how did these two get on the mosconi team

Any time theres a team involved, theres going to be added pressure. These guy's are not just playing for themselves but each other ,and representing the U.S.A. Theywill get it together.

I love all of the posts that state, "That guy plays like complete shit, NOT TRYING TO BASH ANYONE, but he is the worst player to ever pick up a cue.

I know right? What does this guy think it means when he says "can't shoot to save his life" and "scraping the bottom of the barrel"?

8reader, I don't mean this in a mean way, I'm not bashing you at all, but can you please sell your computer and then check into rehab?

Mike is in the top 3 in the usa and should be an automatic pick, Shuff on the other hand can play good pool but not mosconi cup pool and these short races expose flaws in your game.

It's not just who got lucky.............

This match is set up to be an opportunity for working class people to gamble and drink, not a test of pool players ability. Five short games tell you nothing about a player, only who got lucky.

Playing five short games, in an arena, filled with crazed fans hooting, hollering and chanting most of the match is a test for most players, especially when you are in the other team's arena.

This atmosphere and the "five, short games" creates pressure where there might not normally be pressure for many players.

Add to that, playing a format that is alien to most players, a FAST 30 second shot clock, cameras everywhere and you have a recipe for pressure.

ThisMosconi Cup atmosphere and the "five, short games" creates pressure where there might not normally be pressure for many players and it takes a lot more than luck to hold it together under these conditions.

There are many emotional highs and lows in mosconi cup pool you need to deal with. I remember almost snapping on a guy who cheered my wife's miss while playing in a pool league.

I will have to disagree with anyone who thinks this is merely a TV show, and not a real match. These guys are all playing their hearts out, with every game a battle. In a short match each game takes on added importance. One mistake can cost you the match, just as it did yesterday. This only adds more pressure every turn at the table. The winning team will be the one that handles the pressure the best.

Are these guys good? You're damn right they are!

Then we will agree to disagree Jay. Race to 5, 9 ball with gaffe rules is not my definition of pool. It is good TV though and thats what matters.

Based on your reasoning race to 1 sudden death 7 ball would be the most exciting pool ever on TV.

I'm glad Matchroom does the Cup every year and they do a fantastic job but it amuses me that people lose their minds every December over it and start throwing great players under the bus because they dont play 100% perfect.

Good TV equals good money. Many share your belief that this is not good pool. This belief is holding back the sport. This looks like the future of pool if it wishes to thrive. Or it can just flounder as it is now. Race to five brings on a possible sudden death on a single mistake. You missed? Boom next one!! And right away too!! Get that bum off the stage!! The spectator base that will bring the dollars and the TV likes this far more than a race to 13 with no shot clock and five minutes to get the balls racked with a silent gallery. Money talks and bullshit walks. Ask the players if getting paid like a professional is "real" to them. I bet you would have a long waiting list to play this format if the money and exposure was there. It doesn't get any more real than that. The bear is in a different tree than the one purists would like it to be up.

It cracks me up every year to read these type of threads.

Just for anyone who isn't keeping up:

The Mosconi Cup is not pool. It is a TV show. Saying someone is a great or terrible player based on how they play during the Mosconi Cup is quite simply dumber than a box of shit.

You should have quoted a few posts...

Because I swear to God they still won't be able to figure out who they are...

ps...did you get my message on FB?

Then why didnt sudden death 7 ball make everyone rich? It was very dramatic. It was on television for a few years. If the Mosconi Cup format is so awesome how come it is only done once a year?

I'm not hating on the Cup I'm just saying it amuses me that people get it confused for something else than what it really is.

By the way you would have a long waiting list to play 3 ball on a bumper pool table if the money was there.

To kick things up this years Mosconi Cup will be a race to zero. The lag will be a very important factor.

Shuff and Dechaine are probably slight favorites over Archer and Hatch. Favorites over Deuel and Earl.

The only US player they wouldn't be favored against is SVB.

Rodney is probably even.

I'm talking 9-ball tournaments like US Open and Derby City.

Am I wrong?

Dear The8Reader:

You said in your first statment:

fist day i watched the cup i was like " i know that guy from some were and i am more than sure he cant shoot to save his life..."

so not trying to bash them but, are we scrapping the bottom of the barrel for pool players for the cup or are they really good and just not showing it...

Without getting into your lack of personal proof reading.

Are you kidding? You're claiming you are not trying to to bash them?

Brandon is a personal friend of mine but I'm also a realist. If Brandon wasn't up to the task I wouldn't support his being there. The truth is, Brandon will give it all he has, and that is plenty. He is deserving of this opportunity.

There are many Americans who know what's what. They have faith. Maybe you should too.

I think you are WAY wrong. I might agree with you over Hatch but not even close over Archer and they would both say the same thing. Archer is a freaking monster still. I have both Shuff and Dechaine on my Facebook and both of them were talking about Archer yesterday and how much of a monster player he is and they still idolize him and wish they could be him. He is still teaching those kids things they never even thought of. I give Corey the advantage over Dechaine and Shuff also and with Earl it depends on which Earl you get on which day.

I could be wrong, but in most of the tournaments I've been to recently, it is Dechaine and Shuff making it into the final 4 consistently. Archer has not quite been finishing that high as of late. Corey has not finished high in any tournament I've been to in the past couple of years. I think he just hasn't been playing much. And of course Earl is the best player in the world about 50% of the time, but he hasn't made it too deep in tournaments recently.

I could be wrong, I don't keep track of every major tournament.

So let me see if I can understand your logic...You are putting 2 kids over Archer, correct? And you are putting SVB over all of them? Now, 99% of the time I am going to agree with SVB over all of them, but here is where I get a little lost with your logic...Didn't Archer hand SVB his ass in a TAR match? So you are saying those 2 kids who wouldn't gamble straight up with SVB are better than a guy who HAS AND WILL gamble with SVB straight up and beat him.
