that ballroom space and setup costs. The Riviera does not charge us for the space for 10 full days. I understand having to watch budgets in the current economy. We live it everyday too, but if collectively we don't support those organizations that generously support the pool industry we may find they will lbe ess inclined to continue their support.

That is true, but in return The Riviera get how many people walking threw their Casino, and how many of those drop a few bucks in The Riviera's Slots or Table GAMES???? Me personally I am in the RED at The Riviera SLOTS! So I guess I contributed to The Riviera DONATING. SUPPORTING POOL.........................................

Right now in Vegas if you can not find a helluva bargain then you just are not looking. The place is begging for business. The Coast casinos are giving great offers.
My buddy just went over for a wedding and needed a room. I told him to pick a couple places and just call asking for a great rate. He called told them he wanted to pay X amount for X number nights and said he wanted the best deal he could get.
He ended up at the New Orleans for something like 30 a night on the weekend. Vegas is hurting compared to year past.

The Riv may donate or give the space but they are not getting hurt by doing so in any way. I would guess its 7000 attendees for several days.

Going every year 2-3 times per year for pool I have befriended a couple dealers and a Floor manager. They have all said that the casino puts the screws to everyone with the machine payouts and the limits on the tables.

My trouble with the Riv has always been the rates. Its simply a pricing issue. Pool players like myself go somewhere and stay 5-10 days or more.
If the rates were close I would pay the difference but for less than half price I can stay just as nice or nicer and still have a choice to choose from.

I always preferred to stay at the place across the street from Circus Circus, diagonally across the intersection from the Riviera. It's a dive, but it's dirt cheap and well within walking distance. I can't remember the name.

Some of their people are probably a little rude right now, do to not knowing whether they will have a job much longer. Best of luck to you.

It's no excuse. Last year checking in to the Riv I had a guy doing the keys and whatnot telling me what a crappy town Las Vegas was and how he could not wait to move back to his old home town. He went on and on telling us how much Vegas sucked, as we are checking in to a room in that town for a vacation.

Then the elevator broke down and we had to wait litterly up to 10 minutes for it to arrive (ended up doing alot of stairs that year), then they attempted to charge us for a safe when noone in the room touched the thing. They close the pool at a unreasonable hour, often kicking the guests out for "private functions". Slots are where the Splash Bar once stood, supposedly atm there are 2 places in the food court open, all the others closed.

And I think I paid about $100 average per a night for that "service". If the Riv is losing business and almost going bankrupt then treating the customers like crap is only going to assure that they continue in that direction instead of turning things around.

As for the question, I would stay at the Hilton long before staying at Circus Circus or the Sahara. Circus Circus is indeed phenomenally ugly, and they will charge you for EVERYTHING that they can as an extra, I speak from experience. The Sahara last year really turned me off walking through it, the layout is brutal and it is just plain ugly. The Hilton is actually a fairly nice, if plain looking Hotel/Casino and the walk from the Hilton to the pool playing area is the shortest of the bunch besides the Riv itself.

I myself am staying at the Flamingo during the BCA and just renting a car which is about $100/week. Quick trip down the road behind the Riv for back and forth travel and from my room it is a step out of the hotel I am staying at to the heart of the strip and the Bellagio water show. Plus with the Ceasars Palace food court so near by I have a ton of extremely good and very cheap food options 5 minutes walk away that the Riv cannot touch within a mile in any direction.

I've stayed at the Hilton the last 3 years in a row for the BCA in May. Its an absolutely great hotel, easily my favorite. This year I'll be at Circus Circus because its extremely cheap. If you can afford the Hilton, I'd definitely recommend it.

What the heck is there, I think that is Circus Circus parking lot/RV parking and then straight on to a condo development. Unless you mean all the way to the Stratosphere which is the next major casino.

In between the condo development and Circus Circus is a little motel. It's right on the strip. Let me look it up. Give me a sec.

One thing that the Rivera doesn't want everyone too know is if you book under BCA you are charged more for the rooms than someone booking on-line, off the street, or players points. They do this to offset the cost of the convention center. I know this first hand since the first Nationals in 1990.

Correction

I should have said if you book under BCA, ACS, VNEA, or the dart tournament you will be charged more. The only breaks on the rooms were issued to the Pros to get them there at the same time, also a percentage of the added money goes to them.

You say this very matter of factly as if you know this to be true. Where did you get your info from?

If I'm not mistaken, the BCA rate is $85. Here is a screen shot of the regular rate during the BCA that I checked out less than 2 weeks ago. The regular rate, for the cheapest (one king bed) room is still more than the BCA and the prices just go up from here.

I have been going to the BCAPL Nationals every year since 1993 and have always stayed at the Riviera. For the last several years I have gotten a BIG break on the room rates based on my comp points for the amount of the light bill that I help pay. I recently called and was greeted by the worst personality I believe I have ever encountered and was told that there are no rooms available, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

You are probably not the kind of person who likes to complain or make a big deal out of things, but you should really let the management know of the treatment you received- if they are smart, they will do something for you (I own and operate a resort so I know what I'm talking about:wink:).

At the least, you would be doing them a favor by contacting them- an employee with a bad attitude like that can really cost a lot of business- I would want to know if it were my place.

...... also a percentage of the added money goes to them.

Just curious where you came by this information? Especially since the BCAPL has nothing to do with the actual running of the pro events. Match Room and Dragon Promotions does this.

Gone gone gone.....

La Concha is gone, along with most of the other places that were nearby. Making room for all the new, bigger resorts that were planned after the Wynn. And if you have a players card, or sign up for one and do any play, you get a lot cheaper rate than what is posted on the site. Just like the DCC at the Casino this year, players could get a discounted rate by saying they were coming for the tourney. But if you booked directly thru the Casino, the rate was quite a bit more. If you were already established with the Casino, you could get a decent rate, or comped.
I booked my room for 6 days at the Riv, total is a little over a $100 plus tax. I've been staying there for the last 14 years, except for the 1 time we tried a place with a kitchenette.

Like a previous poster said, if someone is rude to you, go speak to management. It's not Elementary school, you won't get in trouble for Tattling. Complain a little, after all, we are pool players. It comes natural to woof a little and stir things up.

I booked the Rivera in February as a non BCA and the rooms were $85, while everyone under the BCA was $105. Checked on-line last night the non-BCA is $69, so just look at the chart you presented is shows the hike in rates while the BCA is in town. The rates drop when we leave. The higher rate are the dates for teams. All they do is raise the rates and give the BCA a discount thats is still above the normal rate if the BCA is not in town. You be the judge.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to knock the Rivera business, just giving a little insight to the rates. Someone quoted earlier that the Rivers has done so much for the promotion of pool, no Casino does anything if it don't put money in their accounts. After the other Casino's seen the turn out they all place bids to get it moved to their Casino.

1990 was the first year in the Rivera and 1992-1995 was at the Shara, then back to the Rivera ever since.
