How do you train?

Got a tourney coming up and want to be as ready as I can possibly be. How do you train and or practice.

Thanks in advance...

It's a pretty broad topic. :-)

My general advice is to identify your weaknesses and develop drills to eliminate them. This is easier to do with a coach, but is possible alone too.

Practice like you play. Play exactly the same game. If it is races to 9, play races to 9. being able to play your best requires focus for the duration.

I don't believe there is a practice routine that will make you play better than you do, in the short-term.

Move to Philly .... Get up in the morning and start running ..... Find a meat truck and start pounding away on the merchandise... Hey, it worked for Rocky

On a serious not as someone mentioned before, work on your weekest part of your game. Also if you can practice on the tables you will be playing on, or similar, that would help as well.

Good luck bud!

hit the weights

I like to hit the weights before a competition. Since the need is more for speed than strength I limit the weight to twelve ounces but I do a lot of reps, lots and lots of reps! If you feel the need for a little more weight consider glass bottles instead of cans.

As for practice and training on the pool table, just make sure your stroke is good and you are making easy and medium difficulty shots and getting shape. I don't want to struggle with anything for a few days before a competition and I won't try to learn anything new(major changes) for a week or more before a big competition. I just want my existing skills grooved in. I need confidence for my mental game too, that is why I'm not trying super low percentage shots. Right before a competition all I want to do is hit a few balls and loosen up, make sure I am hitting on all eight. Think about rallying in tennis before play. They aren't doing anything but hitting routine shots at half or three-quarter speed. I'm trying to do much the same on a pool table, just loosen up and get table speed and the cushions down.
