Please don't tell me you want to teach me the Donky English Method... I don't want to have to refer to you as the Donkey Master...
Wow, I almost fell down.

You win, your right...
I won't continue this discussion with you because it is not what this thread is about
Patrick Johnson said:Were you trying to "win"? I wasn't. I was trying to explore a subject that somebody might be interested in hearing more than one side of. You're not expected to continue anything or even to tell me about it. Go in peace, brother - see you in another thread.
Threads always go in multiple directions. If you could limit each thread to the one narrow topic the OP wanted to talk about (good luck) the forum would be less rich and informative.

Jude Rosenstock said:... I have a picture in my head on how to get the cueball to react that way and you will too after you successfully hit it a few times.
"Punch" means you have to hit it a bit on the hard side and "overstroking" (the actual word I used) in this instance would mean hitting it too high and causing force-follow (the cue-ball is spinning forward faster than it is moving forward) which will cause the cueball to bend.
Patrick Johnson said:Actually I have hit it successfully a few times. I was asking if you mean something unusual by your terms "punch" and "overstroke".
So "punch" means hit it hard and "avoid overstroking" means use less than maximum follow. This shot is hit so full that I think you need quite a bit of both (unless the rails are pretty dirty and the spin really grabs). For instance, Earl hits it twice as hard as his student does in his first attempts (but makes it look like he's nonchalantin').

Actually, there's almost no follow at all.
Patrick Johnson said:It takes lots of side and quite a bit of follow on my table with newish Simonis (which does bring the CB near the opposite side pocket) - maximum side and some follow won't do it. I'm sure it depends a lot on the cloth condition.

Jude Rosenstock said:I played this shot a bunch of times tonight. Actually, there's almost no follow at all. It's about half a tip of follow, no more. It's the left spin that gets you around the table. If you hit it with a lot of follow, you'll get an entirely different reaction.
Seriously, this is NOT an easy shot. I set it up near straight and it's tough slamming a ball in the pocket with that much side spin. My friend is posting the vid tomorrow.
