Hotel Suggestions for Vegas???? HELP

Cheaptickets.com quoted me round trip air from Albuquerque plus 5 nights at the Circus for $247. Or r-t air plus 5 nights at the Bellagio for $503. Hard to beat. Similar deals all over, but the Riv was still up there...
:p

My one time experience with Circus Circus is that it's a hell hole and I would never go back. If you get stuck in the rooms in the back it's quite a long walk, screaming kids, crappy beds and I never felt safe walking back there after dark. All they have is 120 lb rent-a-cops riding around on bicycles once in a while. One night I arrived at my building and had 3 guys run over and try to get in without a key. When I didn't open the door for them they started beating on the glass and screaming at me. I've been to LV quite a few times and CC is the worst I've ever experienced. The Hilton is close, relaxing and has a nice buffet without the long lines waiting and it's a reasonable short walk.

Last year we stayed at Sahara for APA nationals in Aug. It was about a 10 minute or less walk from Sahara to the Riv. It only cost $45 a night and the rooms were fine. This Year we are going back in Aug and since I booked so early the rooms were only $26 a night. I would stay at the Sahara or the Hilton only because they are both on the monorail so You can take that back into the strip somewhere at night or whatever you have planned besides pool.

I booked the Rivera in February as a non BCA and the rooms were $85, while everyone under the BCA was $105. Checked on-line last night the non-BCA is $69, so just look at the chart you presented is shows the hike in rates while the BCA is in town. The rates drop when we leave. The higher rate are the dates for teams. All they do is raise the rates and give the BCA a discount thats is still above the normal rate if the BCA is not in town. You be the judge.

When I did the search of the Riviera, I had also searched Circus Circus. I did notice the price increase during that time at the Riviera, but "CC" also had a price increase during that time. Hotels raise rates at certain times of the yr when they're most likely to get foot traffic. The BCA coincides with mothers day which could be one of the reasons.

"CC" has a special during April & May called the big top blow out which is why their prices are as cheap as they are. The following months (at the time) weren't as cheap as these two months.

Who knows, it could be as you say, or it could be the time of the yr in general. It's supposed to rain this wkend, maybe I'll spend a rainy day searching other hotels and see if their rates go up during those two weeks and back down afterwards, just to see. Here's the "CC" vs Riviera comparison I did last month.

As I quoted earlier I'm not trying to knock the Rivera! If you have ever been associated with tournaments promotions you have to guarantee so many rooms too secure the banquet room for the tournaments. This is how the Casino's and hotel recoup some of the money. Where ever the tournament is held it will be the same. I just think the Rivera has taken advantage of us in the past, but it will not change if we move. They will bend over backyards for a while the we will be in the same position.

I myself am staying at the Flamingo during the BCA and just renting a car which is about $100/week. .

I will be there for the VNEA and would really like to rent a car.

Please tell me where I can get one for $100 a week.

Have stayed at the Circus a few times. If you do get a room there, make sure it's in the main hotel, and not in the back 40.

Good luck.

BCAPL at the Riviera

The Riviera still has rooms availabel for most nights (I think). The rate is $85.00 per night (including the weekends) for up to 4 people.

I still think too many people are forgetting how much the Riviera has done for the pool industry over the years. When we took over the league in 2004, we contacted other facilities - they were at LEAST 50% higher. Few places have the ballroom space to hold the event.

If the pool players do not support the host hotel, then the hotel is liable to do fewer things for the host organization. Bottom line is that if our costs go up, the payouts will decrease or the costs will go up.

This thread has so much BAD info - some people make statements that have no factual basis - so please don't believe everything you read. I hope everyone has a good time in Vegas - and hope everyone wins a division (lol) - but do try to support those that support the industry.

PS - by the way - we are very close to 7,000 players. Last year we had 7,107. A total number of entries is over 10,000 or so.

The Hilton is a nice place to stay, I got a pretty nice room there for Nationals last year. However the down side is that damn walk to the back of the Riv where the tables are, jesus christ when it's hot and youve been drinking for 4 days you dont wanna do that walk very much.

Circus Circus is really close and the renovated rooms have flat panel tvs and comfy beds. The bathrooms are boring, but they have a good steak joint downstairs. They have the friendliest poker game in town, all fishes. Plus its close enough to take a nap here and there I promise you the Hilton although its close its not close enough to go there for a half hour and leave.

Hope it helps, stay at circus circus unless you want Benihanas then go to the Hilton. I;m big on the food and drink in the casinos i stay at haha.

I agree with the boss on this one. The Riv has supported our sport for many years!!!!! Even though there are nicer hotels on the strip, I choose to support the host who supports us.:)
I have stayed at the Riv for MANY years. And will keep on doing so.:) Good Luck in Vegas Everyone!!

I was out in March and if I remember correctly, this motel was being torn down at the time.

Bummer. The place was a dive, but you simply couldn't beat the price. The fact that it was right on the same intersection as Circus and the Riv, made it a no-brainer for me.

Sadly, I am not making BCA this year, but my hotel of choice is generally the Riv, just for the convenience factor.

I went out in March and stayed at the Riv since it was free. I really hope that they have made some improvements before the event. There were only 2 restaurants in the food court, La Salsa and KFC if I remember correctly. The rest were closed for remodel, but I never saw anyone working on it. The Italian restaurant has been permanently closed, which is very sad, because it was by far the best place to eat at the Riv. In talking with the dealers, they had laid off half the gaming staff in the few weeks prior to my visit, so many of the tables did not open while I was there. Getting a drink was even worse than I remember, even at the tables...since I don't drink alcohol really, I just started going to the ABC store and buying my own sodas, it was better than waiting a few hours for service.

On the up side though, they had installed a virtual BJ machine that have $2 limits. which I know will be packed during the whole event. The accomodations were very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. They have also switched to Bath & Body works for their soap and shampoo, which was a nice change from what they had before. Also, the maid service was very good the whole time we were there.
